'ERT 911'
'Hey, I need help, my boss's truck got hit, we can't move the tractor'
'Okay, where are you?'
'Trulit Waste centre (dump) parking lot'
'Is the driver inside?'
'The pickup yeah, but the tractor is fine. hurry!, there's diesel on the ground'
'We're sending fire and EMS now'

*I hop into my Ford at the super 8. I turn on the lights and back out. I am able to pull out of the supper 8 and get on the main road to get ont the trulit interpass. I arrive at the on ramp and I am slowed by an old couple driving. I pull around them and continue to the station.

"COPA FF Jack Anders in enroute to the station, eta two minutes"

*as I pull into the parking lot I hear our tones drop requesting us. i throw the durango in park and jog into the station and suit up*
'Lt. I'll get the quick dry to soak up the disel when we get on scene'

*I park my Excursion as I radio COPA and jump out. I see the truck has is all ready as I jog to get in my turnouts. I pull up my coveralls and grab my jacket and helmet. I hope into the drivers seat and put my helmet on the dash.

'Ready when you are Lt.'

'Ok, only making my job easier.'
*I look over at Mitch as we pull out then at the map. I then look up and get my fingers on the airhorn hinging next to me. I pull it a few times to the beat of "Move" by Ludacris (crazy aint it).*
'That should make em move.'
*I smile wide and look around as we come up on intersections.*

(Pumper should arrive first, since it's a lot closer. It'll clean up the diesel, rescue you know, rescues)

*I quickly put on my gear and hop in the back seat.*

'I'm ready'

'Go ahead Jack'

As Lt. Floan gets in and tells me to go, I release the parking brake and put the truck in drive. I turn on the lights and siren as I pull onto the apron. Lt. Floan pulls the air horn and an opening is made. I quickly accelerate through traffic with the sirens blaring. Traffic sort of moves out of the way leaving me just enough room to move through. We come to a blocked intersection. Floan pulls the air horn as I move over to the other lanes and pass through. I continue on to the scene.

* i jumb in the truck and put my gear on as we go*
' Floan, ill grab the nozzle and stretch it and have it ready during extrication, if someone else wants to back me and someone grab the speedy dry for the diesel'

*I jump in the truck*

I will back you up, matthews.

*As we get to the next intersection which is the main road to the scene, we see P-11 slowly crossing through the intersection and we turn in behind them. I honk the horn twice to let them know we're behind them and we continue on.*

*I hear R1s horn as I pull up on scene and begin the drive down the entrance road to the dump. I shut off the siren and pull up at the main gate and drive through. I turn and make a shield with the truck should the diesel fuel catch. I put the truck in neutral and put on the parking brake. I engage the pump and put it in drive.

"Pump 11 on scene"

*I hope out and throw on my jacket and helmet as to th epump panel. I crak open the tank and get the water recirclating. I build up pressure so the line can be charged. I go and grab the LDH and drag it to a hydrent. I flush the hydrent and take my wrench and put on the connector for the hose. I pull the other end and hook it to the pump.

"P-11 engineer to P-11 suppression, water is ready."

'Hey lt. look at that ugly pumper in front of us.'
*I say as I hear the Q whine down*

*I see Casey and Tim grab the hoseline so I go get the speed dry.*

'You guys ready for me to put this down?'

'Haha, it's small compared to this. Alright Mitch, turn on the scene lights and after you get those chocks down, get the generator started and grab the combi tool. Moon, get some blocks behind both wheels of the pickup and make sure its shut off, pop the hood and get the rams.*
"Rescue 1 on scene with one confirmed entrapment. Medic unit, whats your ETA?"
*As we pull up, I jump out and go to the back of the truck getting the windshield cutters and a tarp. I walk over to the man inside of the truck still.*
'Sir, how you feeling in there?'
Fine. I have a little headache but that's it.
'Ok, We're going to get you out soon. We will have to put this tarp over you.'
*I look at P-11's crew.*
'Hey, I need one of you to get in this bed and open the window from the back to hold c-spine.'

'I can do it Hannahan.'

*I set the pumps to auto and jog over to the truck. I pull on my gloves and climb up over the tailgate and walk to the door. I take it and slide the window so it opens up and I can get my arms through. I hold the man's head and neck so it is stable.

'Alright.'
*I put my windshield cutters down on the ground and get the jump bag. I set it down and try to start checking vitals. I wave the light in his eyes a few times and then check his pulse with the aid of the scene lights behind me.*

"Scene command, what's the current sitauation here?"

* I step out of the truck and grab my cover, I walk over to Hannahan who is with the Victim. *

' John, do u need any help with him? '

" Pump-11 Command to Pump-11 Colwell, can we get another 2" line over to the opposite side of the truck where Matthews is. "

' Guys we should also get a quick C-Collan on him, I also need an ALS bag and drug kit. Casey can u grab those please, i'll also hang out here with the Victim and Jack. '

* I take my turnout coat off and try to squeeze into the area where Jack is. *

'Yeah, you take over medical.'
"Rescue 1 to COPA, confirmed entrapment of one victim. We're about to begin extrication soon. Any updates on that medic unit?"

"Sure Hannahan!"

I turn on the scene lights and run to the compartment where the chicks are, grab them out and put them under the truck's wheels. I then get the generator ready and started. I then get the combi tool, connect it and put it down ready.

"Everything is ready, whats next?"

*I grab some quick dry and throw it under the tractor to soak up the diesel then I throw a couple pads under the still leaking tank then I grab some cribbing and stack it under the truck to make sure it's stabilized and won't go anywhere.*

'Yo lt. were secured ready to extricate.'

* Casey brings over the als bag and drug kit, I look at anders who is still holing c-spine and I reach over to my right and grab a No Neck C-Collar. *

' Hey Jack i'll put this on, just keep holding his head until I get it on, then why dont u take a complete set of vitals. '

" Pump-11 Command to Rescue 1 Command, We are getting a set of vitals on the Patient, then go ahead with Extrication, Anders and I will be here with the Patient. BREAK Pump-11 command to Pump-11 Matthews, can you handle Exterior Suppression with Van Der water and Colwell while Jack andI handle the Patient. "

'Got it Lt.'

*After the collar is on I gentily grab the mans wrist to get a pulse. It is slightly elevated at 128 BPM. I also count to his breaths to get a respitory rate. I do a quick look over the man and begin to ask him a few questions.
'What is your name sir?'
'eehhhh dave'
'Do you know what day of the week it is Dave?'
'Monday?'
'Thats right, now do you know where you are?'
'In my truck? on the road?'
'Okay thanks for answering the questions for me Dave.'


HR= 128 BPM
RR= 19 BPM
Eyes= Normal
Skin= minor abrasions on the arms
Temp= 99.2 F
Other= possible concusion

'Got it Lt'

*I grab the 2" preconnect and head to the opposite side of the truck.*

(What's RR?)
'Alright lets get started. Mitch, get the tarp over him and cut post A right here.'
*I point to the post right behind the windshield.*
'We'll try a dash roll but if that doesn't work, we could try something else.'
*I back up and get my windshield cutters. I then go to the front windsheild and start cutting as I try to stay out of Mitch's way at the same time. I cut half of the windhield out and carefully take it out. I then pt it on the ground off to the side so noone can hurt themselves on it. I then put my w-cutter down and go tot he truck and grab the irons. I go back over to the truck and use the irons to pop open the hood.*
'Yeah, you're clear to go Mitch.'

(respiration rate)

" Yea lt, we'll be fine"
* I leave my airpack straps loose and hold the hose in my hand watching the extrication take place*
' was someone grabbing the speedy dry?'

* I watch as the windshield is carefully removed and expose a little more fresh air for us to breathe. *

' Almost there Dave just one last thing to cut and we're out of here. '

" Pump-11 command to rescue 1, can we get a Backboard ready. "

*I look at Floan and give a thumbs up and for the dispatchers, I speak into the mic anyway.*
"10-4."
*I go over to the pumper, open the side compartment and pull the backboard out. I slam the compartment door shut and put it down next to the truck.*

*As the Rescue team preps for extrication I crawl in through the back window and quickly reposition myself over the center console to for a shield for the victim.

'Dave, the Rescue team is going to cut the final support, then we can get you out of here. We are forming a shield to prevent the debris from injuring you more.'

*Dave attempts to shake his head but the brace stops it. So instead he raises an arm with streaks of blood and gives a thumbs up.

'Alright. Where's that damn medic?'
*I get the straps ready and move around the truck looking around at what everyone is doing. I then go over to the man again and check his pupils again.*
'Alright, Dave, it looks like you're doing fine. You should be out in a jiffy K?'
*Just then, a small flicker appears out of the engine block and a small fire sprouts. The small fire quickly spreads and small bits of fire starts to ride out of the engine block.*
'WOAH, let's get him outta there!'
"Rescue 1 to COPA, we have a small engine fire started in the engine block."
*As I help Mitch start with the opening of the cutters, I inform Moon to start up the rams.*
'You got it Mitch? Good, Moon just start rolling this dash now. Floan, Imma need one of your guys to help me out with this. Get them to open this hood up more. I can't do it myself.'
*I see the man moaning in pain oblivious still to the fact that his car is burning due to the tarp over his face. I run over to the truck and get my B.A. on. I then run back over and get the line on the ground picking it up. I

I continue to cut the car as quickly as I can.

"Nearly done guys! Get ready."

* I brace myself for when the top of the truck can be moved and we can get the man out of the truck and away from the fire. I can really feel the heat by my boots as the fire nears.

'Dave it won't be long now'
.... no response

'Dave?'

*I take a closer look and see dave is out cold. I check for a pulse there is still a pulse and breathing is fine. The screaching and popingof buckeling metal is covers the sound of the ambulances siren as it nears.

" Pump-11 Command to Colwell and Matthews, get on tghat fire u guys, Myself, Jack n patient are still inside, dot let it spread. "

* I look at anders and give him Oh S--T faceas i can feelringto get a little hot. *

' Well this probably wont go downa s my best moves, coming in here to assist you lol. '

* I chuckle as the metal starts to break and crumple around us. I look up at Hannahan who is assisting. *

' John, our man is out cold and its getting aweful hot in here how long b4 this is off?. '

' we got it lt'
* john and i strap our masks on and flow air and drag the line over*
* i open the nozzle and aggresively fight the fire*
' someone get a halligan in there and pop it!'

( im gonna try to extend this part so john and i have something to do rather than babysitting the hose)

'I don't know. Maybe four or five depending on how fast we go. You almost done Mitch?'
*I bend down getting the irons I put next to the car earlier and I start pounding the halligan in the hood trying to pry it open.*
'Godammit, c'mon open!'

* as hannahan slams the hood, fire peaks up around the corners and i take the hose and put it over my sholder and jam the nozzle righ down near the creases*
' colwell, i got the line, help hannahan with getting the hood up, we cant let it spread to the cab'

'yea John u might wanna hurry, he has passed out here. '

* I look at Tim and Colwell coming towards us. Tim goes to help Hannahan and Colwell starts to get readyt o spray. *

' HEY GUYS WATCH THE STEAM NOW TOO THAT WILL HURT LIKE A B--CH '

* I yell from under the tarp. *

( i actually have the line, colwell assisting hannahan, but nbd)
* we finally get the hood up and i finish soaking the engine*
" suppression to all units, fire appears to be out, we'll be overhauling the engine momentairly"

*I can feel the heat die as it is put out. I check on Dave, he is still breathing but still unconscious. I think to myself that now might be a good time to get this over with and start working on the man we are now schielding. I can feel my knees starting to hurt also.

'Floan you still alright from all that?'

* I look up at Jack after its over. *

' yea im good just hot as hell in here. Lets do another set of vitals on him. HANNAHAN, HOW MUCH LONGER. '

*I look at Dave who is still unconscious. I carfully feel his wrist with my index and middle finger and feel for a pulse, it has gone down to about 89. I listen and count his breaths, they are very few only about 9 over the course of a minute. I look at Lt. Floan with a concerned look on my face.

HR= 89 BPM
RR= 9 BPM
Skin= bleeding from cuts has ceases
Eyes= NA
Other= Victim is unconscious and cuts on arms run the possiblity of becoming infected.

*As floan asks, the A beam pops and I place the rams under the seat. I then start it up and move the hydraulic rod forward and it slowly but surely moves the dash forward.*
'Hey Anders, you got a jump bag near you? Can you start an IV? It's gonna have to be done anyway.'
*I back up and start pushing the dash up a bit with my hands too.*
'His leg is almost free.'

*I look at Hannahan and and nod yes.

'I do and can, but I think we should wait until we get him on a back board and a litte more stable.'

*I can feel the cab shifting as the dash moves further to front of the truck.

((g2g for a bit be on tomorrow morning))

' I got it Jack just hold him as steady as possible. Hannahan, Stop working for a second I need to start this IV. '

* I grab a bag of Ringers, Insert the needle and begin the flow at TKO. I also reach for a set of 4x4's that have been placed at the bottom of the bag for some unknown reason. I reach deep into the bag and grab the set of 4x4's I pull out my arm and slice it WIDE open on a piece of metal on the dash. *

' Ahh come on dammit, this sucks. '

* The wound on my upper arm bleeds and bleeds. I ignore it for the most part and put the 4x4's on the victims cuts, tape them up and then tend to my arm. *

' Hey Hannahan. I cut the hell out of my arm over here. now ur gonna have to hurry this is bleeding constantly. the patient is stable and IV is inserted. lets just get him out please. '

*I use the halligan bar to check the truck for more fire*

"Looks good!"

(Sorry it took so long. Been working everyday)

'Alright.'
*I move the backboard closer and I jump into the bed of the truck taking over C-spine*
'Alright, his legs are free, let's get him outta here. Move him to the side on three. I'll count off. 1..2..3.'

*I help Floan and Hannahan pick Dave up slightly and slide him to the side. Next we pick him up and lift him to the backboard and place him on it. He lies down and I strap up his legs. His head is held still with the C-collar that is still around his neck.

'Lt. Floan get that wound taken care of, the last thing we need is to mix some blood.'

* I think to myself that this is the last time the Lt. will ever help me.

*I as I wait for the medic unit I go through a more thorogh examination. I check his lower body as I could not before. The only thing that is wrong that is visible to me is a broken Femer on his right leg.
