"Standby COPA."
*I kneel down next to the victim, laying on the ground about 10 yards from the accident. I open up the jumpbag*
Me: 'Hey man, I'm Doug with ERT-Fire/EMS. How are you feeling?'
Vic: 'My neck really hurts. I wasn't wearing my seat belt, I went forward, then the airbag came out and just shot me back into my seat, and that really hurt my neck.'
'Alright, one second please.'
((COPA))
"RA-1 to COPA, victim is conscious and alert, reporting neck pain."
'Alright, now is this a sharp pain or an aching pain.'
'It aches, but it's a really sharp pain when I try to move.'
'Alright, try not to move it, you might injure yourself more.'
*I turn to the bystander who was giving assistance*
'Sir, are you first aid certified?'
'Yeah I am, I got this guy out.'
'Alright, could you do me a favor and hold his neck and immobilize it will I go get a backboard and collar?'
'Sure.'
*The man kneels down and hold the victims head and neck. I observe for a moment to make sure he is doing it correctly, then I stand up, and go get a backboard and collar from RA-1*
1 Victim Accounted For
1 Victim trapped
(I remembered the victim count rule!)
