Smoke Explosion SAR

*911 alert*
"ERT, 911, state your emergency"
*cough cough*"Help, Riteway research on Hanlon street, smoke explosion, we've got an experiment underway, a pipe burst, it's filling the area, 15 men are trapped inside!"
"Okay, has the pipe been shut down?"
"No, we have to shut it down remotely, they're doing that now, but the smoke will keep pumping for at least an hour. Help us"
"I'm sending firefighters now. What's your name?"
"Andrew Slaney, I'm the manager of research, I've got a white helmet on, I'll be waiting for you guys"
I enter all this info into the EAT

*Dispatches through EAT the alerts*

*i hear the call and run to the ladder and get my gear on and climb into the officers seat and look as my crew is getting in and mike starts us twords the fire, as we pull out of the fire house i flip the siren to the yelp and stomp on the Q and air horn.*
"Ladder 1s responding"

*I hear the tones drop and get in the RA. I grab the EAT and mark en route. I hit the light and sirens as I follow Ladder 1 out of the station.*

"RA1 to COPA do we have any details on what is being released? And is there an MSDS availible for the treatment protocols of the substance?"

(remember, one liners I will hurt you over... And Detail detail detail... Oh and of course, do victim count.)

* Jack starts the Engine and turns the Lights on, we slowly start out of the station and when we hit traffic I turn the Siren on. *

" COPA, Pump-11 responding. "

* The Engine starts weaving through traffic and I put my nomex on and slip around my neck, i put my cover on and continue to listen to the radio traffic on my headset. *

" Pump-11 to ladder 1 we are en route approx 2 minutes behind you. "

*I slide down the pole and jump into my bunker gear. I climb into the drivers seat and start up the truck. I see the others climb on and start driving. As we get to the street the siren winds up and I hit the air horn hard. I take a left on to the street and floor it.*

*I hear the tones dorp and run out into the bay and put my gear on. I then climb into the ladder*

'Smoke explosion...this is gonna be a fun one haha.'

*I jokingly say as we pull out of hte bay*

* I get up from the table and leave my pasta sitting there and run out to the bays and notice it's just me and floan so far and i throw my bunkers on then my nomex and then throw my coat over and button it up. i climb into the truck and start putting my scba straps on*
' LT: what are our orders?'

"SEV to OSC, I'm on standby"
*I walk over and get the SEV ready*

* as the Engine rounds a corner I see another Accident happen in front of us as 1 car moves out of the way it hits another car sending it off the road and into a bus stop bench. *

" COPA, Pump-11 we have just passed a TC involving 2 cars corner of Southside and French. "

' Casey lets pull 1 2" line and hold outside the building, Jack can you grab the TIC and go with Tim and I, Tim can we get 1 large blower fan and set up a vent system then you, jack and I are gonna be doing Evac after Evac '

"SEV to COPA, can I go over there and help out?"

'Got it LT.'

I pull the pump up behind the ladder. I jump out and grab my jacket throwing it on. Next I go get my SCBA and helmet. By the time I am ready the 2" line has been pulled. I grab my TIC and find Lt. Floan.

*I drive the ladder around the corner and I see thick black smoke roling out from the doors. I pull up to the scene and set the dirictional bar on the back to have trafic pull to the left. I jump off of the truck and grab an air pack and start tightning down the straps.*

"Standby for initial evaluation SEV"

" Pump-11 On Scene. "

* I take my headset off, put my turnout coat on, Grab a flood Flashlight and clip it to my belt. I walk over to Bruce, shake his hand and wait for an assignment. *

' Hey Bruce, where do u need us?. '

" Pump-11 Command to Pump-11 Anders, Can you and Tim help casey get a line out. Until I know where we are being assigned I dont want to go in yet. "

"EMS-1 is out.*

*I pull on scene, idle the ambulance, and go around back. I take out the jumpbag, open it up, and get the oxygen tank out. I close the jumpbag, and ge tthe EKG out.*

"RA1 on the scene est. triage area at RA1, ready for patients."
*I get out of the truc and head in to the back. I load the Airway and drug box on the cot, followed by the EKG and Suction unit. I roll them off of the truck and head over to the area indicated for triage. I go back to the truck and grab the SMART Triage kit. I lay down the tarps.*
'Doug, you guys want to take care of treatment and transport?'

"10-4 recieve COPA."

' k LT'
* i get out of the pumper when it is just barely rolling and it stops and i grab a tic ( im making us a rich dept and we have tics in the back too, our city dept has like 4 tics in the truck) and leave my mask off, help pull the line then join up with floan and wait by his side*

'Hey Lt. What do you want me to do?'

' colwell help me grab the ram fan, were gonna bring it out towards the entrance way for now'
(Do we have a generator on eother the ladder or the pumper with the cord reels we coulld stretch out for the fan?)

'Ok Tim.'
*I run over to Tim to help him with the vent fan.*

(I would think that both of them have one)

*John and i grab the fan and we lead it over near the entrance way and i can see some light smoke coming from the creases of the door way and i walk back and grab the cord reel off of the pumper and stratch it out and lay the end of it next to the fan*

*I adjust the straps of my SCBA while standing-by awaiting orders on what to do next.*
'This could be a bad deal if those people breathe in to much of that smoke.'

*I walk back over with the rest of my crew that i see standing together and i take my helmet off and pull my nomex up a bit seeing the smoke and knowing this isnt a false alarm*

" Pump-11 Command to Matthews, Until we know for sure lets definatly set up an exhaust with thr ram fan at the front exit. Have Colwell help you with that, also lets start assisting the people that are coming out of the building and get them over to the RA and EMS units. "

' Bruce Would you like us to start doing an internal Evac? '

(woohoo My computers fully up and running now. )
*I jump out of the Ladder and walk over to Jess waiting for Bruce's orders*

(If beard isn't on by midnight my time, I'll post the command to Jess Forsyth who will do this call)

" Alright 11 command"
* I walk over to the ram fan and i open the door to the building and a lady comes stumbling out*
Me: ' are you ok ma'am?'

Lady: *cough cough* 'yea im alright, i breathed in some of that crap though'

Me: 'ok ma'am do you know what that stuff is in there and how many people'

Lady:' what do you think im a scientist?? and i dont know, i just ran out as soon as it burst but this door was locked'

Me:' Alright ma'am im going to have this firefighter bring you over to our triage center and they will check you out'

"Matthews to colwell: got one heading over to you, bring her to triage, should be a green"

* I take a chauk out of my helmet and prop the door open and set the ram fan in the door way but little ways out so people can still enter and leave*

( 1 victim, lady mid 40's to triage, poss inhalation, should be green)

" Pump-11 Command to Pump-11 Matthews, Colwell and Anders, lets head on in and start evacuating people. BREAK Pump-11 to OSC we are going in to start evacuating personell from the building. "

* I put my mask on and pull my Nomex over the top of that, I grab a halligan just in case and lead my men on in, the smoke is everywhere, it is impossible to see more than 2-3 feet in front of me and my floodlight is all but useleff as it just shines the smoke back in my face. *

' Tim, take jack and do a search to the right I have no idea what rooms are over there but find whoever you can and bring them out, I'll take this way with John. Stay in contact with me through the radio and keep track of your air. '

* I continue forward with Colwell, the Smoke is all but blinding now and I have no idea where I am or where we are in reference to anything in the building, I bump into boxes along the way through knocking them over. *

' John if you see ANYTHING point it out, im blind over here, i cant see anything around me. '

" Pump-11 to OSC any idea of what we are dealing with here? BREAK Pump-11 to RA-1 can we start loading you guys with patients when we find them? I still have no idea however what we are dealing with in here but the smoke has a strange tint to it. "

* I turn my pack on and ask the LT before we enter*
' Lt. the smoke looks real thick in there...what if we each take a long piece of rope, i think we have a few 300' lengths in there, and if we tie one end to our pack somewhere and leave the other end attached to the hand rail on the truck or under something heavy out here, or have someone tend it..that way when we find a victim or have to get out we can turn around and the rope will be lying there and we can follow it like a trail of crumbs'
* I walk over to the truck and start getting a couple bundles of rope out and begin to tie one end around my bottle on my pack*

*I tap the Lt. on the shoulder every now and then to let him know I'm still here. As I'm walking through the room, I trip over something. As I'm on my knees I see that I tripped over someone. I take my glove off and feel for a pulse*

'Hey Lt. I got one here, but there is no pulse.'

* I take my glove off and feel for a Pulse but again there is none. I check her Carotid and her Brachial and nothing is felt. *

" Pump-11 to RA-1 we have 1 female here approx age 25 but No pulse on her, we are bringing her out now please stand by. "

' John, I'll grab her. get us out of here. u lead the way. '

" Pump-11 Command to Matthews, Colwell and I have 1 patient we are bringing out now. We'll come back in when we have dropped her off. "

"RA1 to P11 Take her to the black tarp. RA1 to COPA we have 1 vic found, Black tagged."

*I standby at the RA, waiting for Floan to come over.*

*I work my way back down the hallway to the exit.*

'Hey Lt. I'm going to go get some rope from the truck to tie off with.'

*I run over to the pumper and grab a 300 ft section of rope and tie it off on the front door hand rails.*

* I take the victim over to the Black tarp and gently lay her down. I take my mask off and sit down for a second almost out of breath. My tank reads 1/4 full so I shut it down and take my pack off. *

' JOHN, WHEN U COME BACK CAN U GRAB ME AN EXTRA BOTTLE PLEASE. '

* I yell at colwell as he is sprinting over to the Engine. I pick up my radio and call out to the rest of my crew inside still. *

" Pump-11 command to Anders or Matthews, Status report please. "

*I turn to Floan and give him a thumbs up.*

*I quickly change my bottle and grab a second bottle for Floan and the coil of rope and head over to the triage area where Floan is standing and swap out his bottle.*

'Your good to go now Lt.'

This will now be passed to Jess Forsyth for her exam call. She'll be OSC

*I look at the smoke coming out of the building and then look back at the crew*
'Chris and Jack I want you two to set up fans to vent the smoke. Bruce and Mike go start a search for victims'
"Ladder 1 Forsyth to Pumper 11 Floan whats your search teams status?"
'Chris when you and Jack are done setting up fans get in there and help search for vicitms'

" Pump-11 Command to Ladder 1 Forsyth, I have 2 men on interior search , Tim Matthews and Jack Anders. Myself and Colwell have just brought 1 black tag victim out and are preparing to go back inside, we have 1 fan venting now however several more are needed. "

* I grab my mask, put it back on and head back inside with colwell to search for more people. Immediatly we are met with another bout of huge thick smoke that is making it harder and harder to see until we are roughly 10 or so feet inside and we cannot see anything again. We start feeling our way around. *

*I stick close with Floan as we make our way through the building.*

'Man, I can't see a thing.'

*I turn on my helmet light but it doesn't do a thing.*

'Recieved Pumper 11 command"
*I grab a fan and start to help Chris and Jack set them up*

((sorry guys due to some family issues ive been a bit bussy))
*i grab mikes arm and we run twords the building once we get to the front door i drop down and mask up and crawl along till i find my first door.*
'alright mike breach it'

( guys, crazy weekend ahead of me, unbelieveable amount of homework..so i might not be as actice as usuaal)
(BTW, it should read 1 green tag, 1 black tag, colwell and i brought out a green tag as the first patient)
* I head inside with jack and we start to search the rooms but is impossible to see anything*
" 11 matthews to 11 floan: Jack and i are in the first room to the right if you enter the building going towards the delta side, we are along the alpha side of the building heading toward delta, we appear to be what is a break room"
* I find a table and flip it over making sure it doesnt hit jack and we continue on*

*I motion for Doug or Jamie to come over to the green tarp. I get a quick set of vitals. Pluse 130 weak, Respriation 26, Lungs clear bilaterally and over all fields, B/P 132/86, EKG shows sinus tachycardia. SpO2-92%*
'Hey Doug this ones green but a bit of smoke inhalation. Needs some O2 then can be released if she wants. Why don't you take her over to your rig, we'll use M1 for treatment, since the RA is triage.'
"RA1 to Command we have 1 green at treatment, 1 black, and 13 missing."

"Recieved RA-1"
*I say into the mic as I put the fan down and hook it up to the Ladders generator*

*I take my axe and breach the door*
'FIre Department can anyone hear me!?'
*I yell into the room and a lady yells back calling for help*

( no prob cory, just wanted to bold it so people would see it)
* As jack and i leave the break room back into the main hallway i run right into a womens knee and her knee hits my mask and turn its kinda sideways*
* i pull my mask back on straight and say both outloud and over the radio*
" ' command from 11 matthews, we have another victim, have ems at the door, aprrox 50 year old female appears passed out, does have a pulse though, we'll be bringing her out front, jack turn around and follow my line back ' "
* I turn around add see jack tracing over my rope line as we head back out of the building and i stand up hand the victim off to the awaiting ems crew and take my bottle off and replace it*
' Man, it so so smokey in there, i didnt even see her till i ran into her'

( 3 victs now, this one is probably yellow/red)

"RA1 recieved, I'll meet you at the door."
*I grab the cot with all of my equipment on it and head to the door to wait for Tim and Jack to come with the patient. I get the leads back out of the ekg and hook the stickers to them. I get out my B/P cuff, pluse ox and stethoscope so I am ready when the patient shows up.*
"RA1 to P11 matthews, I'm standing by at the door awaiting your arrival."

" Pump-11 Command copies Matthews continue your search once back inside and notify if assistance is needed. "

* John and I continue to walk inside the building as best as we can since there is NO visibility, Inthe background I hear a choking sound, I walk more briskly toward the sound still keeping my mask on so I can breathe, I come upon a Middle aged Lady who is on her knees with 1 hand on the ground and another over her mouth. I walk up to her and kneel beside her. *

' Ma'am lets get you some air. '

" Pump-11 to RA-1 We have another here, Middle aged female having difficulty breathing, we'll be heading your way momentairly. "

* I take my mask off and give it to her, the smoke Immediatly hits me and i find it hard to breathe myself. She takes aHUge breath and starts to cough into my mask ( Which I Hate ). *

' Miss, we need to share this so we can both get out of here, JOHN can you lead us out? '

* The lady and I start switching off on my mask as we begin to feel our way out. *
