    *Ring*
'911, ERT, please state your emergency'
*Cough Cough* 'We've got a lot of smoke here at Austin Trulit Subway terminal, my guys were downstairs working on the platform when smoke just filled the place. I've still got at least 17 men down there'
'Okay, sir, I'm sending Fire and EMS now. What's your name?'
'Bradley Turnpike, I'm the foreman for Phoxlind Transit Subways. I'll be by my service pickup, I'll have the ambers on'

*I pull up the squad near the tunnel and see the foreman's truck.*

    "Squad 1 onscene."

*I put the squad in park, get out, and walk over to the foreman.*

'Hello, I'm Chuck Davus from the ERTFD. I hear the tunnel's filled with smoke?'
'Yes, thanks for coming! Yeah it's all filled with smoke.'
    'So what happened?'
'I'm not sure, maybe the workers blew a line or something...they're still down there!'
'Yeah sir, I know. We'll get some men down there real soon. Any signs of fire?'
'Not that I know of...but I don't know. There weren't any visible signs though.'
'Ok thank you, we'll get ready and head down there soon.'

*I walk back to the truck.*

'Ok guys, we still have workers down there, heavy smoke, no signs of fire but someone get a TIC. Raven, what's the plan?'

*As I'm driving down the road with Taylor Swift blasting on the radio (Don't question it. How could anybody not like taylor swift and/or her music, lol). As I approach an intersection, I switch to the siren from 'Wail' to 'Yelp', as I approach the intersection, somebody speeds in then screeches to halt in the intersection when the spot me. I pull the air horn chain holding it for a few seconds, then releases it and continue through the intersection.*

*As I come down the road I see squad 4 behind me, i pull over and continue to let them pass me, then I pull back into traffic after they pass me. I approach the scene. I turn off the siren and slowly come to a stop in the middle of the road to pull into the parking lot. A minivan stops by the entrance. I hit the Electric horn for a sec and the person moves, I pull into the lot.*

"EMS-1 central, out at Austin Subway station."

*I step out, grabbing the chart. I open the rear doors, throw the chart on the stretcher, then put the jumpbag, and EKG on it*

*I hear the tones drop and run over to the RA. I grab my HRES gear and throw it on as I get in the Officer's sseat on the Ladder. I reach up and hit the enroute button as we pull out of the station.*
"Ladder 1 Command to Squad 1, Once you're on scene go ahead and start evacuating the tunnel, and send someone with the TIC to check for fire. Once we get on scene, we'll take over looking for fire so you can focus on Rescue and assisting doug with triage."
*I put on my head set for the in truck chatter.*
'Jess, when we get there you and Mike assist the squad with evacuation. Bruce I want you to stand by as RIT. Jack, grab the TIC, a can and the pike pole and head on in to help find the fire. Will I want you to set up a PPV fan at the bottom of the stairs but wait for my go to start it.'
"Ladder 1 Command to Medic 1, notify the location of triage and if you need any additional help."

"OSC copies S1 Jansen entering the subway."
*I reach up and grab Jansen's tag and move him over to interior team. I grab my mic so I can update COPA.*
"Subway OSC to COPA, we have 3 victim evacuated, 14 still missing. S1 and L1 Beard are performing SAR and evac, L1 Price and Lueckenbach are searching for fire, L1 J. Forsyth and M. Forsyth will be making entry for SAR and evac. S1 Jackson is assisting EMS with triage. M5 has triage command, M1 has EMS command, S1 Raven is designated Safety Officer, Unified Command has been est. No fire has been found to this point. I will keep you advised of scene status."
*I put my mic down and head over to the foreman.*
'Hello sir my name's Cory Hutchison, I'm with ERT FD, wath were your men working with down there?'

    Foreman
'They were suposed to be welding the utilities in place on the line so we could get this subway running again.'

*I look down and notice his hands figiting with his radio.*

    Me
'So do you have radio contact with any of your men?'

    Foreman
'I have with one of the groups. There should be 3 groups of 4 and 1 group of 5 down there.'

    Me
'Were they able to tell you where they are?'

    Foreman
'Yeah that group is traped by the smoke, on the 2 platform over, and they say they're getting really dizzy and have a raging headache.'

    Me
'Is there a gas line that runs through there?'

    Foreman
'No, but it has been cold down there so we brought in our own heater, but the D@m* thing shorted out on us.'

    Me
'Did you trn it off? and what type of heater was it?

    Foreman
'It was on of those that runs on that kerasine crap. No it shorted out so we moved it back from the line and brought a new one in.'

    Me
'Thanks for your help sir, why don't you go over with your crew, that we rescued. We'll handle this.'

*I reach down and grab my mic.*

"OSC to COPA, we have possible heater malfunction, causing CO to be leaked. BREAK to Interior teams, foreman reports that there is a shorrted out heater down there that is still pluged in and one that was working still running down there. We have possible CO exposures. Also, foreman has radio contact with one of the teams, they're trapped on 2 platform, one over from the one you came in on. He also reports that his crews are in 3 teams of 4 and 1 team of 5. BREAK to M1 and 5 did you copy traffic regarding CO leak?"
*I stand back and wait for everyone to acknowledge.*

    "Copy."
*We continue walking through the smoke and then I come upon one of the heaters and it is pouring out thick black smoke.*
"Ladder 1 Lueckenbach to command, we have found the source of the smoke and are attempting to shut it off at this time. It was one of the malfuncting heaters."

"Great. Get the other patient and bring him in, then triage and treat."

*I turn to the other man.*

"Sir, can I get your name?"

    "Jack Rodgers."

"Have you ever been to the ERT hospital before?"

    *He shakes his head.*

"Okay, please move over to the jumpseat, but keep the oxygen mask on."

*He complies while I jot his info down.*

"This is Davis, I'm heading back in."

*I head back into the think smoke and try to look for some more men. After a few minutes, I see a figure. I get closer and see a man lying down, barely able to breathe.*

'Sir, this is the fire dept. I'm gonna get you out of here, K?'

*I lift him up onto my shoulders and make my way out of the tunnel. After a few minutes, I get out and head towards the ambulance.*

'Hey guys, this one can barely breathe. Smoke inhalation and possible CO exposure.'

    (Yes, Monoxide.)

'On it Davis, just lay him down here.' I say to my fellow Squad member. 'Get some Oxygen for him if you can please.' I add, starting to take his vitals. '30 Respirations, laboured, 140/90 BP, Pulse 100.' I say, writing it down as I finish with the vitals.

As Davis brings the more heavily injured guy in, I hook up an O2 mask and open it full. I then radio the OSC.

"M5 to OSC, we're gonna either the MCI bus or additional units. BREAK. M5 to M1, can you take another?"

"Subway OSC to COPA, we have 6 victims total found, unknow as to their triage status. Requesting that you dispatch me a MCI bus to transport yellows and greens. BREAK to M1 can you update me on the triage status of all vics?" (Red, Yellow, Green, Black)

*I look over and see that EMS is getting busy. I grab my mic.*

"OSC to any availible paramedic, I need 1 medic to report to triage area for assisting BLS crew with triage."

*I see Jess grab the ALS bag and head over there. I move her tag over to triage. I see Mike go down and catch up with Bruce. I move Mike's tag to the Interior crew spot on the board.*

"OSC to all units, Medics can disregard, Forsyth is en route to triage. BREAK to Fire search team, has any hot spots been found? If not seal the tunnel off at the end of the platform, then start the PPV so that the smoke gets pushed out of the structure."

    *I wait for a response.*

'Alright, that's two more smoke inhalation.' I say, writing down on my notepad, 'Check for CO poisoning.' I add writing on the sheet. 'Be back in a minute.' I shout to the EMS guys as I run to grab a jump bag from the Squad to help out, and then head back even quicker. I get an Oxygen bottle and mask out, and open it for one of the men, he puts it on and I start to take his vitals.

'Respirations 20, slightly laboured, 150/90, Pulse 110.' I say out loud, also writing them down on the sheet. 'Ok, just stay here mate, keep breathing that and we'll get you sorted in a minute.'
