Arson Fire

" Matthews to copa, we've been here for 5 minutes and ive heard at least 1 explosion.command can confirm with more details"
* i drop the high rise pack back into the cab and remind myslef to take care of it after the call and grab a 3" line with the blitzfire on the end and quickly run it infront of the structure and charge the line and open up the blitzfire, even though it appears to be doing nothing*
' Floan, want me up on the deck gun? we can start dumping some water on the mid floors?'

* I look at the building. I think to myself I might not want my guys to go in. I get the blueprints from PFD.*

"IC to COPA, PFD has had a team enter the building and deemed they were unable to continue in due to the fire. We might want to make this an exterior operation."

"Botfish to OSC, Understood! I'm pulling back. BREAK Where do you want me?"
*I say going back to my truck*

*I climb up and crank open the deck gun, change it to a narrow stream, and spray it at the fire.* 'oh yeah, eat that!!

( o sorry, didnt see that, and jack already has a line to the hydrant, but im sure we will need 2 lines with the size of this fire )
' Floan what do you need me to do? I have a blitz fire out in front of the building spraying onto the first floor'

"Received IC, would you like the structure evacuation tones transmitted or not yet?"

*I watch the callboard and unit cameras

*the fire where I am spraying begins to fade. i slightly move the nozzle to the left. the flames hiss, spit ash everywhere, and die. I then hear the possibility of an evac.

I make sure the air horn button is within my reach.*

"Ladder 1 command, to DCF1, I think it would be best to attack the fire defensively. It doesn't look too safe from inside and the explosions will make everything worse."
*I go up to the ladder controls and put it up to the top floor and start spraying the fifth floor. I feel the mist of the water drip down partially onto my helmet and face but I manage to keep looking up. I keep my wits about me even though the intimidating look of the fire spewing out of the windows makes me want to do otherwise. 'I never became a firefighter to run away from fire.' I say to myself trying to build myself up.*
'Alright, ladders up. Let's get someone to vent the roof.'

SEV to Ladder 1 command, is there anything I can do?

"Ladder 1 command to SEV, get a pike check the roof for us. See if it's safe for us to go on."
(I gotta go)

" Pump-11 Command to Pump-11 Matthews, grab a 2" line with Anders and start spraying down as high as it will reach, Casey stick on the deck Gun, Cressler, you and the probie start handling the perimeter with a 2" line, ALL Pump-11 crews be prepared for entry when needed, IF we are needed inside we will rally at the engine and go in together. Watch for falling debris, make sure to keep ur cover's on. "

* I walk over to Matthews and Anders. *

' U guys ok? '

*I grab a pike from the ladder and start climbing. Once I reach the top I start probing around and it feels good so i get on the roof*
"Botfish to Ladder 1 command it loo....... krrrr... buzz"
'Where am I?'
*I try to talk into the radio but my radio isn't working*
'HELLO! Owww! My arm. I think I fell through the roof'

'Got it Lieutenant'
*I get ready to attack the fire with Cressler and the 2"*

'As good as I could be Lt., I got my wits with me.'

*I glance up at the building just as I see something disappear from the roof.

'hey Lt. did you see that?'

*I see Floan look and I go grab a 2" line and screw it on to a coupling. I walk towards the building with my air on.

'coming Tim?'

" MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY, URGENT TRAFFIC. FF BOTFISH FELL THROUGH ROOF MAYDAY MAYDAY RIT TEAM MAN LAST SAW ON ROOF, FELL THROUGH"
* Idrop the line i was flaking out and run over to floan and command*
' austin just fell through the roof guys!'

"SEV I didn't copy that last transmission."
*I wait for a while and I start making my way up. I get to teh top while the deck gun's still raging on the 5th floor. I see a hole and I realize what it is.*
'S*** not again.'
*I press the mayday button on my radio and a loud beep comes over everyone's radio.*
"Ladder 1 command to RA-1, activate RIT. We have a firefighter down on the fifth floor. The roof is deemed unsafe."
*As the adrenaline comes over me, a huge wave of guilt passes through me too. I sweat a little more than I think I'm used to and I climb down to the controls. I get on the mic and notify the RIT.*
"Ladder 1 to RIT, we'll reposition the ladder to the fifth floor. Pumper 11, use one of our crosslays since its closer to the ladder to back up the RIT on the fifth floor."
(Notify me if I'm overstepping my power)
*I climb up and yell out to Austin.*
'Austin! Austin, can you hear me!'

* I run over and connect the 2" line to the side of the truck then the highrise pack to the end of it so we have more length and run it up the side of the ladder as jack and i prepare to back up the rit team*
' Lets go, we dont have anytime!!'
* i say with a macho attitude that anyone would have after what just happened*
* i throw my mask on and open up the nozzle and start dosing the nearby flames*

*I run back over to Lieutenant Floan.*
'Where do you want me now, Lieutenant?'

*I run back down to the controls and move the deck gun side to side trying to clear most of the rooms but I quickly realize that it might hurt Austin. I cut the water to it and see Tim and Jack pass me.*
'I can't believe that happened.'
*I say in disbelief still. I try to suck it up and focus so I grab a crosslay and run up the ladder after charging it and start to spray with Jack and Tim. I touch Tim's SCBA bottle to let him know I'm here and I move back to spray the walls and stay close to the window so I don't crowd the room.*

*I try to reach my air and notice it's leaking. Then I hear someone yelling*
'HELLO! Who is it. I'm down here! I think my arm is broken and myair is leaking!'
*I say yelling and trying to reach my air*

"RA1 HRES copies, can we get a distance he fell? 1 floor or all the way? BREAK to FF Botfish, activate your PASS and alert us to amount of air left."
*I throw my HRES kit on my back and hand Mitch the RIT pack and backboard. I walk over to the ladder*
"RA1 to OSC HRES Hutchison and SAR Daniels entering the structure, performing RIT following a Right hand search pattern. BREAK to all crews not currently involved in mayday operations, please use another channel for traffic."
(Tell me if I'm oversteping but this is our county's RIT protocol.)

" Pump-11 Command to Ladder 1 copy that we'll enter on the 5th. BREAK Pump-11 Command to ALL pump-11 crews, drop your task at hand and rally at the Engine, we are taking RIT to rescue firefighter down. say again MAYDAY MAYDAY ALL Pump-11 crews to the Engine immediatly. "

* I run over to the Engine and grab a Halligan to assist in the rescue. *

' Van Der Water, man the Deck Gun, Matthews, Anders, Colwell, and cressler your all with me. I need a ALS bag , Stokes and a extra air pack. '

"RA1 to P11, please grab a line and prepare to cover our egress."
*Mitch and I get off the ladder at the 5th floor and begin our search. As we come in to the room below where the ladder crew was venting I see a hole in the center of the room. I distribute my body weight evenly and strech out to look over the edge. I see the hole goes down to the 3rd floor.*
"RA1 to OSC we have the FF down, hole through to the 3rd floor we are begining Nance drill extrication. BREAK to L1 we need 1 or 2 more persons for extrication. I don't know how well that floor is going to hold."
*While I wait for response I grab the HRES pack and get out the 250' of rope. I tie a handcuff knot in the rope, and then slip the knot on to my boots.*
'Mitch once we get some help, you're going to lower me down the hole, with the backup SCBA.'

*I pull the line back from the building with Tim to the engine where we recieve our orders. Tim and I start up the ladder just after the RIT crew. Once we enter and are sure the floor is stable, we make a defensive strem into the room as the Floan, Cressler, and John enter with the various equipment they brought with them.

Through my breaths in my SCBA I say into the radio:

"Okay Lt. Nozzel man is ready when the rest of you are ready."

" Pump-11 copies RA-1, Casey, Cover the RA with the Deck Gun, aim above them so you done blow them off the ladder . "

' My guys lets Move now, Casey stick with the Deck Gun, colwell make sure we have a 2" line charged on our ascent. '

* I start jogging off to the ladder to head into the building with my crew. *

* Once we are inside I look around and immediatly see that the room is full of Smoke I look over and see Mitch with cory ready to go down to the patient. *

' Lets get over there and help them now. '

" Pump-11 command to OSC we are at RA-1 interior, we will assist in extrication of Botfish and interior attack. "

' Mitch what can we do to help, Jack Cover us with the line. '

*I nod at Floan then open the line in a fog pattern and croutch down so I can hit the walls with a semi-fog pattern. The room is closed off other then the window we came in through, the hole in the roof, and the hole in the floor. This room is more of a storage closet then anything with how small it really is.

* I walk over and check Cory's gear making sure he is secure. *

' U ok going down alone? U need one of us to go with u? We have our ALS bag, Stokes and extra air pack. If you need them. '

* I look down and see Austin laying there, I look back at Cory. *

' Dude thats a long way down. U sure ur good alone? '

'Lt. if you and your crew can help Mitch on the line that would be great. There's 250' of rope in the HRES pack, tie that off on the back up SCBA and once I'm down lower that. I'll send the rope back up for the stokes, once I have the SCBA.'
*I start over the edge of the hole as Mitch, with P11's assistance lowers me down slowly to Botfish.*
'Yeah I'll go alone, I don't know how weak that floor is so I really don't want any one else going down unless necesary. I have my HRES pack with my ALS gear so we're good there but have you're stokes rigged to go. We'll switch him to the backboard once we get him up.'

*i jog over to the engine and mask up*
'ready to go Lt.'

' got it, we'll handle it from up here u just be safe. OK guys Tim and Colwell help lower Cory down, Moon can you set up the stokes and get it ready to go down, I'll hook the Spare SCBA up and get it ready. '

* I walk over carefully and grab the Spare SCBA, I hook it up to the HRES rope and tie off the Mask to the end. I head back over to the men and see that they are lowering cory down slowly. *

" Pump-11 Command to RA-1 Hutch, give us a status on the lowering and what you see when your going down if anything. IE: Fire, floor integrity below us etc etc. also tell us if we are going fast or slow. "

* I enter the structure with the spare sba and turn it over to floan *
* i start shaking as my nerves grow thinking that could of been me if i was still on the ladder*
* i grab the rope and nod to everyone showing that i am ready to lower him*

*I head to the back of the truck and pull the stokes off the top of the trucks and attach the ropes and get it ready for lowering*
'Ready to go boss'

"IC copies firefighter down. We will alert the trauma center for stand by."

"IC to COPA, We have a firefighter Botfish down that is going to be rescued and transported to ERT:Trauma by RA1. We are defensively attacking the fire. Can you also start us a EMS unit for rehab and medical stand by."

"IC to LADDER 1, I want all units off of the roof once Botfish is rescued, Before we get a take two of that."

( chief: do we want a second ambo? if ra transports we have no rehab/rit)

* Moon comes in and we tie the stokes up to the rope and begin to lower it with Cory's HRES pack and other tools along with the scba*

"Understood, will request a medic unit to scene to transport. Please leave RA-1 at scene until medic arrives to relieve. L-1 to take over RIT"

*I see men coming down but i'm so dizzy*

"RA1 Hutchison to Daniels, go ahead and stop, I'm about 6 inches off the gound."
*I get one foot loose and test the floor very gently. I feel the floor creak but it stops once my full foot is down.*
"Hutchison to P11 Lt. floor below you is good, however, I would not advise anyone go near the edge of the hole."
*I get off of my rope and head over to Botfish. I deactive his PASS device, check his air, and take his pack off gently. I then take off his helmet leaving his mask in place for now.*
'Botfish, can you hear me?'
*After I hear nothing, I do a quick sternal rub. I notice his air is out and he's unconscious, probibly from lack of air.*
"RIT to P11 Lt. and Command, I have located the downed FF, he is unconscious and out of air. BREAK to P11 Lt. I'll let you know when we can get him up."
*I grab the SCBA that just hit the ground and quickly hook Botfishes mask up to the new SCBA. I gently log roll Botfish in to the stokes, put the new and old SCBA in the stokes between his legs.*
"RA1 to P11 Lt. go ahead and take him up."
*Just as I'm looking around, I hear a faint cry coming from the room behind me. Oh crap I hope they didn't miss some one when they were counting.*
"RA1 to Command requesting permission to investigate, I hear a faint cry in the room behind me."

*I think to myself quick before answering. Have him do it or Beard go in.*

"Go ahead Hutch just hurry up. Botfish needs to be transported."

"IC to COPA, Please send a ALS unit."

*I see everyone pulling the rope. I continue to spray the walls down and can feel more heat then before. The area shakes a little and an explosion is heard I am shaken and almost lose my balance from my croutched position.

'Everyone okay?'

"Hutchison Copies, doing it quickly."
*I grab my gear and quickly crawl to the room where I heard the cry. I see the door of a closet open and the faint cry is getting stronger. I open the door and see a little girl, about 3 months old curled up in a ball crying. Atleast she's breathing.*
"Hutchison to command, I have a 3 month old civilian, found. RA1 will transport both victims to ETC. Botfish is coming back around after the SCBA air. Civilian is non critical. Meet me at RA1 once were down, please."
*I head over to the rope, slip my feet in to the knot and prepare to be lifted up.*
"Hutchison to P11 Lt. I have one in my arms, go ahead and lift me up."

( remember patient count!)
* I start to lift up cory and when he gets to the top i un hook him and prepare to back out of the building*

"Ladder 1 copies. Taking RIT ops. for the rest of the call."
*I shake over a bit and know this building will come down soon (Don't worry, I'm not letting it happen) then I see Cory hook up the bottle and also hear the faint cry. I compaose myself while I see Cory go up being lifted up by the line and I leave the building too still spraying.*

*I Matthews unhooks me and I hand the girl off to floan. I throw my HRES gear back in the bag. I look over and see that they have Botfish secured to the back board, and ready to go.*
'Matthews, you and Daniels get Botfish out. I'll take the girl to the RA.'
"RA1 to Command we have 2 victims, both being evacuated and taken by RA1 for eval."

(I'm so lost where am I...and if there is a 3 month old there is probably a mother or father around you can't leave them there alone and they wouldn't leave without the kid...)

*I walk over to Lt.*
'Where do you need me lt.'

(Or Mommy and Daddy when out for a bit and left the kid home. Trust me you'd be suprised how young parent's think that they can leave kids alone.)
*I carry the girl in my arms and climb down the ladder. I go to the back of RA1 and grab the child seat out of the copartment and set it up on the bench. I strap the girl in and grab the pediatric NC and put that on her.*
"RA1 to OSC can you meet me at my vehicle."
