Yeah, behind this annoyance and complaining by me, I do actually really enjoy doing EMS where I am. Anywhere between 4-8 calls in one day shift, Most calls I've had in a 24 hour shift is 26 (Not including the ones the Fire department or mutual aid had to take because we weren't available).

Often get something interesting by bordering cities and having the random ghetto or gang neighborhoods scattered throughout town. Gotten some pretty interesting stuff by working here. Shootings, stabbings, homicides, very frequent fires, in addition to the regular day to day calls like seizures, accidents, difficulty breathing and all that.

We have a large national park and federal lake in our county. We got some good boating accidents. And some missing people in the national forests.

And another thing here, the EMS director died this morning. He was suddenly ill yesterday so they had to cancel my explorer class.

Oh wow, That's very sad! Do they know what killed him? I'm very sorry for their loss. May he RIP.

Yeah, we found them. Had a heck of a MVC the other day. Guy rolled it twice has a severe concession and a broken back. I heard he's going down the drain quickly.

We've got a storm rolling through. According to the radio cops are busier than ever. EMS is fairly quiet, and the fire department isn't even using tones anymore tonight. It's just say your clear then you go to the next assignment.

"Engine 1's clear of the fire alarm."

"Engine 1s clear of the alarm at 22:26, head up to fairview for downed power lines."

"Engine 2's clear of the accident."

"Engine 2's clear, head to Rosemont for a transformer explosion."

"Engine 3's in Service"

"Engine 3 assist 2 on Rosemont with the transformer."

That's pretty much how FD is sounding right now, not even bothering using tones anymore. Cops are the same going to all these calls FD is, in addition to any other downed trees/limbs/lines/outages or whatever.

Auxiliary cops have been called in and some put in cars, others put in the comms center to answer calls (There's at least like 5 calls for each one report of lines or trees or whatever down))

So far had Engine 1 clear an alarm, and is now on their how to a wire down, on fire. Engine 2 and Ladder 1 investigating an alarm somewhere else and also found a power line down across the road at their location, and the cops doing a bunch of stuff, one of them has a tree down on power lines somewhere.

I;d give you the scanner for the town i work in too, but their not on radioreference anymore for some reason. Interesting stuff happening there too.

Yay. More severe thunderstorms. Thunderstorms are cool, but after Friday night's with losing power, wires getting knocked down, trees going down, and friend's house catching on fire after getting struck by lightning, I'm kinda bored of them lol.

At least all the bad storms came in between when i was doing EMS. 8am saturday to 8am sunday (this morning) no storm detail for me!

I just got voted into the Volunteer FD and I'm really hyper.

There was an earthquake in my house and now in Richmond City, there has been a report of a stairs collapse!

I felt that freakin thing in New Jersey! It was fun lol

My first earthquake. I was walking up stairs, my mother was like "Why is this shaking?" (sitting on the couch), then I looked around, and the sliding doors were shaking, then my dad said from the kitchen he could feel it walking and that the chandelier was moving.

Then FD is going out for alarms now, and the County Mutual Aid tones just announced it and let everybody know and OEM is working everything.

That was fun up here, hopefully everything going OK down there

Dang, we get quite a bit around where I live. They have been doing a lot of drilling for natural gas. So, we've started getting earthquakes. Their fun if nobody gets hurt or anything.

So, everytime I meet someone lately the first thing they ask is if I have kids. Kind of weird

Really? You guys care about a major metropolitan area more then anywhere else? Seriously, where I live, my property is fucked up, my airsoft field is mostly destroyed, there's shit that's fallen all through my house, my 2 computer monitors are destroyed, and you guys care more about a bunch of pussies who felt the earth shake a little? I've heard how bad it was up in new york, it don't compare to shit that happened here, I'm gonna be gone for the next 2 months fixing this shit up.

Now that I've calmed down a bit, yeah I heard its bad in NY. My house's floor is not the best and it compressed a bit and formed a little convex lense that fucked the whole house up, not very happy

Wow, I didn't feel anything over here! We just had thunderstorms and lighting. I have a funny story actually.

So soccer practice was cancelled, but the girls still had volleyball. My mom's the kindergarten teacher and she had a meeting, so my two friends, my brother, and I were all in her room waiting to go home. Then the fire alarm went off.

I run out thinking there's a real fire. The principal and secretary find that the alarm came from the gym, but nobody pulled it. They shut it off and I went back to the room with my friends.

A few minutes later, I hear a Q siren. I'm like 'Guys...I think the fire department is coming here!'
I hear some more sirens, airhorns, and saw the chief driving by. Sure enough, when I step out of the room and look at the door, there's Truck 2 right in front of the school! I was like 'Guys, the fire department's here!' Then my mom said we had to stay in the room so I couldn't take any pics. Pretty funny though, cuz when they left, the power went out.

Iowa is too hot, its about 80 degrees right now and humid.. I don't like this! I can't wait for winter when the high is 30!

The earthquake scared the crap outta my mom but I just walked down the stiars since it was kinda fun moving down the stairs while the house was shaking. Scary stuff though if your house ended up like Ewan!

What I would give for 80 degrees. I haven't seen Anything less than 96 degrees for a high in months.

Hannahan, I actually am unemployed. And untrained. I have no official EMS cert, just some knowledge. The marching is for NJROTC.

No Hannahan, we only had one confirmed heat related call. But, you can tell summer is over. We went from having 5 to 9 calls in a shift to maybe one or two in a 48/72 hour shift period.

So... I just got my official oh-wait-we-changed-our-minds Phone call from my township. My physical is next week and then I'll be getting ready to train for the fire department. I'm pumped.

Thanks! No, it's a paid per call, but it's the only department other than the nearby metro department that trains all the way up to EMT, so I'm really excited about it.

It's also a POV department. Epic.

Cool, I'm trying to find a college that has EMT-I or advanced EMT as their now called. Want to do that before I invest in medic school

That's cool. I could only find 1 college around here that did it, but AMR and the two local companies we have out here all train.

Oh the joys of the canadian system. I can train in EMR for a thousand bucks, and have it done in ten days, or become a paramedic for two thousand in like 10 months. And it's as easy as that

In Arkansas to be a paramedic it takes a year usally. But, that is including your ER time and Ride time. Basic and Intermediate (Advanced) you can get in sixish months. I like you can start lines and give some drugs. I think Arkansas allows us to tube. We are a screwed up state when it comes to EMS.

Our EMT and Paramedic certs take just as long to train, but are 1500 and 4500 respectively

I think the paramedic cert here takes 1-2 years...

Yeah, I ended up walking the parade when I was supposed to ride lol We did really well for a small community.

Around here. They don't let us do sirens. Whenever I go on a parade, we can never do sirens or air horns.
