Sad thing is no matter how much people see that they don't care. People just think of themselves, main reason why people don't move out of the ******* way while we were heading to one of the elementary schools yesterday for a choking kid.

Yeah. Also the reason that each day 3+ trips are made to one of the 3 colleges in town for nosebleeds, hangovers, etc. stuff a taxi or the new bus route could easily handle

Re: Random Hang Out Topic
Town nearby has a water main break, and there is very low water pressure, basically making the hydrants useless, so we're having a lot of mutual aid going over there.
Here's the dispatch:
http://www.edispatches.com/orgs/general/2011-10-16-150746-UnionCountyMA-D237.mp3
Having 5 engines going there, each with 500 gallons.
3 out of county 3000 gallon tenders
3 or 4 mutual aid coordinators
and 1 state regional coordinator.
This is the only news article about it so far. I'll update you as significant updates come:

No. I'm mrengine9. And Idk why but I still hate blues especially on FDNY rigs. Any other trucks maybe but fdny...it just doesn't seem normal. It's like...fire does red lights and blue belongs to police.

I do too. I used to be interested in it back in my wacker days, but now that I actually am working in EMS, I've come to realize how little the lights matter and how much wackers and fire buffs annoy me lol. No offense to anybody, just my thoughts lol.
To be honest, the lights on some of our ambulances are starting to annoy me. I was driving behind one going somewhere the other night at about 2am, it had it's lights on. It was blinding. It was literally hard to keep my eyes open/focused while I was behind it, so if you believe there is no such thing as an ambulance being too bright or too well lit or whatever, well yes, it is possible. Don't believe me? Go sit in traffic behind one of our ambulance in the middle of the night.

I rode in one of the new dodge chasis ambulances, it wasn't a bad ride. I like the ford e-series since you have the nice open space to climb back.
And, there is a reason I almost never run code. . . .Well actually my supervisor told my medic we have to now. lol

Re: Random Hang Out Topic
I like how we have our lights here, it's simple. For everything!
Units that will be on the highway, or in darker areas, they get more lights, for lights, extra lights in front and back, just because they'll be in the dark, and the extra lights are like a notice saying "DON"T F-ING HIT ME" The ones in the city? Police have a light bar, Fire have bare minimum and EMS, well, they are pretty standard, grille lights, front bar, side and rear singles, and that's it. There isn't a need for more

I F*CKING HATE FIRE BUFFS. Hoollyyyyyy shit I don't care how much more you think you know about my profession then I do cause you've read the books. Most are fat asses who read shit out of a book and think that it's a cake walk. Well I got some fucking news for them. It's a lot fucking harder then it looks, and you can't just get everything that a fireman knows out of some book. I don't give a shit if you have every edition of Globe and Morning Prides ever produced, memorized MY shift schedule better then I have, know every part on the truck, and think you can make better budget options better then I can. GET A FUCKING JOB AND MOVE THE f*ck OUT OF YOUR PARENT'S BASEMENT FOR f*ck'S SAKE.

Re: Random Hang Out Topic
I do agree lol...even though that was the exact description of me. I read more stuff about firefighting than school and other things put together! At some things, I even know more things about the FDNY than the firefighters do now but what makes buffing great is the fact that you're learning about one of the greatest prefessions in the world and actually seeing if you still want to do it when you get older. I saw that I wanted to do it so I took the initiative and slowed down on buffing and joined a department. All in all, that's pretty much what buffs want. They like to know more about the profession they're trying to enter. I don't recommend them shoving their knowledge down the firefighters throat until they become one but yes RAVEN, fire buffs are wannabe firefighters. Some are just more......show-off than others. They like to show off and tell firefighters everything they know thinking they know the job inside and out. Hey if that's what they want, let them be. Oh and kids can't move out of their parents basement until they're like 18 so I don't think that can be happening soon haha. If you're talking about adults then yeah and if they're out of shape, tell them to join a volunteer department that doens require a training academy to get in hahaha like Goochland.

Re: Random Hang Out Topic
I personally don't like the ones that spend more money on lights for their car, then the full worth of the vehicle. Those and the ones that try and say that they are better because theyknow more, when in reality, it's all book smarts, and no real world knowledge

Re: Random Hang Out Topic
It goes the same for every job. If an employer believes you are too over-qualified for the job, and will make it known, they won't hire you, simply because firing you will be too much paper work. You can be very over-qualified, but if you approach with humility, and show you're willing to learn, you'll do well. I mean I've worked jobs where I would simply call someone, get information and repeat (not telemarketer, it was for a charity, and they were volunteers) yet I've also done complete events for other charities. I still got the jobs, since, yes I was overqualified, and over trained, but I was willing to learn, interested in the cause, and it was obvious I'd take my place in line and do it with a smile.

Re: Random Hang Out Topic
Oh yeah, when I go for interviews and people ask me questions, I don't just BOOM tell you everything I know. If you ask me about some things then I will tell you what I know but I'm not going to overdo it. I don't want to sound like a know it becuase...I don't know it all and I don't wanna seem haughty. Wow, didn't know about the overtrained thing though. I was just trying to be nice and know as much as I can so when I get hired, I can be the best I can be haha.

Re: Random Hang Out Topic
That ain't as bad as some I've seen. But, still more than I would have on it. I think the minimum the government requires for an ambulance to operate is good enough for me. I'm not all about lights and sirens. I turn all that stuff off before we arrive on scene. Unless its a MVC or the truck is gonna be on the road way or personal has to be near the road. It just seems unnecessary to me.

Interesting day today. Good friend of mine got arrested. Had a warrant out (So I hear) related to drug dealing. Shame, good friends with him when I was younger. Really nice kid. But now's he's got 8 months in (I'm assuming) the county jail. He was a senior too, so looks like no graduation for him this year.

Re: Random Hang Out Topic
Funny yet depressing how a great day can turn around so quickly. Friend taken to the hospital, and my girlfriend not talking to me.
The part about my friend in the hospital sucks, but the part about the girlfriend, I often overthink things. I'm sure it'll be resolved by tomorrow, and if not I'm spending a relaxing weekend with my brother. We'll go to a hockey game, then I'll hang out with him over the weekend. Hopefully a relaxing weekend can get my mind off things.

Yeah, as predicted I completely over thought everything. lol, she just messaged while I was typing my post earlier all sorry and worried like "omg I didn't mean to do that!" "I don't want you to think I hate you" "Im so sorry!" haha so all is well there.
And as for my friend, I actually heard the dispatch go out and it sounded pretty bad, but he was in a car accident. 2 car head on collision, one car was supposedly on fire. Fire department had to extricate him, and he was transported with ALS onboard, the other driver was just BLS.
But still, nice weekend with my brother to get my mind off things is always nice. I mean, who could understand you better or could be a better friend friend than your own brother?
But still, crazy how a week and day that was going great can completely turn around in a matter of hours.
