wtf again??? for a whole county, i would estimate about 200 ambulances in our county from about 30 different departments and private companies

You live in New York. I live in South Carolina. We have 160,099 people in our county. Assuming we have 10 ambos in service county-wide (pretty sure we have roughly that many usually), that's 1 ambo for every 16,010 people in the county.

That's why you have so many ambulances. We have 160,100 people. You have 744,344. Means you have a lot more. We have 1 ambulance for every 108 sq miles, or roughly 1 per 16,010 people.

but a lot of that is just the city's population...

but what im saying is where im from i can get a ton of ambulances fast, ones not even near the city

we have 1 ALS unit for the county and 4 or 5 BLS units. Then all the FDs have First Responder as an ambo assist team. The ALS and one BLS are in the town that I live closest to.

Okay. But still, that's not the norm.

Where I is The Local Fire Departments Run ALS Ambulances, and, in most of them near me, the FD dont have BLS Ambulances, They are privatly contracted to companys like northwest christian, abott, and 1 more that I forget the name of. I guess places are different, but population makes a big difference on how emergency services operate, 45 minutes away from me I guess it would be about the same as O'Reilly.

we could probably get 14 in about 20 most of them from the same company haha only delay would be how long extra crews could be pulled in

We have 2 ambulances in our town, and each of the ones next to us have 2 each. That makes 4 just in like...not a very large area.

Yeah, our truck covers 900 square miles. Were 45 minutes from the nearest hospital. And if we call for help we never get it. Two other services refuse to come help us. Even though we run calls for them all the time. And our own trucks won't cover our run. So, were it for everything. Good thing I actually get to do stuff as a basic. Any kind of trauma we dispatch Air Evac even though their an hour away so we usually cancel them. Basically, we are for sure rural EMS. And, I guess you could say we cover up to three counties by ourselves sometimes. And working 48 and 72 hour shifts equal not a lot of sleep. But, I wouldn't trade it for anything.

We've got 6 ambulances in town, but usually no more then 2 are on duty at a time.

So, I found out yesterday we had a call in our county while we were on another call. Our own trucks weren't available or so they said, the next truck in Glennwood was out on a run. And, the next service Lifenet turned it down because it was in our county. I wonder how they could sleep knowing by turning down a call someone could die. Luckily a truck an hour away responded for us. It pisses me off because we cover for Lifenet many times and they won't return the favor.

Do a drive by in your ambulance on theif offices, you can explain easily why you were there adn they wouldn't suspect you at all.

The Medic I work with refuses to turn down a call. If were clear we go, I feel the same way. It's a 911 call, somebody needs help and I want to get there and try to help. Maybe I got the purpose of EMS wrong or something.

not when i'm responding as a FF and not working EMS that day lol if I was on EMS that'd be fine but i had to leave my real job to put turnouts on in 100* weather to get there are realize all he really needed was a tow truck

At least you weren't at a fire. We had about 10 firefighters drop yesterday because of the heat. All the runs the ambulance went on was firefighters.
