theres no good weather to fight a fire in....in the winter you get hypo thermia and the water literally feezes to you in the summer you pass out we almost brought two tree down last winter because our deck gun put so much ice on the trees it took my gear almost a week to dry out

Haha, cool. We played hose soccer lol. We did the same with you guys but with a soccer ball and attached a 1 3/4 to a gated wye and hydrant. We used cones as the goal posts and had to use a bunch of teamwork to get the ball to the other side. That was on a hot day and we sprayed each other down just for fun haha. Good times, Good times.

lol, well, EMS takes up most of the ground floor, I'm pretty sure FD has their living quarters in the basement lol. But if the cars on the apron I wonder how they got Engine 2 out lol. I wonder if they had to call a headquarters engine to come put out a fire at station 2 lol

EMS building is in the back of station 2 btw.

the could of just opened the bay doors and pulled a line off, and sometimes when your inside you dont really know whats going on outside, i know at my station if there was a car on fire i doubt we would know until some one saw it

My girlfriend plays too and donates half the food she makes to me, since she can't eat it all in a day, between the HOPE II supplies, and her own makings, so that usually holds me three cycles, but lately, I'm squeezing four or five 400 health cycles in a day, so it devours health

Ok, the boat thing sounds cool can't wait. So um, I was riding along with the FDNY EMS today, good good day. Second call in, we get an inhalation of smoke job (they call them JOBS instead of CALLS). We get right down the road from it and as I watch the computer, the screen changes to 1 (1 being the worst call, 8 being the non-critical types) and Cardiac/Resp arrest. We're all like "Oh s***!" so we make a fast u-turn and drive fast to the scene. We get on scene with, if I remember correctly, 45 engine on scene starting cpr. I ask one of the EMT's, since I'm on a BLS ambo, what I should bring? "Everything!" He says in a calm but firm voice. I grab the AED, trauma bag and the oxygen bag while the other EMT (not the one that told me everything but his partner) gets the suction stuff and helps get the stretcher out. I see the EMS supers truck pull up as we run into the garage (that's where the victim is) and I put all of the equipment on the stretcher. I quickly take it back off and hold it then the EMS Lt. (the supervisors that drive in the shiny red battalion chief looking trucks in NYC) asks me if I'm an observer. I say yes so he tells me to bring all of the equipment back to the ambulance quickly. I see police arrive on scene as well as an ALS ambulance then I hear the emergency personnel saying we should just get him on the backboard and stretcher and go so that's what they do. Right when I put everything back in the ambulance in a way that everything is easily accessible but doesn't get in anyone's way, they put the vic in the ambulance so I get in. The Lt. looks at me and asks if I have ever done cpr before. I say on a dummy yes, on a real person, no. He assigns me to bag the guy while IV is being set up and while compressions are going on. We are soon off to the hospital code three with the EMS Lt. on our heels in his truck as well as the ALS ambulance following closely. The Paramedic doing cpr gets tired of doing compressions after a while so I start doing it too. I hear some ribs crack which is kinda good and that means I'm going deep enough and we get to the hospital. I return to bagging and as we pull up to the hospital, we shock him. He jolts a little but no response. We bring him into the ER with onlookers watching in horror as I'm bagging the guy and others helping with cpr, IV and just rolling him where he needs to go. We get him onto his respective hospital bed and we let the nurses and doctors take over. I'm taking off my gloves and thing to myself, "Am I supposed to be crying? No? Yes? Nobody else is crying... oh well, I don't know him and I tried my best." I just walk off and talk to the EMS Lt. who told me I did a good job and everything so I was happy I helped but kinda disappointed that the guy died but never showed it or...felt it.

Action filled day right? My question is, do I need to go to some kind of sensitivity training for this or is this normal? I've seen people cry over things like this but it never hit me like that. Please tell me your thoughts and thank you for reading my extremely long post haha.

Being jaded comes with the territory, Hannahan. You should be all right. If it does bother you that badly, it might be a good idea to bring it up with your Lt or similar. They'd have a good wealth of knowledge you can tap into.

Depends, sounds like there were underlying conditions you guys didn't know about. Death is natural mate, and trust me, I've seen shit that would but hair on an 80 year old man's head before.

Everyone is different. I dont have a to big of problem with medical adult doas because you did what you could, but kids and accidents are tough. Everyone is different. My dad comes home and cries after fatal accidents and is fine after. Some talk about it and are good. Sometimes when its bad enough, they need counciling.

Yeah, like if it was a kid I would've shed some tears but with this vic, It didn't affect me. Oh well, thanks everyone for your insightful words lol.

I call them jobs too here in New Jersey, but I just call them calls on here because I assume that's what people are more used to hearing. And no, crying is totally normal. I've cried to on certain calls. Not on every, but some. Particularly any calls involving serious accident or deaths with children.

Accidents or anything involving children, is usually the only job that I'll actually call the hospital a few hours later to follow up on how the kid is doing.

Ah, I see. Yeah, I would try to do that also but I was way more emotionally detached than I would've thought haha. It is normal, I jut wanted to know you guys' thoughts on the matter but other than that, it was a action filled day with an unconscious victim being my next call .

Exactly. It just doesn't happen. Example timeline: Big thing comes into Phoxlind. Everybody immediately goes, "Gonna be a call." Sometime within the next 48 hours: tones go out.
