Yeah, I thought that as long as you don't identify anyone without their permission (injured and deceased), then it's OK. I guess it's fine to identify other people like firefighters and policemen and stuff.

Filming/recording units rolling out to a call is a HIPPA violation. Anything that could disrupt the privacy of a patient or victim medicaly, and seeing as how fire department treats people medicaly, politically the fire department is classified as a "medical provider."

Like I said, it's better to play it safe then have an ambulance chasing lawyer slap you with a multi hundred thousand dollar law suit.

I wanted to take a pic of an accident that we had yesterday soo badly but after thinking of past mistakes, I thought it wouldn't be the right thing to do. Like a wise person ((^) yea that guy) once told me, if you think about whether to do it or not, just tell yourself not to do it. HIPAA is a federal law so violating it is a federal offense, not just local.

i dont see how recording a fire truck responding is a violation of HIPPA? if i recorded the dispatcher saying " john smith wants to kill himself at 123 white rd" then it would be a violation, but just a truck driving isnt invading anyones privacy

negative anything said over a radio...which btw that shouldn't be said...however anything over a radio is unsecured and is public information becuase anyone with 40 bucks can get a scanner and listen...that is why there are rules over what you can broadcast thats why they don't give names out and for larger places with fancy equipment they don't even have to give out addresses they send it right to the truck just like our E.A.T.

Take it from me (MAthews, same exact thing hapened to me), don't even film the trucks responding because a call could come in at the time of departure maybe for that station or another one and the watchers can hear everything dispatched over the radio.

What if it's along the highway or something, and they're just going bye. I've seen so many fire truck response vids, and I've never heard of lawsuits.

That's the reason I keep mine unlisted. I can share them with friends or family, and not have the general public seeing them. I mean still I suppose I could be in some sort of violation if they ever found out, but it's less likely.
They are only us responding to the calls. I turn off the camera either as we arrive if it is a public building, or just before we turn onto the street if it's residential. I obviously wouldn't record a patient or with a patient or their home.

I think HIPPA is also the reason that show "Firehouse USA" was canceled. It may not be though, I don't remember the reason.

I'M FINALLY ON SUMMER BREAK! We rode our bikes to and from school today. It was like 100 on the way home, so my friend and I rode shirtless. My other friend didn't because he's kinda...umm...you get it.

Ok, it's pretty stupid. We started August 18th I think...or maybe the 19th. Anyway, we would've been out last Wednesday, but due to the blizzard, we added on like 3 days and then a couple more for other stuff I think...But there's a rumor that next year we'll be getting out like May 20th or something. Kinda sucks cuz I'd rather get out in June but start in like September. In May, the weather's still too cool.

we start around september 8th or so, and finish june 14th, plus a week afterwords for state tests

Lame... I got an 85 on a math exam not because I knew content, I only knew like 4 questions, but because I completly recreated the stage of Jump Man, aka the first Mario Bros game.

I think I've seen that before...Speaking of YouTube, this guy BakerM92 works for the Durham Highway FD in North Carolina. He had a bunch of response vids, but took them all off! Now he only has like 4 videos.

as did 911caddy who had some really good code drives!

so i was working down at PNC park today right doing photography and i found a bachelorette party i we took like 60 pictures in like 30 different places all slutty of course haha...I love my job

yea, a lot of people dont use their cmaeras right and run into a lot of liabality and posting things that shouldnt be posted..you just gotta be smart with them, they are a great tool when used right

haha it wasnt mine then, i sent a pm to him..and yea some depts just play it safe, i used to watch these videos form a greenville SC i think it was, they had good ones but the citizens found out about it and compalined it invaded their privacy so they took them all down

see that shit would piss me off there are a couple reasons it doesn't invade there privacy....
1. they probably said the full address over the radio which makes it public information and 2. It's a fire truck that is making a whole crap ton of noise anyone can find it and follow it oh and there is smoke pouring out of your house? 3. Chances are the newspaper will be there and take pictures and write a whole thing about it but they won't call them and complain will they?

1: actually im not to sure, cuz its not really public knowledge cuz really fire/police radios werent made to be listend to by the public, like idk how to say it, there not illegal obvisoly, but they werent meant for public use, and actually in my state the police switched to digital frequencies to prevent people from listening to them, and you can be fined if they catch you listening to them on a digital scanner, like they ever do catch people though

Actually all information given to the dispatchers is publc record. If I wanted to right now, I could go down to my local records office and request a copy of the tape from, oh lets see, the second alarm fire I heard go out yeasterday. They would have to giveme a copy because it falls under the freedom of information act.

yes what hutch said and actually it is 100% legal to listen in on any police,ems,fire scanner so long as you do not use it in the commission of a crime thats why scanners are legal...you can not illegally transmit on them obviously unless authorized that would fall under the commission of a crime but i felt like i needed to add that part
