It was deleted! When we got a call, Kelly made the mistake of leaving her phone on a table to go look at the big map because she's never heard of the road it was on. So while she was looking at the map, and while my lazy-ass crew woke up, i canceled the download and deleted the video!

haha the first time they did it I did respond I got about half way there before I figured out it was testing. but I didn't feel as bad when one of the Lt's also responded haha

Man, Hot Springs is getting hammered by storms. Already had one tornado cause a bunch of damage. Now, there are trees and power lines down everywhere. Sucks that all 10 ambulances are busy. Heard they have called in off duty crews. And, Garland County lost contact with one of their deputies and don't know where his last location was due to all the radio traffic.

It's been about 80's past couple of days. So it was bound to happen. Apparently another one is headed for Hot Springs. We've already had so much rain none of Lifenet's trucks can get anywhere do to the high rain.

And no, i'm just an little old Basic. haha I was going to go out with my dad he had to go out and help the highway patrol troopers. However, my mom is on the verge of hysteria so have to keep her somewhat calm.

it's says before it starts and at the end but i had it set to only go off only when our tones drop then theres about 10 stations that go off after us before it says it's a test and i have a scanner i usually keep on low but for some reason it was off

So many things called for that fail moment haha.
@ Lafferty, I feel ya. I had to help my mom when my dad was a bus driver and there was a big blackout in August 2003. She cried but I comforted her as best as I could. is she alright now?

Yeah she's doing good. I'm just worried about that deputy now. Been well over an hour and they still haven't heard from him. And they still don't know where he is at.

Oh geez. It's been raining a lot here, too. I am mad though! I wonder where my dept's tower went? It's gone! It's the coolest rig and it's gone! It's just not in the garage anymore and the Batt car is there now...

For some reason, what you said about the Ladder being gone just reminded me of a funny story in 2008 when we got our new Engine.

We got this brand new, really cool Engine about a week before Memorial Day weekend. It was going to be in services to start taking calls after the parade. So parade day comes, and in an effort to get everything in order, they had the fire trucks lining a road that goes downhill, the parade starts straight ahead. So Engine was parked up the hill, and about 200 feet up the hill was a moving truck unloading boxes and furniture and stuff. I' talking with the firefighters and EMS guys (This was before I started riding), then suddenly, one of the firefighters stodd up pushing is seat back pointing at the new truck and yelled "HOLY SHIT" We all looked over at new Engine 1, and just 100 feet up the hill, was the moving truck, rolling backwards down the hill with nobody in it, on a direct path for the front of the new engine. And before we knew it, the bumper on the new truck was pushed into the cab, and a few of the plastic covers over the LEDs on the front shattered. Luckily the parking brake on the new engine was able to hold the weight of both trucks.

New truck, got it last week, just about to go in service, and it's back to the dealer for repairs. That had to have been the most uncomfortable radio call for the firefighters. It was just something like:

"Engine 1-Alpha to Deputy 6."

"6."

"Can you come down to headquarters as soon as you can?"

*Deputy 6 arrives*

"Shit."
*Gets on phone with chief*

my dept tests on thursdays at 6:00 PM. a neighboring company tests pagers as well as outdoor sirens on all 3 stations every saturday at noon. they still keep the sirens for 3 reasons, 1. new york state requires firefighters having at least 2 ways of you being notifyed, 2. they like to keep the tradition going. 3. the majority of depts. in the county have them so, they are trying to fit in. sadly, my dept hasent used an outdoor notification device in over 10 years . hearing that siren fire up really gets my blood flowin'! LOVE THE SIREN!

EMS tests at 6:45 everyday, it's just the tones though to make sur ehtye work. We rarely use tones. And Fire department test at Midnight everyday, and on Saturday at 9:00am. And I don't know if we've ever used and outdoor siren. Pretty sure fire has been paid since the beginning so it's not really necessary since there's no volleys to notify.

everyday...that might be a bit of overkill haha and yeah we have pagers and an air horn we don't have the air raid type horn we have a hugeeeeee air horn. that shakes the hall when it goes off.

Here in KY we have tone test every morning at 0700, with radio checks after the tone test. It takes almost an hour because they send out the tones then, Stations 1 and 2 copy, followed by the Volunteer agencies... Whitehall, Waco, Kirksville, Union City, and Red Lick. After all stations have copied the tone test, every truck, ff, and volunteer will be called for radio checks.

Yeah everyday is overkill considering we rarely even use tones lol. And by tests I don't actually mean tests, it's just how stations have to identify themselves like once a day or something, they do it at midnight. The local paramedic company does theres at midnight to, just for identification though, it's something like "Time is midnight, 12am, the date is April 25, 2011. Monoc control operating on (whatever their frequency is) dispatcher ##."

County mutual aid frequencies do radio tests at 10am and 6pm on Saturdays. They only do it twice because doing it everyday would be a waste of time since every town in the county has to acknowledge it which is very time consuming.

It's just "Central to next available ambulance" or "Central to EMS-5". No tones, and I actually prefer it this way, without tones.

Nobody has to acknowledge the midnight transmissions, but when they do one each Saturday, they have to acknoledge the "safety message" that they do along with the test.

So it'll be some dumb safety tip that firefighters should already know like "Don't leave candles unattended"
then "Station 2 receives", "Station 3 receives", and sometimes they ask EMS to acknowledge, depends on the dispatcher, we usually don't.

They county tests, are long, that's probably why they only do it twice, so it goes like this:

"This is Station WPWC995 Union County Fire Mutual Aid, operating on a frequency of 453.150mhz, testing with al communication centers how are you receiving, Berkeley Heights, Clark, Cranford, Fanwood, Garwood, Hillside, Kenilworth, Linden, Mountainside, New Providence, Plainfield, Rahway, Roselle, Roselle Park, Scotch Plains, Springfield, Summit, Union, Westfield, Winfield, & Essex County Mutual Aid." Then "The date is Saturday, April 30, the time is 10:08, this is dispatcher #### with Union County Fire Mutual Aid, standing by."

Then the mutual aid coordinators working that day acknowledge. Then do it again at 6pm.

Great gawd!!! That is terribly long! (giggety) I can't believe they say that much stuff then end with a cheesy firefighter tip. I guess its for people with scanners haha.

lol maybe. What makes it long is how every town has to acknowledge it. And if they don't acknowledge the second time, they get called at the end of the test, then if they don't answer that, they get a phone call to see why they didn't answer.

What's sad is that he memorizes all of that. All the towns, in order, all the coordinators and dispatchers working that day, he memorized it word for word. lol
