School Explosion

"How many vic's do we have left on scene?"

"PC-1 enroute to School to help with crowd control"
*I start up the squad car, and drive slowly to the school, code 1. On arrival i assist with crowd control to move people away from the medical teams*


"PC-1 leaving scene and returning to patrol"

"Lt., i'm going to help Zack if you need me."

*I take the equipment down and return it to the ambulance, and drop the SCBA next to the squad. I get the stretcher and jump kit and head over to triage*

"McGuire to Raven, be advised, I left the SCBA I borrowed on the back bumper on the squad. I wasn't sure how you wanted me to put it back in the cabinet."



*I walk over to somebody in the non-severe colors*



"How are you doing? What's wrong"

"During the explosion, a lab stool was blown into me and knocked me down."

"Alright, are you having any head or back pains?"

"Know, it hit my shin, that's kinda what's hurting. I've broken a bone before, so I know what it feels like, and it's definitely not broken."

*He shows me his leg, it's just scraped*

"Oh, that's nothing. I'll just clean it up and put a bandage on it. Can you walk on alright?"

"Yeah, I kinda just walked off the pain."

"Alright" *I open the jump bag, get out a wipe, put a disinfectant on it, then put a bandage over it.

"Alright, you're good. Just wait here for a minute, I need to figure out where I'm sending you."

"Oh, haha. Thanks sir."



"McGuire to command, we are we sending the one's that don't require transport? Just send them back with their class?"

No, no students will be returning, they should all be going to their parents.

"A lot of them have burns, some have cuts and bruises, but other than that, everything's alright. Most of them can walk, just 2 more may need transport."

*I return some of the kids to their parents and tell them that their children are OK.*

Make sure any children being returned are given the full ERT EMS contact info, and what to do if any problems arrive, and our staff will take them in, not the general hospital.

I give the burnt children some more water.
"Drink as much as you can. Taht should make you feel a bit better. Also, don't move too much."

"Alright"
*I get up and check on Mcguire.*
"Hey Mcguire, is it possible to take one of those kids or are they too severe for you?"

Any children with burns are to be transported by us to our hospital please.

"For transport?"

*I take a look at the kids*

"Yeah, I can. Just help me get one of them on the stretcher and I'll take it from there."

"Alright, lets get em on a back board then." I get a backboard from the ambulance and put one victim on it.
"Hey McGuire, help me strap him down will ya?"

"Yeah."

*I get tape out of my pocket and wrap the legs and feet together, then cut the tape with my scissors. I put a strap over the legs, and another over the torso*

"Can you take care of the head?"

"Yeah."
*I put the head brace (not neck braces) on both sides of the head and strap him down there.*
"Alright on three, we'll pick him up and place him on the backboard. 1..2..3.."

*We place him on the stretcher* As we lift him, I notice something falls out of his pocket. I kneel down and pick it up*

"Ahh, perfect. It's a student I.D. card. Hannahan, when you get a chance either have yourself or somebody else get kids names or their student ID cards, then go into the school office and find the emergency cards. We can contact the guardians of the students being transported."

*I hand the card to Hannahan*

"Well, I'll take it from here, I'll be back."

*I pick up the jump bag and roll the stretcher to BLS-1, I put the stretcher in, shut the doors, go around to the side, put the jump bag in the cabinet then get into the cab. I turn on the lights and pull into the street*

"BLS-1 to Central, transporting one juvenile male to ERT hospital."

"Anyone need help?" ((No ones given me orders))

*I walk away with the card in my hand. I grab my inventory clipboard but pull out a clean sheet of paper.*

"Hey Mitch, can you help me with the names?"

*I walk up to the teacher and she still has a somewhat frantic look on her face.*

"Hello ma'am, My name is John Hannahan and I need something from you. I'm going to need the names of the seven kids who were burned. If you don't remember, try to remember any ids who are absent from this class right now.(She looks as if she's in her 50's)"
"Ok......Tyler Briggs uhhhhmmmm......Luke Porter, Francesca Valtez, David Sall, Aeisha Lewis, Tony Jones, and........ oh.. Brian Sleeton."
*I write all of the names down neatly on my clipboard and hand it to Mitch.*
"That's all of them me'am?"
"Yes."
"Ok thank you."
"Mitch, can you get the key from the principal to get the emergency I.D. cards so we can call the kids parents?"

((There shouldn't be a key to the cabinet with emergency information and equipment, just an alarm. So in the event of an emergency, we can quickly access the information.))

"BLS-1 to central, we're on base."

*I pull into the emergency room shut off the lights and engine, then go around back and get the stretcher out. I roll it into the emergency room, give information to the nurse, bring him into the assigned room and put him on the bed. I go out, change the sheets on the stretcher, wash my hands, and return the stretcher to the ambulance*

*I step into the cab, turn on the engine, turn on the lights, and drive back towards the school*

"BLS-1 to Central, we're returning to the school."

"Anyone need assistance?"

(Sometimes schools uses keys. I think mine does)
"Yeah Jansen, can you help Daniels get all of the card info for the kids?"

((Hey just curious, but shouldn't you have to fill out some paperwork before you leave or am i mistaken?))

((Where I'm from, and the hospitals I go to, we take the person into the emergency room. There is a nurse behind a desk that will enter information into a computer, (Vitals, complaints, name, age, etc) then they assign us a room, we bring the stretcher into the room, transfer the person from the stretcher to the bed, change the sheets on the stretcher, then leave))

"BLS-1 to COPA, we have two left at triage, one is level 'Green', the other is level 'Yellow'."

"BLS-1 to Ridgeback, if I treat the minor injury, do you want to begin working on the moderate level injury? Then all victims will have been treated."

*I roll the stretcher over to the kid with the minor injury.*

"Hey, I'm an EMT with ERT. What's the matter?" I say

"Hi, I'm Jimmy. It's getting kinda hard to breathe." He says

*I open up the jump bag and get the blood pressure cuff out, I get the stethoscope from around my neck*

"When you say "Getting", doe that mean as time passes it's getting harder?"

"No, sorry sir. I meant that I've been having trouble breathing. It's not getting any worse or better."

"Okay, let me see your arm, please."

*I take the blood pressure, and write 100/65 on the call sheet. I take the pulse, and write 75*

"Alright that's normal for somebody your age. I'm going to put you on oxygen, and take you to the hospital, alright?" I say

"Sure" He replies

*I pull the stretcher over, the boy stands up, then lays down on it. I strap him in*

*I get the oxygen and a mask* I start the oxygen flow, and put the mask around his head*

"That feel alright?" I ask

"Yeah, it's fine."

"Great."

*I roll the stretcher into the ambulance, put the jump bag in the side cabinet. I step into the cab, start the engine, turn on teh lights, and drive to the base.*

"BLS-1 to COPA, transporting one juvenile male to ERT hospital. One more at triage being treated by ALS."

"Hey guys, do you need any more help? Is everyone pretty much stabilized?"

"Yeah, just waiting for Jansen and Daniels to bring back the Emergency I.D. cards."

"Alright. If the kids are alright and don't have serious burns, I was told to take them back to their parents. Was I supposed to do that? If not, I bet some of them are still here or I could call them and tell them to go to the hospital."

*I take off my jacket and put it on the driver's seat.*

"Whoever moves that is getting a woopin!"

I get the cards back from Jansen and give it to the LT. which radio's it to DCBurke (should I have done that or should have I done it myself?)

"BLS-1 at base."

*I pull into the emergency room, shut off the lights and engine, and get out. I walk around back, open teh doors, pull the stretcher out an roll it into the ER. I give the info to the nurse, bring him into the room, change the sheets, wash my hands, and return to the ambulance.*

"BLS-1 to Central, patient in hospital care. Last victim at triage should be getting treated by ALS, would you like me to return to the scene?"

I put the victim on the stercher get him in the ambulance and hit the siren. "ALS 1 enroute to the hospital"

"Is that all of them yet?"

"BLS-1 receives your message ALS-1. Somebody on scene please confirm, all victims have been transported or released from the scene, correct?"

I arrive at the hospital go to the nurse drop him off. "ALS 1 at the hospital"

"Hey guys, when you have confirmed the scene is clear, tell me." I start to dismiss people who are not parents, students, or staff and begin interviewing people for a report.

10 min later

"Apparently, The students were doing a chemistry lab and the teacher had to use the facilities. One student decided to deliberately add a volatile chemical to his mix. The fire alarms immediately went off. His mother said he's been acting out and talking about violence lately." I handcuff him and place him in my squad car. "Dispatch, I need an EMS unit to assist in transporting a psych."

"BLS-1, we have 1 more victim, Male."I say over the radio
"Hey guys, we should probably get this tarp cleaned up. I get some disinfectant and start to wipe and spray down all of the tarp. Hey can you guys help me put this back?"
*I begin to put all of the tarp away.*

"I'll transport the boy" I say as I restock the ambulance and go to the scene code 2.

"How ya doin' Brian?"
"Good."
"Anything hurtin' you right now?"
"My skin is tingling a bit."
"Ok, I know you probably want to pee right now...do you?"
"Nah, I'm good."
"K....I'm going to give you 1 more bottle of water because I want you to drink liquids that'll make you feel better."
"Can't you give me medicine?"
"No, only the guys in the ambulance can do that and also, Water will help get your internal body back to normal. Slowly but naturally. K?"
"Alright, after this I might need to go to the bathroom."
"Alright, that's fine."
*I get up from near the boy and drink some more water myself.*

"Sorry, Yep everyone is pretty much stabilized so we'll just wait for orders"

I neatly fold the tarps and lay 'em in Squad 1. I put Pumper 11's tools back in place and go through inventory in my checkbook.
"As usual. Ok."

I check if all the tools are on the squad, they are.
After that I go to the squad, take off my jacket and grab a bottle of water.

*I take off my SCBA and put it on my seat and hook it back into it. I take off my helmet to let some light drizzle touch my head. I then sit down on the tarp waiting for Zach.*

"Received, thanks ALS-1."

"BLS-1 to COPA, we are at base, in service."


*I back BLS-1 into the bay, connect the the exhaust hose, connect the charger wire, and walk into the break room*

I wasn't in charge, so no report from me. Basically, #1, you gave patients water, which is a no-no unless they ingested something to dilute it or a few other reasons. Yeah, but you all failed that 1, which also is a mark off in my class. BLS, out of all seriousness, is not capable of taking burn victims to a hospital, because if they have burns on more than 5 or 10% of their body, their gonna want some pain relievers, and you can't give it, only medics can... Just pointing this out. It's up to Raven if he has anything to say or give a report.

"Alright, this seems to be about it guys. Let's start packin up."

*I help Hanahan with the tarp and grab some water. Then I put away the medical supplies and go and rest in the driver's seat of the squad.*
