House Fire

TVFD Pumper on scene, Tanker will arrive. LFA and Medics due

( since pumper is on medical)

* my pager goes off in the middle of class just before everyone elses'*

' umm burke? are we responding to the house fire?'

*burke* ' yes'

' sweet!'

* i hear the pumper still on the medical call and run out of the TA and into my pov, turn my lights on and back out of my spot as i pick up my mic*

" matthews to pumper 11 floan, i have my gear in my car, will be responding pov into trulit"

* i pull out of the TA with my lights and siren going and head off to trulit as i pull up the adress of the house onto my phone*

*i run to my gear pull on my boots and pull my pants up and grab my hood and throw it over my head then sling my radio strap over my shoulder, pull my coat on and climb into the drivers seat and flip the battery switch on then press the ignition button and hear the engine roar to life. i reach ubove my head and press the emergency master button and see the bay start lighting up as the lights are flashing. and wait for the rest of the crew to climb in*

( so im not first on scene)

* as i get closer to the scene i suddenly hit dead traffic on trulit road*

" matthews to copa and all units, truilit road is at a standstill, use faith road instead"

* i try to manuever out of traffic and no one moves*

" Pump-11 to COPA.....We can clear the Medical. and take on the House fire with the additional if needed. "

As I'm rolling code 1 down Trulit Interpass, I hear the tones drop and immediately flip on the lights and sirens and head for Trulit code 3.

"M5 is en route from Trulit Interpass."

*I run out of the academy and over to my car.*

'Seeya Burke, be back later!'

*I start it up and turn on my lights. I make my way to the station. After a few minutes, I arrive and park my car. I get out and run into the bay. I get my boots and pants on and jump into the squad with my jacket. I throw my helmet on the dash and start the truck. Then I put on my headset and turn on the lights.*

"Squad 1 responding to house fire, Code 3."

*I wait for everyone to get in. Then I pull out of the station, revving up the Q and blasting the air horns. I turn on the wail as I pull into traffic.*

*as i hear the rest of the doors slam and look over my shoulder seeing everyone in i pull the shift selecter to "D" and release the parking brake and pull out of the fire house as jess revs up the sirens*

"PC-3 to all units involved in house fire, will you need me for scene safety?"

I say as I pull out of the ERT Complex and onto Trulit Interpass towards Trulit.

*I pull the squad up to the house and wind down the Q.*

"Squad 1 onscene."

*I take off my headset and get out. I put on my jacket and helmet.*

"This is Squad 1 to COPA, would you like us at the hydrant or hooked up to the pumper?"

" matthews to squad, im not sure if the pumper is responding at this time"

* i pull up on scene and park in the grass a ways away from the scene*

" matthews to copa, im out at the fire"

* i pop my trunk and gear up and then walk back and lean into my car and shut off my lights, leaving only the back ones on*

* i walk up to the squad staging at the hydrant*

' hey davis, mind if i tag a long with you until the pumper arrives, if it does'

* i climb into one of the rear seats*

'Sure. You know what, we might as well hook up to the hydrant then. I'll wait for Burke.'

"Understood, I'll be taking a full post at COPA for this one once I arrive"

*I pull up after getting stuck behind idiot drivers who don't know that they should move.*

"M5 to COPA, we're on-scene."

*I grab the jump bag and get ready for casualties.*

" COPA.....Pump-11 is clear and available from the Medical. We can take on the House Fire if needed. "

(so it seems as im the only active one on the ladder >.>)
*as im weaving my way through traffic i find that some people arnt smart enough to realize that the big red truck behind them needs to come through, so after a few blast of the air horn they move and i stomp on the accelerater finally reaching open road*
"Ladder one to squad 1 leave room near the drive way im going to beach it in the yard"
*As i see us comming up on the road that the fire is on i pull the gear selecter down into 4th gear then to 3rd to slow us down enough to safely make the turn after i complete the turn i push the selecter back into drive and continue driving twords the colum of smoke that has apeared ahead of me*

* John turns the Lights and Sirens on and we pull away from the Sheriff's station. I reach behind me and pull out my turnout pants and coat. I take off my headset, throw on my Nomex and wrap it around the base of my neck. I start to put on my turnout pants. *

' Damn....Putting these things on while in here is a experiment in terror lol. '

* I eventually get them on and throw my straps on. I grab my coat put it on and start to button it up. *

" Pump-11 to Ladder 1 we are approx 8 minutes out. Please advise on status and accountability of all occupants when avalable. "

' John Speed up!. '

' Jack when we get there grab a 2" line with Brondum. John your on the entry team with me, once we are in we all stick together. Casey your with Jack on the line. '

'Alright Lieu!'
*I pull my gear on but not without a hassle and sit back down in my seat.*

*I catch a ride back to the station with the RA where I climb into my POV turn on the lights and leave the complex. I pull through the gate and get stuck in traffic with my blues going. Damn, it's times like this that make me re think the whole no siren thing.

"Anders is Approx 10 min out"

* I can feel as the Engine picks up speed, we are now Racing to the Fire. *

' Ok i didn tmean literally Nascar us there lol but if u got it then cool. '

* I put my headset back on and start making sure my gloves are still attached to my coat and my flashlight is still attached as well. *

" Pum-11 to Ladder 1 we are now 3 minutes out. "

*I still slowly roll through traffic with my blue lights going. I am able to pull into the turn lane and finally make some headway. I slowly crwal up to a stop sign at peach road and honk my horn before getting the clerance to go through. I can see the ladder just infront of me turning down Orange road.

'Gotcha floan!

*I put my coat back on and velcro it up. I strap on my bottle. I crack it open to make sure it works. i clip my mask to my coat.*

*I arrive at COPA thinking to myself the pumper boys really need some downtime, three consecutive calls, no time at the station yet*

"Units, advise of situation. DCF1, please establish a command post"

* The engine pulls onto the street and I can see the fire from where I am. *

' Ok guys its a nice size one. remember ur assignments and keep close together and for god sake watch the ceilings. '

" COPA.....Pump-11 On scene assuming command until DCF-1 arrives. "

*I pull up behind the Pumper but stay atleast 100 ft back and get out of my excursion. I throw on my jacket and gloves before walking up to the pumper to grab an air tank.

"COPA, P-11 COMM. Anders is on scene"

*I hop out and grab the 2 inch and flake it out to the front door. I try the door. it is locked.*

'Hey Im gonna need sombody to force this! *i yell back*

*I drop the nozzle and start to put on my mask*

* I open my door and climb out. I grab my air pack and throw it over my shoulders but I dont put on my mask. I grab a Halligan from under my seat and close my door. I walk over to theSquad who is assembling next to their rig. *

' Davis grab a supply line and hook up to me Im gonna run from the stand pipe over there, My guys will start with Suppression and forcable entry if you and Jansen want to handle SAR. '

* I look over at my guys who are ready at the front door to go in then i look back at Davis. *

' Well i guess i'l see u inside lol. '

* I run over to my guys and take a knee to the right of the front door. *

' Alright Mr.Colwell after you. '

* I point to the door giving him the O.K to force the door open. *

'Go ahead and charge the line!

*I pull my hood up over my mask and put my helmet on.*

(goodnight everyone. gmod me. i will be on first thing tomorrow morning.)

*I grab a pack and throw it over my shoulder. I look over as Nicholas grabs a Halligan. I go back to my truck and pull out my jumpbag and throw it over my shoulder. I Walk back to the truck and grab an axe and put it on my hammerloop. I go get by Casey and Nicholas.

'Okay, Casey you have nozzel, Nicholas you have the tool use it, I will hual the line an take med if need be. Watch above you and watch your flank, besure to have your air on before you move in, we don't know whats on the otherside. Alright lets do this!'

* I look back at Jack and laugh a bit. *

' Jack, buddy u look like ur going on a cross between an extended hiking trip and a Field medic for a Combat unit lolol. Lose some of the gear troop. throw the ALS bag over there we will more than likely not be treating patients in the house we will bring them out lol. '

* ok guys mask up. lets get this done. *

*I look at all the gear I have straped and hung on me a give alittle chuckle. I take off the bag and set it over closer to the sidewalk in the front yard. I walk back up to the door and start my air flowing.

'Alright, now I'm ready.'

*as im pulling up on the house i see the engine starting to flake their line. i pull the gear selecter down and rapidly slowing the speed of the truck as the q winds down i pull past the driveway and angle my self accross the street put the truck in reverse and back into the drive way until both of my back wheels are on the drive way but there is still enough room to pull ground ladders out of the back. i put the truck in neutral and pull the parking brake and hop out and run around the outside of the truck putting the steel plates on the ground for the out riggers then i run to the back of the truck and move the outriggers out hearing the familer warning beeps of them extending out and then down and lifting the rear of the truck slightly then i run to the drivers seat put it in pump gear and pull the drive selecter to "D". then i run to the back of the truck open the ladder compartment and pull out a 28 ft extention ladder. (assuming this is a 2 story residence) and run around to side charlie with it and throw it up agains the side of the house and extend it up to the 2nd story window and pull it out to a good climbing angle then i run back to the truck grab another extention ladder and throw it on side C and then i throw one to the second story window on the brovo and delta sides of the building. I grab the lapel mic on my portable and radio the conditions ive found on side C*
"ladder 1 to OIC the fire apears to be on the second floor and is blowing out of the rear of the building. ill be moving to the roof to cut a vent hole over the fire area"
*i move to the drivers compartment and grab an SCBA and throw it over my back and prepare to go to the roof to cut a hole*

"Understood, advise of more when cleared"
(Is Luckenbach active? If not, I've gotta make some serious draftings!)

(havnt seen him in a while..)
*i jog back to the compartment over the rear wheels on the drivers side and pull the cutters edge out and start it up run it for a few seconds then shut it off. then i climb up onto the turn table and i raise the stick up and swing it around so that its over the pitch of the roof and lower it so that its just above the roof, i grab a hallogan and an axe and make my way up the ladder to the top and stop i drive the pick of the hallogan into the roof and set the saw agains it so it doesnt fall then i grab the roof ladder that is mounted to the side of the stick and put the hooks down and lay it down on the roof and yank down on it hard sinkin the hooks into the ridge of the roof i sound the roof as i climb up the roof ladder and then i start my saw up and cut a 4x4 hole ubove where i think the fire is on the front side of the house then i climb back down onto the stick and set the saw down and grab my axe and the 6 ft hook thats mounted on the stick and climb back up the roof ladder all the while sounding the roof and i grab my radio and say*
"interior crews watch for vent"
*i take the head of the axe and beat a good bit of it in but it splits just out side of my reach with the axe so i take the hook and knock the rest in and climb back down onto the stick and back down onto the turn table*
"Ladder 1 to OIC ventalation on the roof is complete will start venting the windows around the sides of the house"

" floan, im with the squad crew now, do you want me to join your crew and pull a back up line or?? also upon the 360, fire is mostly in the rear of the house, 1st and 2nd floors"

( ok we really need to find out who is with what. Burke told me last night that you are still with me for now. this is reallybecoming confusing as hell. )

" Unerstood fire is mostly on the rear of the house, we are entering the structure now. Continue wth the squad and pull an Exterior 2" line to the rear and attack with Jansen and davis. BREAK Pump-11 Command to Ladder 1 Continue Roof venting operations we will be on the 2nd floor as soon as we enter the structure. "

* I watch as Colwell uses the halligan to pop the door. We are immediatly greeted with Heavy smoke and the old familiar orange tint of fire in the background somewhere in the house. I enter the structure keeping VERY low to the ground until im able to see better. I notice the ceiling is completly in tact so i stand up and finally start looking around for any signs of comprimise from the 2nd floor. Jack, Casey and Brondum all enter the building followed by Colwell. The smoke begins to lift and I take off my mask. *

' Alright guys Casey, Jack and Nick. Head to the 2nd floor and start hitting the fire, John.....U and I will search this floor for any potential victims. '

*I take the pumper out of gear and quickly put my turn-out gear and an SCBA on and run up to the front door with Floan.*

'Ok Floan I'm ready.'

*I force the door and move aside as everyone passes me.*

'Sounds good Lt. Lets go!'



(Sorry been really busy. Been running calls nonstop all weekend!)

'Okay we will be on the second if you need us.'

* I walk behind Brondum draging the line. We come to the stairs and I stay at the bottom flaking the line so it we can get the stiff line upstairs.

"Anders to Brondum, do you have contact upstairs?"

" understood floan"

* i grab a pack off of the squad and throw it on my back and take my mask and hook it up to the regulator and start to pull a 2" line*

* i drag it around the back of the house and see smoke coming from the eves of the house on the second floor and fire making a somewhat large hole in the back of the house*

* i start to open the nozzle and start to pour water onto the hole*

* John and I start to search room after room for any occupants. I come across 2 cats which are lying on the ground motionless. *

' Sh-t.....John Grab the cats and take them outside to the medics give them some o2 and rub their chests. Dont ask me how I know that ok. '

" Pump-11 Command Interior to Pump-11 Anders.......Negative Contact with any occupants on the 1st floor. Check for occupants on the 2nd BREAK. Pump-11 Command to Squad 1....When PFD Tender arrives connect up with the Tender and save the pressure. this hydrant more than likely will nto hold 2 lines of pressure for very long."

"P-11 Anders copies command."

*I walk up the stairs following the hose as the smoke up here is alot thicker then at the base of the stairs. I reach the top where the other two are. Casey is at the nozzle spraying down the ceiling while Nicholas holds the line. I go to tap Nicholas on the shoulder.

'Nicholas, I will take lineman, after Casey gets this ceiling down I want tou to start overhauling it so we don't get a relight.'

*I take up the lineman position and take the weight of the hose from Casey as he continues to knock down the fire. I can see just enough that we are in hallway with 6 doors 3 on each side.

'Casey, when you are sure you have this hallway knocked down move to the first door on the right, okay?'

"P-11 Anders to vent crew, can you knock out the windows to the Alpha side for us?"

" Pump-11 Interior Command to All units on scene....1st floor is clear. No occupants found. "

* I start to make my way upstairs. Heavy fire is everywhere it seems, I look up and see the ceiling is comprimised as well. I find Jack and Casey. *

' Hey guys above us doesnt look good at all, we need to find these victims. nobody is sure if they are home or not but still we need to check there are 4 of them. Nick, Keep on the line with Casey Jack and I are gonna start to search for the family. '

*I kick in the door. More fire comes out. I pencil along the ceiling, push it down to the walls and make Z,O, and 8 patterns.*

'looks like we got it probie. next room.

" matthews to floan, i didnt see any cars in the driveway, possible they arnt home"

* i notice some flames die away so i start to move around when heavy fire spits back out of the hole*

" floan, also be advised, on the second floor, B/D corner, heavy fire in that room, may be fueled by something, i have water flowing in now, let me know when you enter so i can shut it down BREAK matthews to davis or jansen, has the tanker arrived yet to establish an adequet water supply"

" Interior Copies Matthews, Pump-11 to ladder 1 Vacate Roof Immediatly. "

* I look over at Casey who is starting to hit the next room. *

' CASEY, over here. '

* I move both of my hands showing him I want this next room that Matthews spoke about to be hit next. *

' Watch out there may be a source on the other side. '

* I put my mask on and let air flow to it then prepare to take the door. I get a tap on my back and see the TVFD engine crew next to me, the LT. asks for his men to take the door and I step aside to let him. *

' Hey guys this is their area we will back them up. no need to get into a measuring contest here. '

* The LT. Pops the door and his men head in I motion for my guys to follow in when i feel a sudden rumble and then see 2 of the 3 men Dissapear through the floor. 1 of them men turns around and grabs for me I get a hold of him and attempt to stop my fall through the floor with 1 arm. *

' AHHHHH S--T. JACK, CASEY HELP HELP HELP.... Im gonna fall. '

* i see some water and steam come through the room so i shut my line down and set it down and take a walk back to the front of the house and see the TVFD tanker roll up*

' hey guys, want to set up your dump tank here, and fill it and we will draft out of the squad and have the pumper give the squad what they can from the hydrant back there'

* the two guys get out and i help them pull the dump tank out and set it up in front of the squad and get a short piee of hard suction off of the tanker and attach it to the front suction of the squad and put a strainer on the end and dump it into the dump tank as the tanker fills it up and leaves to go re fill*

" matthews to all units, squad is set up for primary pumper, and tanker relay is set up"

((Sorry guys, I'm a one man show haha))

*I pull some hard suction off the truck and and drop it in the dump tank. I go over and turn on the pump and begin filling the squad. Then I grab some 5" hose and run it from the squad to the pumper. I charge the line and get out my SCBA.*

"Squad 1 to P11, you guys have water. I'm drafting from the tank and you're connected."

*I put on my mask and grab some irons. I head over to the house and head inside.*

"Davis to P11, I'm starting SAR. Advise if you need me anywhere else."

* I dangle holding onto a piece of flooring that has fallen away with the firefighter from the Vol. dept on my other hand I look down and see that there is only about 5 feet for him to fall and I dont see any other obstructions below him other than a few pieces of wood. *

' Hey buddy Look down im gonna drop u there. it isnt far and I will be right behind you but i cannot hold on much longer. '

* The fireman looks down and gives me a Nod. I let go of him and see him fall down onto his feet then roll to his side. I look up then Let myself go. The fall seems like forever until I hit the ground. I land and immediatly lose my breath. after what seems like an eternity I am finally to catch my breath and I look around. I have landed in a Dining room and fire from the 2nd floor has now reached the 1st floor. I see the Vol. guy holding his ankle and laying on his side. *

" MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY, Firefighters down...Dining room of the house, Structure is comprimised say again MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY Firefighters down Structure is comprimised, All units on scene assist in rescue. We are in the Dining area of the house, we have fallen from the 2nd floor down approx 3 firefighters down unknown status on 2 of them. "

*I hear Floan's transmission and immeadiatly respond.*

"Davis to Floan, copy. I'm on my way!"

*I run through the hallway and into the dining room. I see Floan and the other firefighter. I also see another firefighter who seems to be ok.*

'Floan, are you alright? What's up?'

* I lay there for a second and see Chuck come running in. *

' Yea im ok i think, check that one out '

* I point to the firefighter laying on his side motionless. I struggle to stand but eventually get to my feet. I stagger for a second and then fall baack down. I look over at the Vol. guy that i let go and he is still holding his ankle. I crawl over to him and take his mask off. *

' Dude we gotta get out of here this building is not gonna stand much more of this. SAVE YOUR AIR. dont use it all up. Can you crawl??? '

* He nods yes and i help him to his knees and push his ass to get him going. *

' Just keep going dammit dont stop until ur out. '

* I lay back down not understanding why it is hard for me to get my strength. *
