EMAIL MEETING - All Truck Officers and Supervisors included

To: All Truck and unit supervisors.

We will currently be updating the COPA call board, which previously was a white board with three boxes for each unit. On scene, in service and out of service. We will be switching to a web based system, and unit supervisors will be expected to update their unit on a regular basis, so calls can be dispatched accordingly. For police units, each officer will be given their vehicle and be expected to update. This will be simply for out of character reasons.

I need this for keeping track, so I know who needs a call, etc. Site will be uploaded soon

Oh god no, it's still in early phases, and by early, means I have mostly everything, just one small problem. I can't figure out how to link it all to work together...

I have a radio box choice list, one for each unit, In Service, Out of Service, Active Call, which when one is selected, it will change a picture, from a red square, to a blue square, to a green square, depending on service status. This is in turn linked with a password box, each unit having it's own password, given only to the webmaster (me) and the unit officer.

They'd select their status, enter the password, then hit go. This would update the unit picture color

The way it is now, is a choice will set a value to either -1, 0 or 1. The picture checks the value, and sets accordingly, each number corresponding to a color. This would be fine, except it HAS to be tied to a password, which makes my way, complicated as it was before, even more complicated, that it has to check a password before hand.

Any suggestions how to fix this, or an alternative way would be appreciated

The best idea I have is having each unit's web address be only known by the unit officer. If I knew any good ideas, I'd make a demo. Like have it be /traffic1_10402 or something random. Then have the color changing unit pic on a main page for dispatchers to see.

would everyone be able to see what units are in service ect?

The only thing with that, is it's ore work, sinec each page has to then affect another page, still more work, and if someone gets booted off, I need to redo the entire ssytem, instead of change a password

Couldn't you make one password for all Officers and Supervisors? Then change it if someone leaves,etc.

I suppose you're right. I was assuming you could copy the page to a new pin(last digits) and delete the old, but it depends on how you program it. Sorry, just throwing out ideas.

Hmm, good plan.. Have a password access page, and then the options in there... I like
