    Post by D.McGuire Tue Feb 01, 2011 5:25 pm

*I pull up a few yards down the road, leaving the engine and ladder room to pass and park ahead of us. I engage the parking brake, throw on the jacket and helmet, grab a portable and step out.*

*I walk around the rear of the cottage where I see smoke, and there is a fully involved, large shed.*

"RA-1 on scene, one story, large shed fully involved, in the rear of the property. Nobody is around at this time, we'll attempt to locate the caller if they're on the property."

*I begin walking to the front door, as I approach it, I hear it unlock, open, and a lady walks out*

'Sorry, I got something on the stove, I just had to turn it off. she says

'Oh, now worries. You reported that you saw a man on fire?'

'Yeah, we hired him him to come plow our driveway, he may have been inside when it started, I don't know. I wasn't paying attention to what he was doing. All I know is a started smelling the smoke, and I checked out back and he was running towards the lakes with his leg on fire.'

'Alright, any idea which of the lakes he went to?'

'Yeah, I tried chasing him, but I couldn't keep up. All I know is he went down our private trail about a mile, than he ran off the trail to the right towards one of the lakes, I'm sorry that's all I know.'

'McGurie to Squad 1, I have the caller here, she reports he went about a mile down their private trail, then he went off the trail to the right. If you need anymore I have caller h in the front yard'

'I'll get the info now...I'm heading inside.'
*The owner walks out and walk to greet her.*
'Hi ma'am, I'm Firefighter Davis and we have reports of a shed fire here?
'Yes, it's back that way through the trees.' *She points directly behind me.*
'Ok thanks. We also heard about a running man with his leg on fire...running towards a pond...'
'Oh yes, I caught a glipms of something bright in the distance as I was calling...it was running towards the pond to the right of the shed.' *She points a little farther right of the direction of the shed.*
'OK, thanks very much. I'll get our men here to put out the fire.'
*She stays outside and watches me as I walk back to the truck.*

'Ok guys, I just spoke with the owner and she said the shed is directly behind the house in the forest and she did she a moving light towards the pond to the right of the shed.'
"Burke, would you like us to look for the man near the lake?"

    'I'll keep looking.'
*I hear the cry too and it gets louder until I find a pair of pance on the ground.*
    'Hey, can anyone here me?'
'Yes...I can see your light...over here!'
*I keep walking forward and I see a man lying against a tree with no pance on.*
'Hi, I'm Firefighter Davis. How's your leg?'
'Thanks. It was on fire and it burns...still...I had to take off my pants before my whole leg was burnt off.'
    'Alright...let me see.'
*I take a look at his leg and I find some 1st degree burns on his upper thighs and 2nd and some sleight 3rd degree burns on his lower left leg.*
'OK, you have some burns here on both legs, mainly your left. We'll get some paramedics here to take care of those for you.'

*I stand up, reach for my radio, and press the talk button.*
'Davis to Wilt, tell the guys at RA-1 that he has burns to his left and right legs. I'll walk back a little bit to where you turned around and guide you the rest of the way.'

"Copt that" I say as I run around and pull out the pads for the out-riggers. I then go to the controls and extend then drop the plates of the riggers and take the control of the ladder. I raise it a few feet and angle it to the structure to be ready for the line charge. I lock it in plcae and step down to put on an SCBA but skip on the mask until I ask "Hannahan need some help on the second line?" I then pull my mask down and start air flow.

"Advise if you need a second transport"
(also, the tank is about 700 gallons, that thing can pump about 3000 in a minute, so you would've emptied the tank in about 10 seconds if it was a hose and the aerial monitor. If not, then you had one minute on two hoses)

"10-4 Squad 1, we'll meet you at the edge of the property."

"RA-1 to L51, negative, we're going to be tied up with this victim that search just found. If you find a second just see if COPA can send an ALS."

*I walk to the back of RA-1, open the doors, pull out the stretcher, shut the doors, then wheel it to the edge of the property near the trail start.*

    ((We're already there))

*I greet Squad 1 as they come up the path, I assist them loading him on the stretcher, then I wheel the stretcher into to the back of RA-1, open the doors, and load the stretcher, I jump in and shut the doors, open up the jumpbag and check vitals, while Cory prepares to treat the burn.*
