Attempted Suicide at City Hall

"Doug, need some help?"

((I'll have some news soon when we head to the new site too. )

"Rescue 1 to COPA, subject has been freed and is on the seventh floor for EMS to handle. Can we clear?"
*I get all the components of the z rig together and bring it to the seventh floor and watch EMS do their thing until we get cleared.*
(I got school so if we're cleared, go ahead and get us out of here guys. I may not be able to do much until tomorrow.)

I apply the C-Collar and watch as someone grabs the backboard.
'He may have a brain injury also as I reach over and check his pupil's or he may be high, which are pinpoint. Also we need to get vitals before we make it back to the truck.'

'You need help with anything here guys?'
*I say adjusting the zrig bag on my shoulder.*

'Nah, I think we got it Daniels. Thank you though.'

*As Jeffrey puts on a collar, I get O2 and a mask out of the jumpbag. I connect the tub to the tank, then let the bag on t he mask inflate. Then I pull the strap over the back of the patients head, then carefully place the mask over his nose and mouth.*

'Kelly can you grab the EKG and the backboard? Let's just get that stuff dealt with now, I'll deal we can deal with IV's and all in the ambulance. I just wanna get him out right now so we can transport.'

*I pack up all my gear and get ready to leave the scene*

"Ladder 1 to COPA, Show us available, returning."

*I walk out and jump in the ladder and roll back to the station.*

'thinking the same.'

*I go out to the stretcher, pick up the ekg and the back baord, then carry both into the room and place them on the floor by the patient. I go back out and get the chart, then come back in.

I hook up the leads to the patient and look at the rhythm.
'Hmm tachycardic just what I thought'
*I grab the bp cuff and put it around his right arm*
'Blood pressure, 90/65; pulse, 125; respirations, 12; Pulse ox on room air 85%. Pulse ox on 15 liters non-rebreather; 96%. We need to get some fluids to get his pressure up pretty fast. Lets go to the box'

(i know, i meant 'out' as in out to the stretcher which was left in the hallway outside the room were in lol)

*I write down the vitals on the chart, and right in additional info that can be filled in (times, injuries and all)

'Yep, sounds good.'

*I turn to Kelly*

'Bring the stretcher in and then we'll get him on the backboard and load him'

*Kelly goes out and rolls the stretcher in. She pulls the lever on the side to drop it down, then she comes over to the backbord*

*I slide the backboard next to the patient.*

'Turn him on 3, I'll move the backboard under, then let him down on 3. 1, 2, 3.'

*We turn him on his side. I slide the backboard under him, then on the next count of 3, we gently lay him down. We take the bag of straps and buckles and all, then strap and tape accordingly.*

*Kelly pulls the stretcher over next to the board.*

'Lift on 3. 1, 2, 3.'

*We lift the backboard and place it down on the stretcher. We buckle all of the belts and tighten them. We move to our ends of the stretcher, and I look up at Kelly.*

'Ha, one more time. 1, 2, 3.'

*We lift the stretcher. I pull the lever to make the wheels drop, they lock, and we let the wheels come down to the ground. I put the O2 tank, chart, and EKG on the stretcher. I pack up the jumpbag and throw it over my shoulder. We roll the stretcher out of the room. As I exit, I look back and make sure nothing was left, and we continue out. I push the call button for the elevator. We pile into the elevator, and take it down to the ground level. We roll it out of the building. We get to the ambulance and stop the stretcher by the back door. I open side door, then put the jumpbag on the ground, and the chart on the bench. I walk back outside, and open the two rear doors. I roll it into the back until it locks on, then I hold it up and pull the lever. Kelly picks the wheels up, I let go of the lever and roll the stretcher in until it locks into place. I step in with everybody and shut all of the doors. I key up my radio*

"EMS-1 to PD at city hall, you going to need anything on the patient? We'll be here for a few, then we want to get him out of here sooner rather than later."

'Alright I'm going to establish a line, see if that will get any reaction out of him'

I sit down on the bench seat and grab his left arm and lay it across my leg. I grab a tourniquet out of the IV caddie and wrap it around the upper part of his arm. A vein pop's up and I wipe the spot down with an alcohol prep pad. Grab an 18 guage and stick it in his Left AC and it flashes. I apply a tegaderm and I pull the catheter out and put the flush in and make sure I'm in the vein. I see that I'm in the vein and I pull the flush out and leave the saline lock in.

'Can one of y'all spike a bag for me?'

*I take the bag and turn it upside down. I take the catheter, remove the cap, then push and twist it into the bag. I flip teh bag right side up again, and hang it from the roof of the ambulance.*

'Got the IV started, we're good for transport. Guess who's driving as usual Kelly?'

*I take the keys out of my pocket and toss them to Kelly*

*i catch the keys with both hands.*

'Thank you.'

*i get out the side door, then get in the drivers seat. I put the keys in then put it in drive. then pick up the radio*

"EMS-1, transporting 1 to ERT hospital."

(I don't think anyone said this yet)
"Rescue 1, we're available returning to station."

*I take his vitals again and check for painful stimuli*
BP:102/68; HR: 110; RR:16; Pulse Ox: 96% on 15 LPM
I give him a sternum rub and he is sluggish but try's to come to.
'Not really much we can do for him I guess I will call into the hospital.'

Me: "ERT Medic 1 to Hospital ER"
Nurse: "Medic 1 go ahead"
Me: "Medic 1 in bound to your facility with a 25 to 30 year old male. Pt jumped off of a 10 story building and got caught on something on the 8th floor. Pt with positive loss of consciousness and is starting to come out of it. Pt has a couple small abrasions and lacerations. Pt is back boarded, C-Collared. IV is established in left AC running an IV bag bolus. Patient was sluggish when I did a sternum rub. We have given him 60ml of fluid . Pt's recent vitals are BP:102/68; HR: 110; RR:16; Pulse Ox: 96% on 15 LPM. GCS:8; RTS:9. ETA 5 minutes any other questions or order's?"
Nurse: "no questions room assignment on arrival"
Me: "Medic 1 clear"

((Normally the paramedics would actually do that, not the observer lol but ok))
