Cabin Fire

Hello ERT COPA
"Hi, this is Forest Ranger Lewis, we're getting reports of a cabin fire, you're gonna need teams out there, two stories. I'm on my way over, but I'm about ten minutes out. I expect your men will be just as long if not longer on that dirt road. I'll send along the information I just received regarding it"
"Thanks Lewis, I'll have my crews there ASAP"

*I see a dirt road and go up it and find the house matching the descpription and park in front of the house*

"COPA, RA-1 on scene, no flames and light smoke showing. Standby for and update"

'Cory. I'm going in'

*I get on my SCBA*

"RA-1 to all responding units, light smoke showing"

"Squad-1 RA-1, remain outside the structure at this time not enough personnel on scene for safety." I say. "Squad - 1 ETA 6 minutes."

((Slow down man))

" Pump-11 to OSC Raven, we are still approx 7 minutes out. When you guys get on scene can you advise on our staging area please. "

* As casey picks up speed in the Engine we start o weave ina nd out of the traffic that will never seem to freaking pull over. I take my headset off and slip on my Nopmex around my neck. I dont pull it over my head instead I put my headset back on. *

' Ok guys, Jack, Eli grab a 2 1/2 " Line, Casey start a supply line and run a secondary 2" Line Uncharged in case of Exterior exposures. I will take a Tool in, This is a Wood cabin guys so everybody have their Axes ready in case of the very real possibility of entrapment. We all go intogether and come out together. Jack Once we are inside Im giving u the Engine command you tell us where to go and what to do. ( You decide if this is a test or not MUAHAHAHA ) I'll support our efforts on the line with Eli. Casey your outside on this one. '

* I sit in the Sqaud and start to get ready as we head towards the scene. *

' Cpt. Where are you gonna need me at? '

'Okay I gotcha Floan'

*I watch as we enter the long dirt road and casey slows down. I start to pull on my SCBA as we all bounce around i the truck. I think of all the thing I need to know, and I need to lead the team to success at this fire. I also think of all the things that can go wrong.

*I jump in the Squad for my first time and start packing up.*

'You want me to catch the hydrant Cap?'

The squad comes to a stop near the front of the property. Colwell gets out and makes the hydrant. I switch seats and drive the other 200 feet to the house, thick smoke is billowing from the eves and flames are starting to pour from the back. I position the truck near the side of the building. "Stanley pack up and grab a line, take it behind the house. Start fire suppression ops."

"Pumper 11, pull up and open up with the deck gun. and pull lines."
"Ladder 1, you'll need to use extension ladders there isn't enough room to deploy your tower."
"RA-1 start Search ops."

* I hear the radio squake back with our stage point. I watch as we drive past John and stop to let him hop on and ride to the squad. I feel the bounce and smake my head on the top of the cab as we ride down the road.

*masking up, I feel the adrenaline from my first real run (or at least, that I get to go through with lol). I check my straps, watching Jack bounce around, feeling a few pretty hard bumps myself*

'Gotcha Lieu! 2.5" line, yer backin' me up. We goin' interior or defensive?' I ask, thinking about what the Squad said about the deck gun.

'What do you need me to do Lieutenant?'
*I strap my air pack on.*

' Got it Cap. '

* I tighten my straps on my SCBA and climb out. I walk over to get a hoseline and Pull a 3" I head around to the back of the house, drop to a Knee and start setting a line on the highest Exposure showing smoke. *

"COPA.....Pump-11 On Scene. "

' No Eli we're going inside, casey is handling the exterior as wellas the squad i believe. '

* As the Engine comes to a stop outside the structure I take my headset off and step out i grab my portable and my cover. I see the rest of my crew get out and assume their duties. *

' Nick grab a Pike and a Halligan and follow us on it, im gonna get with raven for a second. '

*as the air brakes release with a hiss, I pop open my door and step out, pulling my tank out as I stand. I reach the pump panel, and step up on the running board there. I reach for the nozzle for the 2.5" pre-connect, and put it into my chest, turning, and stack a few lengths of the heavy hose on my shoulder. I step off the running board, towards the house, feeling the weight of the hose trying to hold me back. I put in a little more effort, and start running towards the house, seeing the smoke.*

'Lieu! Where do you want me to set this baby up?!'

*As the pump rolls to a stop I jump out with my SCBA on I put on my mask and roll up my nomex. I tighten up the straps and put on my helmet. I can see the black smoke billiowing out of the windows. I watch Eli pull a two and a half and I walk behind him with the axe I grabed off of the truck.

"P-11 Anders to OSC, do we have any reports from SAR?"

'Okay Eli, lets stage at the door and wait for Floan and Nicholas, you take nozzel.

" Pump-11 Command to Pump-11 babcock set up At the front door but dont breach yet we're all going in together. "

' Hey Ewan, i'll keep u posted inside. '

* I walk back to the crew who are starting to assemble at the front door. I put my Nomex over my head and get my Halligan out, I still dont mask myself up yet until the rest of the people are ready to go in. *

' Ok guys remmeber we dont know if there are people inside yet so be very cautious about your movements but very agressive in your attack, jack if we find somebody bring them out but remember RA will be in here too so if they are close give the person to them to take out. '

* I get the line to the front door, stop, drop to my knees, and take my helmet off. I set it on the ground, and put my mask on. I suck in hard to get the regulator flowing, take a couple breaths to check, and put my hood up over my mask. I pick up my hemet, securing it on my head. I grab my gloves and put them on, then pick up my line again, holding the nozzle in my left hand, grabbing the line about a foot back with my other hand.*

'Ready Cap!'

'#2 is ready'

*I grab the line after falling to my knees and starting my mask on air. I turn on my heal light and grasp my axe in my right hand holding the line with me left. I wait for the Lt. to tap my shoulder sending me forward into the dark ouse. I can already feel the heat on my neck.

"Negative no SAR reports. I'm seeing flames now from the second story side 1." I say and grab a 2 1/2 and coil it then start assaulting the fire.

"10-4"

*I follow behind the Pumper guys until I come to what apears to be a kitchen*

'Be safe guys'

*I split off and go to the kitchen*

"I see what started the fire it appears to be a burner caught a oven mit on fire"

*I flip it off*

( Crap I didnt want to go in already but ok. )

* I walk forward putting my mask on as I go and come to the stairs leading to the 2nd floor. *

" Pump-11 command to OSC Raven we have heavy smoke throughout the 1st floor of the house, We need Ladder 1 to Ventilate through the windows and Doors, I would advise against Roof ops at this time until we get a better idea of the 2nd floor. "

((Botfish, if a house is on fire, and there are flames/heavy smoke on the second floor, the fire wouldn't have started from an oven mit, if it did the oven mitt would not exist any longer. Please use common sense and PAY ATTENTION. ))

"I've got ladder-1 incoming with extensions they're going to vent out the second floor.

" Pump-11 Copies OSC BREAK Pump-11 Command to Pump-11 Van Der Water take the uncharged line and start suppressing the 2nd floor Exterior exposures. We're gonna make our way upstairs. "

' Ok Jack this is all yours i'll follow your lead starting right now. '

* I back off from the lead position and hand off to Anders. *

((when did we enter? I was just at the doorway))

'Okay...BREATH... Eli get ready on the...BREATH... nozzel. Watch your ceilings...BREATH...and keep the fire infront of...BREATH...us.'

*I tap Eli on the shoulder to signal him to move forward up the stairs. I notice it is one of the stubourn ones wit the piviot landing. I signal for Floan to take the hose and feed it around the bend for us. we come to the top floor where a door seals the the stairway from the upstairs halway.

'Okay Eli, when you are ready'

(sorry guys, with the confusion, I was waiting... waited too long... sorry again)

*breathing hard, I pull the line up to the top of the stairs, where, from the hallway, I can see a pretty heavy orange glow towards the back of the house. With Jack feeding the line from the stairs, I get a good position a few feet down the hallway. I open up the line, on a narrow fog stream, and shoot down the hallway. I notice the glow disipate a good amount, so I shut it back down.*

'More line Jack! *Breath* I need more line!'

((No worries now no more OOC))

I keep pulling line around the corner as I feel it shudder from the water flow coming out of it. I watch as the orange glow fades in my headlight. I grab a section of hose and pull it up the rest of the stairs then meet Eli at the top.

'Okay, lets start some search ops quick. keep an eye out on the ceilings.'

*I look around and see 5 doors. two on the left, two on the right, and one at the end of the hall. I see the on closest to us has the door already cracked with smoke pouring out.

( Ok guys lets slow it down. i dont want another mistake like I did the other day. it isnt even 8 hours yet and we are already looking for the heart of the fire. )

* I start to follow Eli up the stairs towrds the 2nd floor, keeping a close eye on the Ceiling and surroundings. *

*I wait at the top of the stairs, looking to the Lieutenant for direction, my pulse thumping loudly in my ears*

* As I get to the top of the stairs I see a very bright glow from the hallway. Heavy smoke blankets the entire hallway, I look to my left and see the same door Jack is talking about. I start heading for that door, I open it the rest of the way but with the amount of smoke in the room it is still impossible to see what is what. *

' Jack im going in to search. '

* I drop to my knees and start crawling through the smoke and what i realize if also debris to start a victim search. The smoke is so thick I eventually hit my head on a wall I start feeling my way up the wall untiL i come to what looks to be a window. I take my halligan and break the hell out of it immediatly evacuating the smoke in the room, As the smoke clears I notice a pair of what looks to be Feet under a Bed. I grab for them and pul it out but discover it was a large *** PlayDoll ***. I shake my head in disgust realizing hwat in the hell I just grabbed. At that point the room is clear enough to see in so I stand up and walk out slowly towards Jack and Eli. *

' Jack Room 1 is clear lets press forward. '

*After moving through the kitchen a bit I still harrdly see anything. I find a locked door but remember I don't have my tools*

'CRAP!'

"RA-1 Botfish, I found a locked door but don't have any tools."

*I turn the hydrant on and watch the hose fill with water all of the way up the hill. I run up the hill after it and run over to Raven.*

'Where do you want me now Cap?'

'okay, Lt.'

'Eli lets keep going nothing here, lets check the room across the hall.'

*I take my gloved hand and feel the door knob, it is cool and it apears to be clear on the otherside. I carefully open it in acrountched position and check inside. I look in and see three people. Two women in there thirties and one fortyish year old man. they are all croutched in a cornerin a smokeless room.



'Floan I havve three greens!'

"All teams, please report status"

"COPA, i'm doing search ops"

*I go outside and grab my tools then go back inside and open the door and find another man*

"Another green here. Send all the greens to the RA and if possible please send me a medic for support" (Since Cory isn't active)

*I take the man out to the RA*

"I can request a support team from TVFD, eta 17 minutes, they'll be responding in POVs since majority is four wheel drive. roughly 4-6 Paramedics and EMTs can be expected."

" Pump-11 Command to COPA....We have 3 Greens that are being brought out at the moment. Heavy smoke anf Rie still exists throught the 2nd floor with Heavy smoke on the 1st floor. BREAK. Pump-11 Command to Ladder 1 Do no tVentilate through the roof, Roof at this time is unstable. We are still searching for source at the moment. "

' Jack Lead the people out of the house and to thr RA. Then get back inside. '

* I advance forward with Eli. We come up to 2 rooms both of which's doors are shut. I walk to the doors and touch both of them they are Both Hotter than hell and the Knobs are both quite hot. *

' Ok Eli here we go get that line over here. '

* I take my Halligan and put it between the Lock on the 1st door. I gently knudge it into the Door jam then standing to the left of the door I lean back on the tool and pop the door. a Flash of fire shoots out of the door and immediatly runs the ceiling I duck down and Eli does the same before starting to hit the Flames. *

' Eli knock them down, Focus on that ceiling, when its donw start on the room but DONT ENTER IT YET we need to make sure everything is at least decent before we go inside. '

'Floan, you need me to pop the next door?'

' Nick no not yet, I want you with me, while Eli hits the fir you and I are gonna search the room for victims. we'll take it 1 room at a time ok nobody will pop any doors here until we have found a source. '

* Eli starts to hit the fire as I get ready to enter the room. *

( Remember everybody please read the posts to catch up so we dont have any wild ass posts lol. )

*kneeling, I hit the fire in the room high, hoping to upset the thermal balance and knock the fire down enough to get the guys into the room on a search. After a few moments, the fire seems to have receeded a fair amount, 'at least enough to get the Lieu and Nick in,' I think.*

'Alright Lieu! *breath* you should be good! *breath* I'll keep her pinned *breath* while you make your search!' I holler through my mask.

' Got it Eli thx, ok nick lets go inside. '

* I go down to all fours and start crawling through the Smoke waving my Halligan slowly in front of me as I go. *

' Nick, If you find somebody let me know, Once its safe to stand then by all means stand up, im gonna start looking around for a source we still have not yet figured it out. '

* I start looking around and still find nothing. the smoke begins to clear and I look up to see Blackened sheetrock with what seems to be a large hole in it. *

' Son of a bitch I wonder......'

" Pump-11 Command to OSC Raven We cannot find a source in here so far but there is rain in the area or at least ther ewas when we were coming up, I wonder if this was a lightning strike, is there any evidence of it on the Exterior "

' ELI HIT THE CEILING. '

* I point at the ceiling and have him shoot a stream through it trying to blow out any sheetrock that may be in the way. I take my Halligan and start to pull down more and more of the ceiling exposing some VERY Blackened Truss's *

*I take off my SCBA*

'Sir, does anything hurt.'

Man: No, just a little hard to breath *Cough*

'Ok,'

*I give him oxygen and take his vitals, his breathing is low and his heart rate is just above normal*

"Floan, report on structure." I say, keeping the water flowing on the windows.

(That's backwards, I thought pumper was the agreed suppression team Oh well, must've misread)

"TVFD Reports that they will be able to send two guys, one a medic, the other an EMT to your scene within 2 minutes, they've got a cabin up the road. They'll have their gear and be usable wherever you need

" Pump-11 command to OSC Raven, Everything aboutthis so far to me indicates a Lightning strike. there are Heavily Damaged Ceiling trusses and a large Hole in the Roof visible from the 2nd story rooms. Heavy smoke and fire still exists however Progress is being made. Will advise further. "

"Roger that Floan, make one last sweep of the house and pull out." I say

" Interior Copies OSC. "

' Ok Nick, Pull out of the Room. '

" Pump-11 Command to Pump-11 Anders Once you get the people out, Stay out we're gonna sweep the house againthe n pull out. "

* I start backing out of the room and Notice Eli still hitting the Fire. I head over to him and kneel next to him. *

' Eli im gonna open this last door, hit the fire hard then we're backing out on Orders from OSC. '

* I head over to the other door and simply kick the shit out of it. the Door flies open and Fire is all along the walls and ceiling. I shake myhead knowing this isnt gonna be good. *

' Eli hit it here, Nick stay on the Line With Eli im going in to check for anybody. '

'Got it Lieutenant.'
*I move over behind Eli as Floan opens the door. Flames burst out off of the celling. Eli looks back at me.*
'Go Eli, get in there!'

* I head on in and start throwing things around looking for any signs of life. I check the closet and find nothing, i checkunder the bed and nothing at all. the Floor shows no signs of anybody on it so I back out. I head out and rejoin my crew. *

' Back out, Back out , lets get the hell out of htis house right now. '

" Interior Command to OSC wPump-11 coming out +3. "

*I motion for the three in the corner to get up and follow me. I diengage my regulator for a moment.

'ERT FD, are you folks okay?'

*I get nods all around. I unstrap my mask and explain to them that if them have problems breathing to motion to me and I will give them a few breaths from my mask. I take lead as we leave the room taking only shallow breaths. I can taste the heat in the air along with the smoke. One of the women tug on my shoulder and I hold my mask to here face. We keep walking and we come to the landing on the stairs when finally the other woman tugs on my shoulder again I hold the mask up to the womens face to allow here clean air. Then it is the man's turn. I hold the mask up to his face and he takes a breath. by this time we have reached the bottom of the stairs adn are heading toward the door. the man asks for another breath and I offer him one. finally we reach the door and we all breath in the slightly less smoky air.

'Okay, you three need to go over to the Ambulance where Firefighter Botfish will check you all over okay.'

"P-11 Anders, P-11 Floan, three greens have been removed from the structure."

+3 greens, 4 greens total

As everyone is getting their bearings I keep up the pressure on the hose line, keeping it trained on the window. The roof gave way slowly as shingles started fall in and then some of the timbers gave way. "Alright everyone who isn't injured get a charged line or back someone up, Floan get someone on your deck gun."
