Boat Fire

"Jansen to COPA, im currently hitting the fire with a 2 1/2 line, going to rehab and switch bottles soon"

"hannahan were do you want me?"
*i get up as i turn Jack over to the other medics*

"Jansen to Hannahan, please send someone to replace me here while I get my bottle changed and get rehab"

"I want you up here Bruce. Jess, get over to Squad 1 and spray down the fire while Jansen is at rehab. I'm going too."
*I walk over to rehab and wait for the guys to let me go.*

'Whatsup guys. Busy night?'
*I take my SCBA off as well as my jacket and helmet and sit on the back step of the ambulance.*

"got it"
*i make my way over to the ladder and climb up to the top and start maning the deck gun*

'COPA Anders is at SEV-2 refilling SCBA' I radio, 'Firegrounds this is Anders go ahead and bring airtanks for refill, I'm ready for ya.' I say into the radio. I look at the burning ship and the flames jumping out of the hull. I look down and see two deluge guns spiting water on the deck, I hope someone is on the ladder directing the water I think to myself. I grab my water and take another big gulp before putting it down and getting ready to fill some air bottles as I see Jansen walking towards me.

As Jess takes over my line I walk over to SEV-2 taking off my mask on the way

'Hey Anders, big fire eh? any way here's my SCBA, can you refill it while im going into rehab, thanks!"

Then I walk over to BLS 1 and Hannahand and wait to be checked out

'Hey guys, pretty big fire, I'm gonna check on Ewan as soon this call is over'

"Rescue 1's out at the port."

*As I pull into the port I shut off the lights. I come to a stop near BLS-1, press the anti-theft then take the keys out, and put them in a Velcro pocket on my turnout pants*

*I get out, step around back open the doors, then get the jumpbag and EKG out*

"Rescue 1 to all units operating at the port, we are open for rehab again. If BLS is tied up with rehab you can come over to us."

"Copy RA1, on my way to you"

'Im heading over to RA1, since your busy with Hannahan'

I walk over to RA-1

((RA1))
'Hey guys, can you check me out? btw how's Ewan doing?'

'Hey Jansen, no problem.'

*I get a BP cuff and stethoscope out of rthe jumpbag*

'He heard burns to his arm and face as you saw, but his condition was improving. We had him on an IV to restore hydration and electrolytes. He said the burns were starting to feel better, and the trauma team took him at the ER. We're going to visit him later today to see how he's doing.'

*I wrap the BP cuff around his arm*

'110/70. That's good.'

*I check his pulse, and breathing, and observe him for a moment.*

'Having any difficulty breathing? If not, you can just grab a water...'

*I look around for the water case*

'Uhh, John took the water, so go get water from him and you can rest here if you want and go back out when you're ready.'

'I'll just take a rest, gonna visit Ewan later today.'

I sit for a moment, thinking about what could have happend with Ewan, I sigh.
'Could have been worse I guess, happy he's still alive'

I stare for a moment. 'You guys mind if I sit here for a minute?'

*I take Jansens airtank and screw on the nozzel to the hose. I flip the air flow switch and listen to the crisp flow of air throug a hose. I look at the gage on the primary tanks and it shows half empty as Jansen's gage slowly rises.

'Yeah, rest for as long as you need to. Yeah it could have been worse, and think of how much worse it would be if you were further into the boat. At least you were right now the exit so he could be treated quickly.'

*I take out the chart and write up a quick rehab chart for Jansen*

'Yeah, thanks for the check up, im gonna head out, cya later mate!'

I step out of RA-1 and walk over to SV-2 waiting for my SCBA

((Night guys))

'Thanks guys.'
*I get up and see RA-1 with their rehabbed people and I decide to give them their waters back. I go over to the waters, pick them up, and lug them over to the RA.*
'Here you go guys. Thanks for them...they were very useful to me.'
*I put the waters down and I go and survey the scene and give COPA an update. I grab my mic while I'm walking toward the ladder and I start talking.*
"Ladder one to COPA, we're still suppressing the fire. It's not as violent anymore and it has gotten a bit smaller. Visiblity is increasing and the smoke is also starting to go away slowly."

*Continues to stand next to the rig*

'Richardson, I guess we will have to get some more waters'

*As i'm aiming towards the fire on the deck gun I pick up my radio*
"Botfish manning deck gun to Ladder 1 command, the fire has gone down alot! Do you still want me up here?"

"Yeah, stay up there Botfish. Ladder 1 to COPA, do we have PFD in there still? I see no lines but they might be in there."

' Hannahan where do you need me at '
* I take off my SCBA and set it next to the truck.*

((Sorry guys, been busy.))
"This is Squad 1 officer Davis, is anyone still on the boat? If so, you are ordered to evacuate immeadiatly, it's unstable."
*I run over to the squad, grab a 2 1/2" line, and hook it up. Then I charge it, put on my SCBA mask, and pick up the line. I head over and spray the fire with a steady stream from the same side of the ladder to try and push it back.*
'Florian, when you're ready come back over here and grab your line. We need to keep pushing it back.'

"Hannahan the fires starting to die down a bit"
*i continue to move the nozzle over the fire*

*I hear Bruce over the radio.*
'That's good, I see. Keep water on it, we're almost getting it under control.'

*I come down off of the ladder seeing most of the fire is dying down.*
'I want you up there buddy. All I want you to do is hit the fire.'
*I move around the scene and after confirming with the PFD commander that everyone is out, I keep moving around the scene checking for any abnormalities other than the burning ship. 'I wonder who's going to take this?'*

"Jansen to Davis, on my way"

I put on my refilled SCBA and jog over to my line. I notice the fire dying some more.

*I then look over and notice the back of the ship is clear of any fire. Baffled, I climb on top the ladder truck to get a better view. Even I can't believe, I take in the fact that we're doing a good job. I reach for my mic and look around seeing the PFD's trucks' deck guns are on too fighting the same front end blaze we are then I say to myself 'I get it now.' I grin then grab my radio and talk to COPA.*
"Ladder one to COPA, we have the rear of the ship taken down. Its clear of any fire now and the fire is going down quickly. We should be done in the next thirty to forty minutes if everything continues well."
*I think of telling the crews more to do since I see someone is still aimed at the rear end of the boat.*
"Ladder 1 command to pumper 11 and Squad 1, keep it up. Focus on the front of the ship now since the rear and middle fires are out."

"10-4"
*I start sprating the front of the ship*

* Hearing that the rear of the boat is out and we have enough people working on the front, i began to disconnect my line,walk it out, and load it back up on the truck*
" Hannahan from Matthews, im heading over to rehab"
* I walk over to bls 1 and take my coat and scba off*
' Hey guys, hows it going, been busy?'

I finish refilling the air bottles and rremember I havent gone to rehab yet. I shut the tailgate and walk over RA-1 for rehab. I check out the fire in the front of the ship that is slowly dying down.

"Hey guys, how are ya doin?"

"Botfish to any available fire crews, I haven't had rehab yet and need someone to take my place"

"Copy. Mike, take Austins place for now."
*I keep looking and now there is hardly black smoke since the smoke is turning white. The fire in the front of the boat is going down now so I radio to COPA my status again.*
"Ladder one to COPA, the fire is almost gone. We should be back in service in about 20 minutes."

"This is Austin Botfish I am going to Rehab"
*I walk over to RA-1 and wait for Anders*
'Hey!'

'Jansen to Hannahan, from what I can see the fire is out here, we need to go check it though'

I continue spraying onto the front deck

'Command do you want me to check it?

"I don't want anyone back on that ship. Chris, control the ladder. Bruce, get on it. Survey from above. I don't want you on it. Just extend the ladder and lower it."
*I look around and wait for people to respond to my instructions. I then go over to the PFD commander and he tells me that he'll take care of it.*
'Are you sure?'
PFD: Yea I am hehe.
'We could clean up here.'
PFD: Nope, we got it here. Especially the PPA. They said they want a go at it.
'Gotcha. Alright, we'll clear up.'
"Ladder one command to S1C and COPA, can we have the pumper and squad back in service while we check on some things and pack up here?"

*i get up on the ladder and check every thing.*
'it looks good from up here'
*i climb back down the ladder and take off my SCBA and put it away*

'Hey guys, take a seat.'

*They sit down on the bench

'100/65. Not bad, normal after any exercise or whatever you guys do out there.*

*I check the pulse, and monitor breathing*

'If you don't have any difficulty breathing or over complaints you can grab a water and rest for as long as you want.'

'120/80. That's perfect.'

*I check the pulse and breathing.*

'You good, like I said to Anders you can grab a water and rest for as long as you want to.'

*I get out 2 rehab charts, and fill out one for Botfish, then one for Anders*

"Hey thanks Doug, I think I will get back out there, it sounds like we are about done." I wave and drink my water as I step out the back of the ambulance. 'Okay Hannahan Anders is rehabbed and ready, where do you need me?"

I disconnect my line and drain it, then I put it back in the Squad and wait for the others.

"Jansen to Davis, we should go visit Ewan after we're done packing"

*I walk over to Bruce and I pat him on the back.*
'Good job Bruce. Alright lets pack these lines up so we can get going.'
*I start packing up the line and go over to the EAT typing in the report.*
"Ladder 1 to COPA, we're packing up and the report will be sent via EAT."

Comments: Fire suppression was started quickly and many explosions were reported. 2 Injuries were caused as a result of the explosions. The boat was soon deemed unsafe by COPA and fire TO's and was evacuated. Fire was knocked down soon after and overhaul completed.

*I send the report via EAT and move the computer back over to the officers side. I get off and remove my SCBA, walk around the ladder and put it back in my seat. I take off my helmet and I watch everyone pack up.*

'Sounds like we're done here.' *I say to Cory and Dean*

*I push the water bottles behind the console, replace the jumpbag and EKG, and go up to the drivers seat. I put the keys in, press the anti-theft button, and leave the port.*

"Rescue 1 is clear."

'Thanks guys!
*I walk over to the pumper and unhook my line. After I drain it I put it back on the ladder. Then walk over to our truck and take off my SCBA*
"Botfish to Hannahan, my line is disconnected from the pumper. Awaiting further orders"

*i climb up to the control pannel and move the ladder back down into its bed then i get down and raise all the out riggers and retract them. and put the steel plates back in their proper places. i climb in the drivers seat and take off my coat and take a drink of water*

' Good call guys good job handling ourselves '
* I climb into the truck and take my coat, off put my headset back on and lean back to relax *

(No one should have cleared until the scene was cleared.... )

"Basic 1 to dispatch: Be advised we are back available enroute post"

*I say as I get back in the truck and head to the hospital*

"All units can clear."
*I say somewhat nervously into the radio. I then put my mic back on my shoulder, get back in my seat with my seatbelt on and sit back whilst being driven back to the station.*

*I drean my line, disconnect it, put it back on the squad, and turn off the pump. Then I take off my SCBA, put it away, and climb into the driver's seat. I turn off the lights and put the truck in drive.*
"Squad 1 to COPA, we're available. Going to the hospital to check on our officer real quick."
*I pull away, blast the air horn as I pull out, and pull onto the highway towards the hospital.*

I help Pumper 11 and squad pack their hard suction lines. After latching the final line I see all the lines are cleared and everyone is packing up. I step into the drivers seat of SEV-2 and wait for Austin and Tim. 'COPA SEV-2 will be clearing, over' I say as both Thim and Austin climb in. I shut of the lights and pull around towards the gate and the road. 'SEV-2 clear'.
