Kingston Furnace Eruption

*911 Call rings*
'ERT 911, state your emergency'
'Hi, this is Jake Roberts, ADT, We've got an activated fire alarm in the Kingston Elementary furnace room, as well all the smoke alarm sending alerts. Possible Furnace Eruption, we've had another one in Arizona, where the furnace rusted by the oil line and caused a lot of smoke and very little fire. Aso, one janitor should be inside, might be unconscious as no answer on the callins.'
'Alright Jake, I'm sending FD and EMS now. Thankyou'

* I wake up from sleeping and run down to the bays*
* i throw my gear on then get in the truck and start putting my SCBA straps on*

*I hear the tones drop and run down to the truck and throw my pants and coat on. I climb into the drivers searand start up the truck and hit the emergency master and wait for the rest of the crew to get on the truck. Once everyone is on I Pul out of the station and hit the Q and horn.*

( Floan said to god mod him if we got a call, he had some family stuff)
* Floan jumps in and jack drives away*
Floan: " Copa, 11's en route"

*i hear the call come in and rush to the ladder*
'Jack your driving!'
*i get in the officers seat and place us responding and start blaring the Q and the air horn*

( is there anyway we can move this along)

*as we pull up to the school i hop out and perform a 360*
'Jess, grab a TIC and a stand pipe bag, Jack grab a pike pole. Chris grab a stand pipe bag and a dry wall hook, and mike grab a set of irons.*
"Ladder 1 to COPA place us on the scene of a single story brick comercial occupancy. ive got audible alarms sounding but nothing showing. well hold the assingment with what we have"

"11 to osc, were approaching where would you like us?"
* Floan says while he looks into the book to find a hydrant in case we have to hit a hydrant and lay into the ladder*
* i tighten my scba straps and hook my mask to the regulator and grab a prtoable radio and a flash light and a tic and strap them onto my scba*

*I turn the corner and see the strobes of the fire alarms going off. I pull up and put the truck in park. I jump off and grab my pack and a pike pole.*
'Alright, whats the plan Bruce?'

'were going to go in and try to find the source of the alarm'
*i grab the knox box key out of the ladder and i go and open the knox box, then i unlock the front door of the school*

* we roll up on scene*
" 11 to ladder, we'll take the hydrant and stretch to you and make your primary pumper"
* We stop at the hydrant and i jump out and grab a 4" line and hook it up to the steamer of the hydrant and wave the truck on*
* I walk back up to the scene to see the rest of our crew gearing up and grabbing tools*
* i grab a mini halligan and walk up to bruce*
' did you look at the panel yet? do we know where the room is, i havent been here since i was a 1st grader'

*I look at the pannel and see the alarm is comming from the furnace room in the back of the school*
'Yeah you guys stay out here and wait for me to call you on the radio, but i want you ready with vent fans and a back up line. i want to to as little damage as possibe'
*i make my way back twords the boiler room with my crew and see a light haze of smoke.*
'alright guys bottle up. Jess, Chris go hook up your stand pipe bags but dont charge them till i give the order'
"ladder 1 to COPA be advised we are incountering light smoke"

* I walk over to the pumper and grab a 50' length of 4" hose and run it from the front discharge of the pumper to the rear intake of the ladder*
' Casey, send them water'
' Jack, how about me and you grab that back up line off of the ladder, you want nozzle?'

*I put my mask on and start breathing off of my bottle. I put my helmet back on and turn on the rest of my flashlights so that I can see better. We start walking deeper into the school.*

"Understood, advise when SAR ops begin"

*I adjust my SCBA to fit more comfortably, and walk over to Tim and Jack.*

'What do you guys need me to do?'

* I step out of the truck and adjust my SCBA Straps. I close my door and walk over to my guys. *

' Casey can you get a couple fans out and start Venting the Structure. John can you grab a 1 1/2" line and follow myself, tim and Jack in. Tim, Jack your on Search ops with me, lets grab an axe, Halligan and eachof us needs a floodlight then we can go in. '

" Pump-11 to Ladder 1 we can start Ventilation whenever your ready. "

'Got it Lt.'

*I run over to the truck and pull the 1 1/2" preconnect and go over to Floan.*

*I grab three spotlights and give one to Floan and one to Mathews and I keep one. I check to make sure my air is good and grab an axe.

'I'm good to go Lt.'

*I look at the building and can see smoke start to drift out and form a cloud ou side the door.

" Pump-11 to Ladder 1. We are beginning interior oerations now. "

* I put my mask on and secure it tight and walk over to the front door with my crew, Open it and start walking into the building. There is light smoke everywhere but not enough to be overly concerned about, I remove my mask and it is comfortable enough to breathe in. I start looking around and see the doors have been left open indicating the classrooms have been emptied in those rooms. *

' Jack, Tim do a room by room check on the right side to make certain that everybody is accounted for. John and I will take the left side.'

*i look to my crew to give them directions*
'alright Mike, jack were going to go down this hall and start checking rooms'
"Ladder 1 to COPA we are beging the search for the fire and missing janitor"
*i begin to walk back the hall with the mike and jack*
'alright theres three rooms mike you check one, jack you check one make sure theres no extention. and ill check the one with smoke comming out from under netith it.'
*i walk over to my door which is already cracked and push it open a bit more, but feel somthing pushing against it, so i force it harder and look behind the door shining my flash light down to see what was holding the door and i see what apears to be a body i look back up and see a small amount of flame starting to make its way up the wall due to the boxes stacked against the wall*
'Mike, Jack GET IN HERE NOW! IVE FOUND THE BODY'
"ladder 1 command to FF Forsyth, and FF tufts get down here with your lines not charged! i wanna get this fire out before it spreads to the rest of the school"
'jack, mike get this guy out now!'
"Ladder 1`to COPA. weve found a small fire in the furnace room, also what is the status of our medic unit?"
*i look down on the man and see that he is serverly burned*
'Ladder 1 to COPA can you relay to the medic unit in rount that there PT is an approx. 30 yr old male with 3rd degree burns on his face and torso'
"Ladder 1 to Pumper 11 go ahead and bring your vent fans down here and bring a hose line"

' Jack you take the line in, i'll back you up'
* I leave my halligan outside as we bring in an uncharged preonnected line off of the ladder*
" 11 interior to someone outside, can you charge the green line coming off of the ladder to about 100"
* I strap my mask on as the smoke begins to increase a little and turn my flashlight and helmet light on*

" Pump-11 Command to all Pump-11 Personell , lets pull out of the building and concentrate on venting, the Ladder has the fire and does not require assistance att his time, Keep the line connected to the engine but do not charge it, lets just set up fans and vent the structure. "

*I take the hose and set it by the engine. I grab a fan with the help of Tim and place on at the door way and turn it on letting the air escape into the darkness outside.

'Floan can Tim and I go in and open windows?'

' Absolutly Jack go ahead and take care of that. '

* I walk over to the Engine and take my SCBA off and look at the scene. *

(so my crew has disapeared.. so ill give them till thursday to catch up if not im moving on)

( Yea this sucks bruce im sorry. Tell you what if Burke is good with it, you can use my crew for this call. at least it will give u the attendance you need for the training. )

*I walk back into the building and open windows through out the hallway releasing the smoke. I think to myself there will be some smoke damage in this building if smoke continues to flow.

*I drop the line and go grab all of the vent fans off of the pumper and ladder and set them in front of the building.*

'Ok Lt. Here is all the fans. Where do you want them set up?'

(This is beard's call, remember, he's OIC, don't anyone take over from him. We've had that already.)

( I dont want to take over for him, I actually want to give him my crew for the call so he has the crew to finish up his call. We are already done with our tasks. )

*I run to where Bruce is and grab some webing out of my coat pocket, I wrap it under the body and then through itself to make a harnes to puck up his torso with and start draging him towards the exit.*
'I got him Bruce, he isn't that heavy.'
(Sorry I had PT with the marines last night so i was gone.)

( floan, i only brought a line in cuz beard said for the pumper to bring in a line, i know it's their call..but i was just following orders)
* I take the nozzle and walk back out of the building and grab a fan with jack and set it near the door and then walk into the building to begin to pop windows*

(yeah i had them bring it in as a back up)
"Ladder 1 crew wheres my line? Pumper 11 crew i need fans in place to direct the smoke out of the building i dont want to cut any holes if we dont have to."
*i walk into the room and start pulling boxes that arnt on fire out of the room to remove the fuel*

((okay so do you need us Bruce?))

*I walk around with Tim opening windows as we go. I come to the last one and open it and fee the smoke pulled right out. I turn to Tim and say:

'looks like thats it for windows lets head back to the truck in case the Ladder wants us in there too.'

' alright'
*I head back out to the truck and pick my halligan back up and lean it against my side*

(im going to go and clip a cow if my crew aint posted by the time i get back tonight im going to have the pumper crew step in, so just stand by guys)

( We'll stand by here. if you need us we are here. )

*I get to the door with the victim and hand him off to the ems units.*
"Ladder 1 Lueckenbach to Ladder 1 Beard, do you want us to bring a line down there or the engine?"
*I start walking over to the ladder incase he wants me to bring a line.*

*I grab the line with tufts and drag it to the room and we spray down the little bit of fire that was there*
"Ladder 1 Forsyth to OSC the fire has been exstinguished"

*i take the TIC from jess and walk around and check the hot spots.*
"Floan i need you to treat the burn PT until ems arives. and send your crew in here to help with over haul."
BREAK
"Command to COPA whats the Status on our EMS unit?"
'jess just give a light wet down to this stuff and check to boxes.'

*I go back into the room and start pulling the ceiling tiles to check for overhaul.*
'Easier than pulling drywall, and easier to fix too.'

" Pump-11 Copies Ladder 1 we'll take the patient. "

* I grab the ALS bag and drug kit from the Engine and run over to take the patient. The patient has burns over his Torso, back and face. I kneel next to the patient and assess the situation further. *

' John, come on over here and give me a hand will ya. '

*i sift through the boxes tossing them out in the hall once i find that they are compleatly out.*
'were doing good guys, keep it up'

* I open the drug kit and pull out 2 bags of ringers, I start 2 large IV's of Ringers TKO and start to flush his burns with cool saline water. *

Patient: Oh god give me something this hurts

Me: Sir, I cant yet we need to get you on the way to the hospital.

Patient: Oh come on this is torture please help me.

" Pump-11 to EMS Units responding to Kingston Elementary ETA Please. BREAK Central, Pump-11. I have a Male patient suffering from 2nd and 3rd degree burns on his torso, face and back, Vitals are as follows. Pulse 61, BP 108/55 and reps are 10 and labored, Patient is asking for something for the pain, request Morphine 2mp IVP "

*I follow Floan over to the patient as I put a pair of medical exam gloves on.*

'What do you need me to do Lt?

' Keep putting the Saline water on his face and chest area. Thx John. '

* I look over at the rest ofmy crew starting to set additional fans and opening windows. *

'Got it Lt.'

*I grab a bottle of saline solution and keep his face and chest moist.*

* I drop my line and walk over to the ladder and start taking a ram fan off along with a power cord and reel it out into the main hallway and set 2 of them up, 1 in the hallway and 1 in the doorway*
