Ladder 1

"hutchison: there isnt anyway we can transport somone in a ladder"

'This is gonna be a fun one....'

'Wait I got something. Depends on how high the guy is. Tim, get the harnest ready on Bruce. Cory, get the ready for ALS just in case. Bruce, you're going up. shouldn't be too high. Jess, help me strap Bruce onto the bottom of the ladder. One of the footings near the cannon should be good.'

"Get him down, I'll send EDRC to check him out, if we need transport, I can contact another agency, but we won't get a transport ready yet."

*I hear Burke's transmission over the Ladders radio*
'I don't know if there's enough room in the cab, we may have to put a couple of guys (no offence Jess) on the grab bar but it's possible. Lt. what do you think about transporting in the ladder if nessacary?'

*I jump off the truck with the ALS kit and get set up, then I go over to Compratment 1 and grab the backboard and c-spine equpiment.*

"Got it LT"

* I familirze myslef where the harnesses are and picture in my mind how this may unfold*

((You will not transport on the ladder Ever! It's not a transport rig! I said I'll have the EDRC there, worst comes to worst, it's a pickup, he'll go there, but there is PEMS, TVFD BLS, PFD EMS and a private company as well, we'll get an ambo if needed"

*We get to the scene and I jump out but forget to take off my headset. I take it off and look up.*
'Oh ok, Anders, get some light to that guy. don't shine it directly at him though.'

* I walk around, open the compartment and grab a harness out*

" Here you go bruce"
* I strap up Bruce, buckling up and snapping everything together and then give him a little yank to make sure everything is in place*

*I hop out and grab the strap and start securing them to the truck by the water cannon*

**I walk into COPA after getting something to eat. DC Burke asks me to take over this call. I run over to My desk and put my headset.**

"COPA to Ladder 1, I am now officially taking over this call. I will consult Burke if need be. Status update please Hannahan" I say through the COPA radio.

**I sit back take a sip of the un-opened Red Bull on my desk and wait for a report from Hannahan.**

( haha wait, you took a sip of an un opned can??lol)

" Alright jess, good job"

" Matthews to Hannahan, Bruce is all strapped up, your call when you want us to begin"

((Well, YOu would have thought I would Open it first))

*I get the monitor out and check to make sure it is ready. I hook up the 12-lead cables and attach patches to it. I get out my IV have it laid out next to the tarp I through down. I moved the backboard on to tarp, and get out the collar bag next to it. I grab the setphoscope and B/P cuff out of the kit.*
'Hutchison to Hannahan and EDRC, ALS treatment area set up at L1.'

"Ladder 1 to COPA, he looks a bit unstable. we're getting prepped for rescue now."
'Alright, good guys. Lets speed it up a bit. Bruce, you ready to be hoisted?'
*I go to the control panel and under it lies two outrigger plates. I grab them and put them down with a thud.*
'Alright, watch out. The outriggers are coming out. Watch out.'
*I take out the left outriggers and before putting down the legs, I put the plates down under it.' I go on the other side and put those outriggers out and do the same with the plates on that side too. Jess, go on the other side and put the outriggers' legs out for me.*

(Who is an EMT on the Ladder?)
"Hutchison to Hannahan, can I get an EMT down here to assist in set up?'

"Rodger that Hannahan. Remember to re-inforce that he will be OK. COPA Out."

*I put the outriggers legs out for him watching him for any hand signals as I do it*
'Okay Lieutenant'

" Hannahan, what do you need me for now?"

"10-4." (Bruce is)
'Is Bruce ready yet?
*As my outriggers hit the ground, the ladder slowly levels up a bit and the wheel slowly lift off the ground.*
'Put up some lights for me.'

" LT i believe jack was doing the lights, and yes, Me and Jessica have secured bruce"

*I look up at the victim dangling from the radio tower.*
"Hutchison to Beard, please advise when you get to the victim his loc and any injuries you may find. Also take c-spine as best you can."
*I go over to to the ladder get the lights out and get them set up.*
'Lights are up.'

'Alright good. lets get him up. Bruce, strap him up and get him down quick ok? EDRC should be here shortly. *I'll get on the ladder controls. I get to the back of the ladder, and start messing with the ladder carefully. I get Bruce off of the ground and stretch out the ladder to as far as it can reach. I the ladder up until Bruce is level with the man. I press the mic button for the ladder and speak.*
'How's he doing up there? Strap him up quickly.'

" LT or bruce are we gonna need a backboard for him or a stokes up there?"

"Alright, Hannahan the ERDC Is Only a minute or two out. Keep him calm, we don't want him freaking out on the ladder." COPA Out.

" Also LT and COPA, the radio station has reported they were in use at the time, we may need that tower shut down to avoid radiation"

"Radio Radiation is not high enough to cause any effects on humans, you'll be fine, they've lowered strength though just incase"

( opps, my bad, I read the radio stations anouncment and sprung that idea in my head)

"Ladder 1 to COPA, Bruce is in contact with the victim. Standby for an update on the victim's medical status."
*I watch as Bruce hooks up the man.*
'Get a backboard ready down here. He might be drunk so be ready for vomiting for ready. We might need a vomit bag from the ALS jump bag.'

'Backboard and ALS set up.'
*I go over to the ALS kit and get out the suction, and a vomit bag.*

" I got the backboard"

* I go to the high side compartment and grab the back board and wonder if I should grab a KED too or not and think about radioing my question to hannahan but realize there is more important things than that, so I grab it anyway*

(The backboard is already out on a tarp by my ALS setup)

"Rodger that Hannahan. I want a status update as soon as he is down fro the tower." COPA out.

*I go over to Tim after turning my radio volume down low to avoid them from interfering*

" hey jess, why dont you grab a blanket and give it to cory for the man, its quite cold out here"

(cool.. now we wait)
"10-4 COPA."
*Bruce gives me the hands up and I start to bring the ladder down slowly and try no to swing it too much. I soon get Bruce in front of the ladder but not down on the ground. I lower the ladder and Bruce touches the ground with the man.*
'Alright, he's down get him off. Give me some vitals to report too Hutchison.'
*I hear the EDRC's sirens in the distance.*
"Ladder 1 to COPA, the victim is on the ground. Standby for a medical report."

*I go grab a blanket and bring it over to them*
'Heres the blanket'

" Lets go jess!"

* I walk/run over to the basket and bruce on the ground*

" Jess un hook the man from the harness and let cory take car of him, Ill unhook bruce"

* I un hook Bruce out of his harness and give him a pat on the back*

" Good rescue Bruce!"

*I rush over to the victim, I quickly get a set of vitals and do a rapid trauma assessment.*
'LT. get ERDC here asap, pt. has a stair step at C3-C4. I have a B/P of 170/100, Pulse of 40, Respirations are 25 and irregular.'
'Jess, get me a regular sized c-collar, and Tim grab the backboard and line it up behind him.'

*I unhook the guy from the harness and then grab a collar and bring it over*

" Got it Cory"

* I pick up the backboard and prepare to wedge it under him after jess collars him*

"EDRC is going as fast as he can. He'll be there soon." COPA Out

"Hutchison to EDRC, I have a male approx. 30 y/o, GCS of 7, rescued from a radio tower, Vitals are Pulse 30, Resp. 28 and irregular, B/P 180/104. Pt. has a stair step of C3-C4. I will advise of futher treatments."
*I grab the IV roll and Place a turniquet on each arm, I find 2 very good vien in each AC and sink a 14 ga in each.*
'Alright he's got IV access, some one get me out the Atropine, Versed, and Succs.'

"COPA, what's the ETA on the EDRC? Requesting an ALS ambulance. Patient has a stair..step.. at C3-C4. I'll give more vitals in a minute."
*I get down after ensuring the ladder is down and locked in place. I the jog over to the patient and wait for Cory to give me more vitals.*
