*I pull up outside and turn the truck off, getting out. I turn the volume on my radio down low and walk in. The lady at the desk looks up from her computer.*
"Hi, I'm interested in adopting a cat."
"That's great, we haven't had a cat adoption in weeks. Are you looking for a kitten or an adult cat?"
"Uh, a kitten."
"Wait here, please."
*She goes through a door behind the desk and re-emerges a few minutes later with a man wearing a PAWC volunteer T-shirt.*
Desk lady- "Mr. uh--"
"O'Reilly," I supply.
"Mr. O'Reilly is looking to adopt a kitten. Please take him back and let him choose one."
"Okay, sir, if you'll come through the double doors ahead of you, I'll take you back."
*I walk through the double doors and we head down to the cats. I start looking them over and quickly spot a Russian Blue. I point him out to the guy, who picks up the kitten and hands him to me. I cradle him in my arms.*
"This one. I've always like Russian Blues. Does he have a name?"
"Yes, he's Smoky. Please come this way."
*I follow him back out to the desk, where I sign all the paperwork and pay the fees. I decline the offer of spading/neutering (whichever it is for males) him and pick out a lime-green collar for him, then get his tags. I pocket the collar, since he's still a kitten, then walk into the store, still cradling the kitten. I get a cat carrier, a bag of kitten food, a litterbox, bag of litter, then a few cat toys. I carry it all up to the counter and pay, then put the little kitten in the cat carrier and carry everything out to my truck and put it in, then head home.*
