Office of Fire Services Instructor
Suggest classes you would like to see come up. Will open a poll too, so you can decide. The most votes will be the 1st class, 2nd most will decide the 2nd, so on and so forth. I will open a signups topic, at which point you can sign up for that class. Lets get this going though 14 day poll, choose your classes

I'll go with rope rescue. Since I am on the squad we are most likely to respond to rope rescue calls. This also removes the need for a HRES on the Squad.

what is RIC? also I would of voted for wildland however since we don't have a wildland station were not really going to have calls there yet so...it wouldn't make much sense yet....and Frank I know your have a lot of USAR experience but I did about 6 years in rural SAR with dog teams if you want some help with that class

We do have wildland fires somewhat. We did training with the airport crews and we had one; the drug truck or whatever started as a truck fire and progressed to be a wild fire...had lines almost a mile away it seemed like haha. Anyway, yea we do get a fair share of those fires but not often. Not a bad class to have under your belt though. RIC I think is Rapid Intervention Crew. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't.

That sounds good, and as far as wildland goes, there's multiple uses. Actually you've done more wildland than you think. It's a different response than what you guys have been doing though, so you can get the fire under control quicker. It will be discussed in the class.M. Your correct on RIC. RIT/RIC is the same thing, just crew instead of team, haha.J. Hannahan wrote:We do have wildland fires somewhat. Rope rescue is currently HRES training. Is the rope rescue training going to be a precursor to HRES, or just basic understanding? Also is the EMT 1 EMT basic, or EMT I/AEMT?

Re: Office of Fire Services Instructor
I chose Paramedic (cuz I need it) and Rope Rescue to futhur expand my HRES training. Plus as Mitch said, as the Squad, we're in charge of rescue ops and it takes like 3-4 people for a rope rescue operation, so everyone should at least have some training. At least one person needs to be the one that gets lowered down and the others manage the ropes, that's all.

Re: Office of Fire Services Instructor
well davis it woudln't really expand what you now about Rope Rescue becuase your trained way beyond what this class would offer if I understand right but I do agree on training others in Rope Rescue because as of right now if we had a legit rope scenario it would have to be only HRES trained people because no one else is trained to assist.

Yeah, it's basics.C. Davis wrote:I chose Paramedic (cuz I need it) and Rope Rescue to futhur expand my HRES training. Goal is to try and have as many people with certs as possible, so it's not just the squad doing a rescue, other rigs can cover.M. Re: Office of Fire Services Instructor
voting's still on for a few more days. Personally I'm pushing for structural firefighting basics and fire prevention, because that's what you deal with mostly, but i'm just the teacher

Well, we don't have a first class. Structural basics is going first because of the new FF's. EMT will be done separately here in the next week too.

So will structual basics include stuff like where the fire is spreading, how safe the building is, smoke density/direction, etc?

It's not going to be super complex, but there's so much to work on. The ERT basics is good, its just some things that are bad.

Re: Office of Fire Services Instructor
I mean the way you guys function on scene needs quite a bit of work when it comes to a fire, i've been keeping up quite a bit thats why I want to get this class out of the way first.

Re: Office of Fire Services Instructor
Could I get a part HRES/USAR certification? For collapsed buildings and such. Crush injuries require special training (which I'm unsure if any of the paramedics have), and if amputation is needed to free the victim I'll have to be there.
