Fire/ EMS staffing Empty Fire/ EMS staffing

Post by T. Matthews Sun Apr 03, 2011 2:12 pm

With the recent debates on what should be done with units, I'm curious as to what everyone else thinks. you can add units, delete units or whatever you believe is best for ERT, within reason. Please follow this format.

    Heres mine:
Ladder- Keep the way it is, 5 or 6 guys
Pumper- Move SEV 2 guys to the pumper to fulfill tasks
Squad- Move SEV1 guys over to squad
SEV's- get rid of all SEV's
EMS- Move all EMS over to RA, operated by FD, Make 2 or 3 RA's if need be. That way at a fire we can have more than 1 re hab, or 1 re hab and one to transport/ heal injuried firefighters. Once station 2 opens we can move an approiate # of RA's over there

    I have some other ideas

Ladder- Keep the way it is, 5 or 6 guys
Pumper- Move SEV 2 guys to the pumper to fulfill tasks
Squad- keep it the way it is
SEV's- Get rid of SEV-2 and have one FF/EMT and one FF/HRES on SEV-1
EMS- Get rid of the RA's and if need be get more BLS and ALS ambos

Fire/ EMS staffing Empty Re: Fire/ EMS staffing

Post by C. Hutchison Sun Apr 03, 2011 2:22 pm

My suggestion based on my staffing at my department.

    RA1: 2 FF/PM's
(All others RA's would be adjusted to move EMS over, but keep all the RA's ALS so at least 1 PM on the truck)
SEV's: remove SEV 2 and change SEV 1 to Rescue squad or Light Rescue or what ever you want to call it.( Ill call it Rescue Squad for here though.)
RS1: HRES and SAR or 2 HRES
    Squad: 5 man rig
    Ladder 4-5 man Rig
Engine: takes all crew from SEV 2 and should have 4-5 man crew.

Then station 2 should be opened and Station 1 Expanded to hold 2 RA's (and move the STO inside Very Happy) and Station have 2 RA's, as well as their Rescue and Light Rescue or Rescue Squad.

yea i see what you're saying cory, but i think that sev 1 should merge with the squad, OR move them to the new rescue for station 2, cuz a 2 man righ i feel is kinda useless, cuz they end up merging with another crew anyway once on scene

    move EMS to RA's

    Ladder: Is good
    Pumper: Needs more people
    squad: needs more people
SEv: 1 should be moved to station 2 and SEv-2 should be taken apart or get a new one with a small pump for like brush fire or something.

I like that Idea Moon of Making SEV 2 a Brush rig in stead of a Support rig.

    Some thing like this maybe?

ehh, but what really is that going to accomplish? sorry that was supposed to sound like a dick there, but we would respond in it then just get assigned to the pumper crew to stretch an additional line

But you could send that on you're trash fires and what not saving the Pumper for bigger calls. The one that I posted is the truck that my Dept. runs and it is ALS equpied for medical assist, and has about 500 ft. of 2 1/2 and 1 3/4 inch with the pump on the back. We could use it for even a minor house fire, or to assist with a auto wreck that they need suppression on.

but how often do we get more than 1 fire here, or a small trash fire where this thing would be useful?

We had 3 calls at once at one point, this could have go to the MVA with the squad, the RA (would hvae been nice to have back then) could have gone on the trapped person and the pumper would have taken the ARFF run or whatever it went on.

to both of you: yea i remember those, yea idk, its a tough topic to decide on, i just dont believe the SEV's are any good cuz we just get teamed up with another rig once on scene. I believe SEV1 guys should go on either the squad, or on the new rescue when station 2 opnes, and the SEV 2 guys on the pumper, which everyone is saying which will probably happen

    My Plans are this:
Ladder 1, keep as a 6 man unit. This way we have one TO, three for RIT if needed, if not entry/suppression and a two man SAR team to clear the area.
Squad 1, 1 command officer, two two man teams.
Pumper 11, One Command Officer, one two man team, one two/three man. There is an extra seat available if needed, but probably won't be filled unless needed.
RA-1 Two man team, with an extra seat if needed. There is two front seats, plus one in back with a belt, as well as the bench.. Three man seating if needed.
SEV's. I will make it just one, one-two man team, I will contact the SEV Members regarding this. They'll be for the bigger calls, so people less available will go on this
    DCF1, staying who he is.

The issue with dumping an SEV you guys were talking about, was certain people have requested not to work with other people, so I do my best to keep incompatibles apart. I will keep the incompatibles apart, don't worry.

That means that she really likes you. (Story time: I was in sophomore year and me and my friend Ashley were hanging out and all of a sudden she digs her nails into my arm. It hurt and i bleed alot and a few of my cop friends saw the aftermath and go to me 'what happened to you' and i said Ashley and they started laughing and were like 'AH She likes you'. I still have the scars from that to this day)
