My department in KY uses Code 12(non emergency) Signal 8(Cancel) Code 8(Lights and Siren Emergency) Code 8 1/2 (Lights only (Only Ambos or Rescue Squad allowed))
My Ohio department uses Signal X(Non Lights and Siren.) and signal O (last FD unit on scene has left scene.)

My fire department is
Signal 12: Fire service (Tree down, boiler problem, wires down, etc.) and MVA
Modified Signal 12: IF they need to modify it for an MVA, like if there fire or something and they need to send an engine as well.
Signal 13: Possible fire, used for alarms, or reported fires
Signal 11: Confirmed fire, all houses respond.

haha, you guys sounds so technical..lol my county ( which is actually one of the leading counties for 911 centers and operations for the nation, a lot of counties copy ours) is " ( unit) is on scene with blah blah blah ( mva person trapped, fire coming from the A side)" just real simple stuff but works great
for example this was a recent house fire( btw restricted alarm just tells the other units to remain off the channel unless they are at that fire) http://www.mcfw.com/?p=4444

I don't think anybody is copying anybody with that. I don't know a fire department that doesn't give a size up on arrival. I'm talking about dispatches, that's what those signals are.
ex:
"Transmitting a Signal 13 at Walmart for headquarters and station 2. Responding companies Engine 1, 2, truck, 3, squad 4, fire alarm from main entrance heat detector."
And then when they get there, like any other fire department in the country:
"Battalion 1 on scene, 1 story shopping center, nothing showing, audible and visible alarms activated, building not evacuated. Battalion 1 establishing command."
Here's an example dispatch:

I don't really know much about the LFB, not sure we really use codes, more of an American thing. But I know how you increase the amount of units. Make pumps 'Number'.

Ours for Ky would go [TONES] 911 to Madison County Fire, 911 to Madison County Fire Station 1 and White Hall Volunteers, 1081 Willis Branch Rd, 1-0-8-1 Willis Branch Rd. this will be in reference to possible smoke in the structure, occupants report this is Code 12.
For OH [TONES] Engine 6, Engine 24, Ladder 24, Battalion 2, 5400 Cleavland Ave, Fire Alarm, Engine 6, Engine 24, Ladder 24, Battalion 2, 5400 Cleavland Ave. Fire Alarm, Respond on Battalion 2 FG.
Over Battalion 2 FG, Battalion 2 and Engine 6 on the scene with nothing showing, send all other units Signal X.

Re: Random Hang Out Topic
With mine, they don't do codes or anything just.. {Tones) Engine 6, Truck 6, Engine 7, Engine 3, Engine 1, District 3, (they will only say it once to save time) responding to the residential structure fire on 123 Main street cross street of Main road. call is to be handled on Tac 5, Tac 5. Time out blah blah hrs.
They won't go into detail until all units are en route. The only codes they use, as far as I know (for fire), is Code 1-3. For Firemedics, completely different codes but no 10 codes. Things like D-57 or something like that describing treatment. I do like 10 codes but find myself confused sooner or later. haha.

Re: Random Hang Out Topic
Oh yeah! I can't wait! Biggest snow here since 1999, and it's supposed to "thunder snow." Yes, a snowstorm with thunder and 50 MPH winds...fun! But that probably means no school and it sounds serious this time. Normally the storms don't hit us when they're supposed to, so this is big. It was funny though because my mom and I were coming home from dinner and we saw a bunch of people filling up their cars at the gas station. Why do it, you can't go anywhere in the snow?! BTW, there's a house that burned down not too far from my house (about 5 mins away). I'll try to get a pic when I can with my iPod. It's an older house, and so are the otehr houses around it.Antoine Blanc wrote:For those in the midwest, are you ready for the storm thats coming our way?

Yeah...we're off the lake, but on the edge of the snowbelt, so we don't usually get snow like this. NY gets 24 inches, we get 2. That's how it is, but at least we still get snow.

C. Hutchison wrote:I wish you people would send some down south, all we're getting in KY is rain.
You can have some of my snow in North Jersey. I'm tired of it, the idiots at the DPW don't plow until 6 hours after snow stops, then they plow it on the corners of driveways and roads, and you can't see a thing when you are turning, and no one of them (along with anybody else) can take the 2 minutes to shovel a fire hydrant, so that's what I do when it snows.
Not joking here, I once saw I DPW truck pull over in front of a fire hydrant that was completely covered. He got a shovel out of the back seat, and I was amazed to see him start shoveling the fire hydrant. Turned out he wasn't. He only shoveled it enough so he could pick up the red flag and stick it above the now. Couldn't have taken the extra minute to shovel the rest of it...
My rant is over, so anyway I'll take your rain you can have my snow, no problem.

Re: Random Hang Out Topic
Really? Does it snow often? Because I'd assume snow gets plowed right into it with it's location.
By the way, I have a correction:
The DPW did not wait until 6 hours after snow stopped. They plowed in the middle of the storm, so another 1.5 feet fell until they got out 6 hours after it stopped.
(Ok, this time, I'm seriously done with my rant, lol)
