*I put the jump bag down and kneel down in front of the the first responder sitting on the chair*
"How are you sir? I'm ERT EMT Doug McGuire, this is my partner Dan Kiefer."
(Just double checking, he's on BLS-1 now, correct?)
"Where did the needle stick you?" I ask
*He shows me the palm of his right hand, there is some blood on the bottom of the palm*
"Right down here, I reached down to help the girl of there, and the needle was sticking out, but I didn't see it and I just pushed my hand right into it."
"Alright, do you have any medical history?" *I ask as I take his blood pressure. I write 110/70 on the call sheet*
"4 years ago, I was on my road bike in a triathlon, fell over, got some road rash on my side and some cuts on my arm. EMTs treated me at the race, never went to the hospital."
"Oh really? I used to do 5-k races. Could never do a tri though. I don't have time for the training." I say and we both chuckle
"Alright, I'm going to check your pulse." *I write 65 beats per minute on the sheet*
"Do you have any allergies?"
"No"
"Where is the needle now?" I ask him
"It should still be in that girls bag." He says
"Okay."
"Hey Ridgeback, Riles. Be careful, the first responder advised me the needle still may be in the girls bag." I yell over to them.
(To COPA)
"BLS-1 to COPA. Status for the first responder. Blood pressure 110/70. Pulse 65 Beats per minute. We will be transporting shortly."
*I clean the small wound and but some disinfectant on it. I put a band aid on it for temporary protection until we get to the hospital*
"Sir, can you stand up and walk at your own strength? If you can I'm just going to have you walk out to the ambulance."
