Post by J. Riles Fri Sep 03, 2010 11:30 am

I grab my mug, drop my papers and leave my office in the hospital. My first call with the ERT is a big change of scene for me. New city, new life.

I grab my gear and unplug my truck's charging power cord and get in flicking on the lights. I see the other medics leave the side door to their trucks as I pull out of my parking space giving a short blast of a yelp.

When I pull on the interpass I jump my speed up to 75 mph and see no traffic for miles.

"ES-1 to copa, I'm en route code 2 on trulit interpass"

*I pull up to the building, turn into the half-circle driveway, park next to the door and shut off the lights*

    "BLS-1 on scene."

*I grab a portable radio and get out, walk around and get the jump bag. My partner and I walk thru the door, I push it all the way open so it stays open and find the victims, one on the floor, another sitting in a chair next to the desk*

I pull up, reach into each cab and flick on the lights again.. Just so people don't go hitting my staffed vehicles Wink

I walk in and start my medical assistance by making sure both patients are under control. I check with both teams and then start to assist the BLS with their victim.

"Has anyone talked to a witness to get what happened?"

Both victims seem to be doing good, the needle vic should be fine I think

*I put the jump bag down and kneel down in front of the the first responder sitting on the chair*

"How are you sir? I'm ERT EMT Doug McGuire, this is my partner Dan Kiefer."

(Just double checking, he's on BLS-1 now, correct?)

"Where did the needle stick you?" I ask

*He shows me the palm of his right hand, there is some blood on the bottom of the palm*

"Right down here, I reached down to help the girl of there, and the needle was sticking out, but I didn't see it and I just pushed my hand right into it."

"Alright, do you have any medical history?" *I ask as I take his blood pressure. I write 110/70 on the call sheet*

"4 years ago, I was on my road bike in a triathlon, fell over, got some road rash on my side and some cuts on my arm. EMTs treated me at the race, never went to the hospital."

"Oh really? I used to do 5-k races. Could never do a tri though. I don't have time for the training." I say and we both chuckle

"Alright, I'm going to check your pulse." *I write 65 beats per minute on the sheet*

    "Do you have any allergies?"

    "No"

"Where is the needle now?" I ask him

"It should still be in that girls bag." He says

    "Okay."

"Hey Ridgeback, Riles. Be careful, the first responder advised me the needle still may be in the girls bag." I yell over to them.

    (To COPA)
"BLS-1 to COPA. Status for the first responder. Blood pressure 110/70. Pulse 65 Beats per minute. We will be transporting shortly."

*I clean the small wound and but some disinfectant on it. I put a band aid on it for temporary protection until we get to the hospital*

"Sir, can you stand up and walk at your own strength? If you can I'm just going to have you walk out to the ambulance."

((Sorry, I must have read the alarm center wrong))

    *The man stands up*

"Yeah, I'm good. Am I going to your hospital?" He asks.

"Yes, you're re going to the ERT hospital." I reply.

"If you're all set let's go out to the ambulance."

"Yes. Umm, actually, if you wouldn't mind, can you grab my briefcase it's right by chair I was on."

    "Sure, no problem."

*I close up the jump bag. Put the strap over my shoulder, pick up his briefcase, and walk him to BLS-1. I open the back door for him.*

"Just go ahead lay down on the stretcher. I have to strap you in just for safety."

*He lays down, I strap him in and put his briefcase on the bench. I shut the doors, put the jump bag in it's cabinet, and hop into the drivers seat. Put some more info into the EAT, then pull out of the driver way and drive toward the base*

"BLS-1, transporting one male to ERT hospital. Code 2."

"BLS-1 at ERT hospital. We will not delay at hospital in case we are needed at the fire."

*I pull up to the emergency room. I shut off the lights, turn off the engine, and get out. We pull out the stretcher, I put the briefcase on the back of the stretcher and we roll him into the hospital.*

*I handover the information to the ER, then roll the stretcher to the assigned room. The man gets on the bed. I go out, change the sheets on the stretcher, wash my hands, and we roll it back out and put it in the BLS*

*I get back in the drivers seat, and pick up the radio*

"BLS-1 to COPA, patient in hospital care, we are available. Time out 1424h."
