Re: Recent Calls
Best one i've had yet. Dispatched for a motorcycle MVA, well you can guess were hauling to the scene. We arrive and its a stinking scooter, well we get the guy boarded and in the back of the truck. We ask him what happened. He says, "I was riding when a buzzard flew in front of me and crapped on my face and I lost control. We couldn't stop laughing at that one.

Re: Recent Calls
Alright. 2 alarm house fire going right now, I'm bored and not tired, so I'll update this post as stuff happens
11:36EST - House fire reported
11:44EST - Mutual Aid dispatched, Task force to the scene, task force to headquarters for the cover assignment
(On scene: 3 engines, squad, ladder, 4 ambulances, and the volunteer truck (whatever they call it))
11:50EST - Mutual Aid Coordinator on scene 2 houses going, one well involved, second has flames in the attic
12:05am - 30 minute mark
Command reports Two 2.5 story woodframes, visible fire in main fire building is knocked down, now heavy fire in the second building. primary search in main fire building negative so far,
EDIT: Nevermind. Apparently Mutual Aid has new trunked fireground frequencies I can't get. Oh well. I'll be surprised if it's not on the news tomrrow or no pictures or anytyhing, so I'll let you know when theres pictures and stuff tomorrow.

Makes sense, our probies come with SERT on their backs, as they all just came from SERT, the training centre in the province.

ok..so
hannahan: no, i think you were looking at the wrong pic, im in the 11th one down, where you can see a bunch of the trucks, there is a man in the blue shirt, i am just to the right of him...
everyone: ok so the dept you saw with the yellow helemets, they are kinda different, all their FF's have yellow helemets, capts/ LT's have red helemets with red jackets..and the chiefs have the white helmets with white jackets..
but for my dept and most others with the exception of that one..all our FF's have black helmets, probies have orange fronts and orange stickers, but we dont really issue them to our probies..we could care less, capts/Lt's have red helemets, and chiefs white..since im an explorer/ jr firefighter whatever you want to call it...i have a black helemt but blue tets on it

Re: Recent Calls
Eh they can be interesting. Had one breach a hole in a grain silo and cause a pretty big explosion back in 05' when I was on the engine. Never forget that truck, we had to have been like the only guys running in a 70s/80s Ambassador pumper in 2005.

Re: Recent Calls
haha, we had a silo on fire once, well the corn inside of it...but we got there and were like hmmm, who do we fight this, had never had one before..so we decided to call in a 100 ft quint and we opened the top and just sprayed water down into it, and then we cut a hole in the side, what a mess, all that corn just flowing out

Re: Recent Calls
I would've let it burn, and brought a movie or too... Mmmm popcorn
Correction, I would've tied the silo to two tractors, and pulled it back and forth, so it would get even heating, and the corn would pop nicely

Re: Recent Calls
Wow... that was really dangerous, you should be really thankful that
there wasn't an explosion, especially with all that agitation with the
water. Not to mention water does pretty much jack shit and is really time consuming. The best way to
put it out is to empty the silo/bin, and for the love of god, just don't
get near the top. Burial in a grain silo is NOT FUN AT ALL either.

There was a barn fire here over the summer. Huge barn, thick black smoke. There were 14 towns there and over $1 million in damage. Look it up on Youtube, you'll find it. Cause is unknown.

Re: Recent Calls
Yeah They get quite a few. Probably anywhere between 25-30 per month, but maybe only about 5 that require mutual aid for a cover assignment, and maybe 1 or 2 that require mutual aid to the scene, which is for the most part just a FAST team.
Union's got 3 stations, and their paid so they can usually handle it on their own with 3 on duty engines, 2 reserve, 1 on duty truck, a reserve truck, a squad, and the rescue (ambulance, not like heavy rescue truck).
The first one I posted for Tampa Place was a 2 alarm, with mutual aid to the scene and at the cover. The Kawameeh drive one only had mutual aid to the cover assignment.
