Rescue 1 and medics due to Empire and Tenth Subway Station

*I flip on the lights and sirens, heading for the subway station.*

"M-5 is responding code 3 from Sixth and Empire."

"Understood M5, reports are that there will be a uniformed Transit Security officer waiting to bring you down. No rush, you guys can't do anything until he's free"

*I jump in my truck quickly, Start it up, drive down my driveway, and throw on my lights and siren.*

"DCF1 is responding, Do we know if the Subway shut off power to the tracks?"

*I shut off the siren as I pull up to the subway station.*

"M-5 to COPA, I'm on-scene. What's the ETA of Rescue 1?"

*I get out of the truck and grab the jump kit. A Transit Security officer comes over and we head towards the subway.*

*I pull up onscene and park behind the medic. I then hop out and grab my turnout jacket out of the back.*

"DCF1 onscene."

'HEY! O'Reilly you need me to grab anything out of your rig?'

*I get up quickly from my nap to the tones and I listen to who's needed. Soon after, I calmly get up, stretch and jog down the stairs to my gear. I then start gearing up with first my pants then hood,then jacket leaving my helmet and gloves off until marking en route. I place my right hand on the grab bar and vault myself into the truck with ease. I sit down and grab the door closing it behind me and press above me the bay door button so the bay doors can open. I then grab my seatbelt behind me and strap it across my chest putting it on. I then turn the EAT to me and mark us en route as I wait for Mitch. I slowly put on my headset and turn on the lights as I wait.*
"Rescue 1 en route."

*I turn to yell back at McEvoy.*

'O2 and trauma kit! I've got my jump bag!'

*As we make our way to the scene, I explain to Mitch as to what he's supposed to do.*
'Alright, Imma need you to get the tacstick, some cribbing, and i'll get the airbags ready and the generator too. That's about....it. Yea. So check the third track for electricity. If it's off, we'll get the airbags under the train car, lift it, and get him out and hand him over to EMS. We should be good after that. Just need to let the train back down and make sure the train is back on the tracks. I know you never done this before but I think you'll do fine.'

"Rescue 1 on scene."

"Rodger that" I say as I drive to the scene.

*I grab the O2 and the Trauma back out of the back of the Bus and start walking towards the stairs down to the subway platform.*

I think to myself oh great this is gonna be a fun call

*I get down to the platform and notice a LOT of rubbernecks with only a few Transit Security officers trying to hold them back. I have to elbow my way through the crowd. I get to the small safe zone created by the security guys and key up my mic.*

"M5 to COPA, we have a lot of rubberneckers on scene. Transit Security is having a hard time holding them back. Could we get a PD unit or two down here?"

*We arrive on scene and I get out with my jacket in my hand. As I sling it on, I walk back to the rear compartment and get the portable generator. I then get that as well as the airbags and I tell Mitch to remember to get the cribbing and tacstick.*
"Rescue 1 COPA, any info on the power on the tracks? Can we get that shut off? Lets uh get trains on this track diverted so we wont have to worry about that kay."
*I walk down the stairs and flashbacks of NYC subways flow through my mind. I get to the train which seems empty with a few transit guys around holding back people.*
'Ok Mitch, get the cribbing ready and hand me the tacstick.'
*I put the generator down as well as the airbags as I get the Tacstick from Mitch. I check the third rail which seems to be off and I put it back on the platform. Me and Mitch hook up the airbags and I set the airbags under the train. As Mitch gets set up, I start to lift the train with the airbag.*
'Mark our tracks with the cribbing Mitch. If the train falls down,' I say in a lower voice ' I don't want this to fall on the poor guy.'
*I look at the victim.*
'Hey buddy, how ya doin?'
I've been better... are you almost done?
'We're gonna get you out as soon as possible kay? Almost ready to get you out. You havin any pains?'
No, not right now. I'm just too scared to feel anything right now. Please get this off of me.
'No problem. Just hold tight for us.'
"Rescue 1 to all units, we're getting ready to lift the train. Stay at least 10 feet away until I clear ya."

"Got it, Rescue 1."

*For the second time, I notice a large amount of rubberneckers.*

"M5 to COPA, can we get a PD unit down here? Transit Security is having a hard time holding back the rubberneckers."

((Sorry, I've been busy))

I follow Hannahans orders and check that the cribbing and airbags are in the correct position. I check they are secure and won't move. I also pull my ALS bag and oxygen down from the platform so I can treat him.

Because I am getting hot I take off my turnout jacket and put it on the platform.

"Looks all set."

"Any available unit to Empire Tenth Station to assist Transit security. Shut down and evac station if necessary"

"Booth to COPA I will do that if you want me too"

*I turn my lights on and head that way*

'All right, I'm lifting.'
*I turn on the generator and put air pressure into the airbag, slowly bringin the train up.*
'Hey Mitch, don't treat him until we get him on the platform. Sir, move your arms for me if you can.'
*He moves his arms.*
'Alright, move your legs too.'
*He does the same.*
'Alrighty. Now can you shimey your way up here? You have plenty of room.'
*I look at Mitch.*
'Mitch, can you get under there and guide him through? I'll be behind you. The train is locked in place pretty much since the cribbing is here so we just need to get em.'

*I arrive and I park my car shut it down and walk over to the transit cops*
"812 On scene"
'Hey guys call for backup'
"812 we need PPD assistance down here maybe also a K9 officer"
*I pull out my baton and extend it just in case i need it*
'Everyone stay back and leave the area or you may get injured and arrested'
*someone throws a water bottle at me, and it hits me in the head*
'Hey Sgt. Arrest everyone that refuses to backup, also if you have to use your batons'
"812 we need code 3 assistance, people are throwing things at us, we won't be able to hold them back we need several more officers to assist"

((Pretend I'm watching this on TV. I'm going to hold a mandatory instruction class for officers on crowd control. This is not what's supposed to happen.))

**In my office, I see local news coverage of the subway accident. The camera pans towards the crowd, where there are people yelling. Someone throwas a water bottle at Booth, and then the transit police start pushing against the crowd.**

"812, this is the TAC OIC. How bad is it out there? I'm looking at TV coverage and the crowd is starting to act up."

(Don't turn it into a riot please)

"Requesting a priority 1 response to scene, 812 requesting assistance BREAK 912, evacuate station, anyone who refuses to leave, arrest for endangerment."

"812, yea its bad not too bad but these people are relentless, we need K9 and smoke grenades"

"Smoke grenades won't be happening, we've got firefighters down there working, and anything like that would only endanger them further"

"10-4 I already knew that, but it would help, is K9 on their way?"

*more stuff are being thrown at us including beer bottles*

"COPA, TAC OIC will respond with Unit 123. Be advised, I'll try to stay out of sight of the disorderly crowd."

**As I get some gear on, the phone rings. It's the Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's office in Phoxlind.**

Me: 'Emergency Response Team, Phoxlind. This is Captain Bucello.'
SAiC: 'This is Special Agent Hayden, FBI. I'm inquiring about the conduct of your officers at the - '
Me: 'If this is about the scuffle going on at the subway station, it has to wait. I'm going down there now. Don't call me; I'll call you.'

**I hang up and get into the Bearcat.**

"812, hang tight. 123 is en route Code 2."

((its not a riot, people throwing bottles at police isn't a riot))

((There is a large, violent group of people in a defined area directing anger against public officials. Right now, there are at least three people who can be charged with assault on a police officer. I'm coming to the station with a riot vehicle to make an effort to disperse them peacefully. I don't know about you, but this is a riot.))

**While in the Bearcat, I switch radio channels to the Phoxlind Regional Transit Authority's dispatch channel.**

"PRTA, this is the ERT TAC Officer in Charge. The subway station at Empire and 10th is temporarily closed due to a rescue operation that's taking place. Can you dispatch shuttle buses to the station please?"

**They answer 'yes.' I continue to the station.**

((we have maybe a dozen to 18 people and only a few officers all that I needed was a couple more cars and a K9 unit, not riot control officers)

"812 Copies"

'Everyone stay back or you're going on the ground and to jail, stay back now'
*some listen and walk away while some try to come closer, one punches me and I hit him with my baton and throw him on the ground I them cuff him and leave him on the ground*
"812 has one in custody"

Captain 1 en route code 3."

*I head out of my office with my dog and down to our squad. I weave through traffic and pull up at the enterance.*

(FYI, our K-9 is not an attack dog, its a sniffer. Plus, its not the riots during the '60s, not sending the dog on people.)

ALL POLICE UNITS HOLD TRAFFIC, LET FIRE COMPLETE THERE CALL

**I pull up on scene as Libor and the first city buses arrive. Most people have started to leave.**

"123 on scene."

**I exit the Bearcat, almost embarrassed that we have this kind of armor here for what should've been basic crowd control.**

'Booth, put your detainee in the back of Libor's car. Consider yourself relieved of this assignment. Once the detainee is set for transport, get into your car and head back to base. Wait for me in my office when you get there.'

((In reality, I'll PM you when you clear out.))

**I get back in the Bearcat.**

"COPA, Unit 123 is clearing. We're not needed here."

"All pd clear, area shut down."

'Yes sir'
*I grab the prisoner and bring him to an Captain Libor's police car, and put him in the back, I walk to my car and drive back to base*

"812 clear heading back to base"

*I glance around as people start throwing stuff at the PD and hope this doesn't turn into a riot.*

*We get the guy out and we help him onto the platform then carefully help him over to Angus.*
"Rescue 1 COPA, patient has been extricated and handed over to EMS. We'll stay with down here and lower the train and assist EMS meanwhile.*

"EMS, you right if me and Hannahan put the train back down? You right with the patient?"

I go back down and help get the train back on the track.

*I start checking his ABC's and vitals once they get him up on the platform.*

'Alright. Train...is...'
*I hear a small clunk and then look at the rims of the track. The train is properly down.*
'Down. Ok Mitch, I'll get this stuff cleaned up here....and you stay here with Angus and help with the patient.'
"Rescue 1 COPA.....train has been set back on the tracks. Can you have transit come down here to chekc it if possible to make sure kay?"
*I start taking the generator back to the truck upstairs and as I look around, I see people looking at me and some actually clapping. I break a small smile and keep walking. I put the equipment back in the tray and close the compartments doors. I then take off my jacket and put it in my seat, close and lock the door, get a backboard from Angus' ambulance and go back into the subway.*
'Hey Angus. I got your backboard and collar bag for ya. You ready to take him outta here?'

"Understood, Transit should have an engineer on their way now, they said you can pack up and move out. That train will be out of service for a while anyways. Thanks guys"

*I jot down his vitals. He's tachycardic.*

"He's tachycardic. Let's get him to the unit. Also, the train was not physically on him, correct?"

"Rescue 1 copies COPA. You can go ahead and put us back in service."
'No. He did the right thing and got down before the train went over him. He's just a bit ahhhh shaken up.'
*We get him onto the backboard and get him collared and on the stretcher. Since I'm at the foot at the stretcher, I look up at Angus waiting for him to give the count for us to lift.*

"That's good, means we don't have to worry about crush syndrome. Alright, lift on three. One...two...three."

*We lift him and put him on the stretcher.*

"This call could have been a lot messier and I mean alot. Alright lets get him ready so you can get him to the Hospital"

I say while helping Angus.

'Up the stairs we go.'
*We carry the guy up the stairs and place him in Angus' ambulance.*
'Alright man. We'll be goin so see you later.'

"See ya later."

*I get up in the back and recheck his vitals. He's finally stabilized, so I get his info and then get in the front.*

"M5 to COPA. Transporting one to ETC, code two."

*I pull off towards the Complex.*
