Dive Team Class

Please organize here

* after getting my nap in at the station i wake up, shower, and head to the TA*

* i walk into the TA and take a seat in the class room and get excited that i may become part of an eliete group*

*I pull up to the Training Academy in DC1, and notice one POV parked in the student lot already. I pull in next to it, walk in to the dive team class room, after checking with the front desk, and see TIm sat down waiting for the others.*
'Hey, I'm not here to instruct, just to speak for a bit, oh, and remember, you're still a student, head to the front desk and grab the cadet bands, they've got special ones for you, dive flags on them.' I say as I sit down at the desk, and start my computer, waiting for Florian and Chuck.

After returning from the call and a shower, I get in my POV and drive to the TA.
When I arrive, I get out and see Tim at the front desk. 'Oi Tim, see you in class'

Then I see the DC 'Hey Commisioner, I saw Tim at the front desk getting something, how are you doing?'

'Florian, did you pick up your pass at the front desk? Since you're the only one trained in diving, you'll be leading the class, and they've got a pass to lety ou into the staff only areas, and also so you can get around without all the fuss, now if you'll excuse me for a second'

I step aside, and answer a request to COPA from the Docks

* i check in at the desk and grab the cadet bands and head back into the room*

' hey flroian, hows it goin?'

'Good, thanks for being here, I'll need to get my pass at the desk and then we'll begin when Chuck is here'

I walk to the front desk and get my pass, which says my name, rank and it says 'Dive Instructor',
I walk back and get my paper work ready and wait for Chuck.

*I pull up into my POV and head inside. I walk up to the desk and grab the bands.*

'Alright Jansen, I'm all set. Whatdaya got for us?'

'Okay, good that your're all here. I say standing infront of the class. 'Your are gonna get a dive manual (link will be posted soon) and study it carefully. If you have questions about it, ask them. Later on the DC is gonna tell some stuff about commanding and eventually when you guys studied good, your gonna get a test.' I say.

After a little break I continue my story
'Question for you guys, who has any diving experience? (RL)'

'i dont neccesarliy have diving expirence, but i have done water rescue and ice rescue, no SCUBA stuff or diving at depths though..'

'Okay, that's good, cause thats part of our job at Marine One'

I hand out the manuals to Tim and Chuck
'DC, do you want one?'

* i take the manual and start flipping through it*

' where are all the pictures?!?!?!?'

'They should be there or something went wrong at the copying department (uploading)'

'What are you saying? Mine has pics!'

*I look through and read about our equipment.*

'Good, so what do you think of it? Any questions?'

I say sitting down at the desk in front of the class, feeling a bit like a boss (;p)

((Well you're gonna be my boss since you're the only with dive experiance!))

*I finish reading through it and close it.*

'Yeah, I have one. Do you have a pic of our marine unit? And is a dry suit just another...umm...is it a material like our green jacket?'

'For the picture, you should ask the DC, even I didnt see it' I say smiling.
'Anyways, the dry suit, its different then our jacket, this is designed to keep all water out and to stay warm, I don't know the exact material, maybe you should google it sometimes or maybe the DC can look it up on his laptop. Anything else?'

((In real life I have my PADI Open Water Diver cert. and further I know some basics about FD Diving, But its enough to be Dive Instructor))

'Umm ok. That's it, I'll make sure to study.'

((FD? I'm a Junior FF/Partime T.O togheter with someone else))

'Alright, there will be a test in a few days'

((yeah, FD. I just joined in July))

'Ok, thanks.'

(Sorry for the delay, I needed to finish Marine Unit, gimme an hour and everyone will get a manual)

(Its online already, beat ya to it ;p. I'm gonna sleep now, if you want to tell something about command, i'll check back in tommorrow))

'sounds pretty good to me, will we respond for manpower to other calls, or only dive related ones..for example if the crews have a large house or a factory fire, will we be called to the scene for more manpower, or are we restricted to the marine unit?'

"I got that one Florian. Depending on the need at the scene, and the assessed need for your unit (ie will you get a call soon) you may be called out"

'New unit looks great' I say to the DC

' yea it does look nice, florian did you have your manual still ( i never saw it), and DC or florian, in DC's manual, i didnt see any dry suits, the only thing i really saw was something that looked like a rain poncho. ' oooo, i see now, must of skipped over that, thanks!'

'Woah, I like our truck! Powercall man! Does it have airhorns too?'

'The DC's manual is almost the same as mine, he added our unit. Are you guys ready for a test?'

' i suppose, lets get to work!!'

'Well, you have to wait, DC is gonna tell something about command' I say smiling

'Yes, this is the most important part of it all, as this is where you control your partner's lives.

You need to know how to do three things, which are keep in contact with COPA, advise dive teams, and be prepared for an emergency.

Keeping into contact with us is only easy, update us regularly, update EAT, and most importantly work with the other commanders on scene, and remember, although you may not be in charge, you are the dive commander, and have the right to override commands that endanger dive teams, or your operation.

Now, the next part, is advising dive teams. They can't see everything, nor always know where to go. Your job is to advise them of the hazards, where they need to go, what's the best way, and how they can get there if that way won't work. Also keep them up to date on emergencies above water, and how long they have left.

The last thing is the emergency plan. A wire gets cut, air runs out, waves come in, diver gets stuck, or the water becomes to dangerous to get out of in the original plan. You need to have an emergency plan, and be ready to execute it if need be. Always be thinking ahead. Always know what to do. If there are no questions, I'll get you all to right your tests, and assuming you all pass, we'll head to the dive pool and get you guys started in training, each one of you doing two dives, and one command post, the dives being lead diver, and support diver. Sound good?'

'I do have one question though. A-how do we know what's under water? We only know what's above, so do we advise them of that? B-when you mean 'commanding officer,' does that mean that if I'm the one above ground and keeping contact with the divers then I'll be the one in command for that call?'

'A, You will have a sonar or radar or whatever you call the underwater thing, so you'll be able to see some of the stuff, but you're mostly looking in. B- You are the commanding officer, so yes, you run the dive side of things, but not the OSC. You can be overridden by higher ranked officer if needed ,but not often will that happen, since you'll be required to do almost everything someone at a command post would. That answer your questions?'
