Really? Sweet. Never been in a hurricane. As long as it doesn't come on a Wednesday night, or saturday or sunday. That way I won't have to work during it lol

Worst I've been in is the aftermath of Hurrican Dennis. All the rain came up here and we got terrible flooding, worst I've ever seen.

Well I highly doubt it's going to be like Katrina force by the time it gets up here. It'll die down a lot by then. Probably just going to be rain. Maybe some wind & thunder. I hate working in rain, everybody drives 10x times worse in rain.

Re: Hurricane Irene
Slow? Whereever you live, I'm moving. People drive 20 under the limit in the sun, ten over in a rain storm, and as fast as they can in a blizzard... Every time we get a lot of rain, two people at least die in MVAs, simply because people DO NOT KNOW how to drive in the rain, or anything that isn't sunny... Or really ever.

You know, I'm not even kidding anymore, I am actually seriously looking forward to it. Kind of a once in a lifetime experience living in North Jersey. Should be interesting. I'm sure during an afterwards I'll never want one to come ever again, but I'm actually looking froward to it

Re: Hurricane Irene
I personally still think it's being hyped up way to much, for NJ at least. I'm not doubting it, I still need to see what happens, but I still think it's just being hyped up to much.
I mean, I know they're preparing for the worst, but look at it this way:
Town I work in, 10 miles away, is under a Hurricane warning. Town I live in, 10 miles from the town I work in, is under a tropical storm warning, and the town I live in just declared a local state of emergency. Town I work in with the hurricane warning, has not as far as I know, but idk, I haven't been checking.

Re: Hurricane Irene
No we were prepared. I don't work for the NOFD. I work in the suburbs. Our dumb parish president evacuated us and our pump operators. If any of our are remotely familiar with our geography, you know that the water doesn't recede. so we need the pumps to work. They wanted to leave us in 4 commercial busses on the side of the road! We would have been fine had the governor allowed FEMA to enter the state. They made the situation so much worse.

Re: Hurricane Irene
Well, as per Union County Fire Mutual Aid, all cover assignments and mutual aid is cancelled until the storm passes unless it's a major emergency, like heavy fire, or building collapse, or anything with heavy life involvement.
Basically, if your house catches on fire in the county today into tomorrow, you are screwed unless it's a major fire.
Here's a recording of the dispatch announcing this.

Re: Hurricane Irene
Wasn't bad at all for me here in NJ. Some wind, some flooding, some rain. Trees down, Power lines down, I never lost power though, other parts of town did.
Fire Department pumped water out of a ton of basement, had 2 fires, and the town I work in had 117 Fire calls over the past 24 hours.
Honestly not bad at all. As I predicted, they hyped it up way to much and it's not all they expected it to be.

Re: Hurricane Irene
Twenty something people die, and people are complaining saying that it turned out to be nothing. How many people have to lose their lives for it to be something important. People anymore just think of themselves. Like the people I pick up. Take the only ambulance out of the county for stupid crap. .
