*we arrive on the scene just behind the pumper and i see alot of water on the road*
"guys just a reminder stay away that water"
'Hannahan Where do you need me to go?'

* We pull up to the complex and water is visible everywhere. *

' COPA Pump-11 on scene be advised Water is free flowing down the street, better notify public works as well. ' BREAK ' Pump-11 to Ladder 1 where do you need us to park. '

* I take my headset off and put my portable on and look to the rest of the crew,

' Guys until we get verification as to where the water is coming from keep away from any hazards '

*I get out with my turnouts on and stand and look at the water I'm stepping in.*
"COPA, can you get TEC to come down here to help with this break? BREAK "Pumper 11, Draft the water out with some hard suction lines until we can get someone to get down there."
*I turn to Bruce.*
'I might need you to get your HRES gear on if the breaker box is downstairs.'
*I walk over to the family and ask them questions.*
'Hello, Where is your breaker box and your water line?'
We have a basement so it should be down there and the breaker box is on the first floor.
'Ok thanks.'
*I walk over to Bruce.* Alright, get your HRES gear on. You'll be going inn the basement. I'll turn off the electricity and I'll tell you when your clear to move to the basement. I go over to the ladder and bring a rabbit tool just in case.*
(Disregard my EMS deppot post because I didn't know I had a call)

"The box is downstairs, You're gonna need to cut it either outside or drain it down and try to disconnect the power inside, we've got a technician avaiable, but he'll be a minimum 20 minutes"

*i take off my turn outs and go to the HRES compartment and get a wet suit.*
'alright im going to go down into the basement, i need every one to get all the portable pumps off the vehicles and pump that water out of the basement'

"10-4 COPA."
'People telling me the wrong things.'
*I say quietly. I put my rabbit tool down on the bumper of the ladder and radio to the Pumper.*
"Pumper 11, you copy on the draining orders?"
'After you cut off the power, we'll come in to give you some light.'
*I make sure Bruce's flashlight is working properly and wait for him to don his HRES gear. I then grab the pump out of the ladder and set it down in front of the open door. I put the small suction hose inside of the doorway and I watch it pump out.*

' Pump 11 copies, Casey, Galligano can you guys grab 3 2" submersible pumps and the 2" hoses to go with them and start pumping out the basement, Hennessey can you get the Cones out of the truck and start blocking off the area for pedestrians and vehicles. '
* I walk over to Hannahan *
' John I have my guys working on sucking the water out now. there is alot of it though, might take 10 or so minutes of suction to get it to an acceptable level for Bruce. '

* I walk over and look at the Egress windows where the pumps have been placed *
' Good job on placement guys it looks like the water is now only at hip level '
' Pump-11 to Ladder 1 Water is at Hip level now, its gone down alot, we'll continue pumping here. '

"Water levels are lowering from what I've heard, any attempts at the electricity or the water break shut off yet?

*i walk down into the basement and see that the water level is down below the breaker box and i walk over and shut off the master switch*
"Powers secured"

"10-4 Bruce, good job. I'll see if I can get you some more light down there. BREAK "Ladder 1 to COPA, we have the power shut off now."
*I look around and think of ways to get John more light. I see there is a window in the basement so I think of opening that and shining light through it.*
'Mike, get on the small light mast on the side of the truck and shine it through the window.'
*I run through the outside puddles which are about up to my ankle now and I push the window to the side to open it.*
'Alright Mike, turn it on.'
"It should be a bit better now in their Bruce."

* I walk over to the Engine and grab the Octagon Water box Tool and start looking for the Water box on the street. Once I find it I insert the tool and turn off the water to the Complex from the street. *

" Pump-11 to Ladder 1 water should be off to the complex now, please verify. "

"Bruce, we have water shut down in the house. Close that valve in their just in case. BREAK Pumper 11, standby."
*I watch the house as the water recedes and I wait for Bruce to respond.*

*I walk over to Hannahan*
'Anytihng you need at the moment?'

* I look around as there appears to be a small crowd gathering, 1 lady approiaches me *

Lady: What Happened?
ME: Just a water break.
Lady: Oh my god, Well is everybody out of there?
* I notice she begins to get more frantic *
ME: yes everybody is out and over there, are you ok??
Lady: Yes im fine i just get so worked up over things like this.
ME: Really? Then why come and get yourself all worked up?
Lady: I have nothing else to do,, you know how it is when your retired lol.

* She smiles, pats me on my cheek and walks to the side so she can see more. I start to make my way over to Van der water and Galligano to check on status of the pumps. *

'Get some portable lights ready for when we go to the basement. It should be dry enough soon.'
"How you doing down there Bruce?"
*I stand closer to the door and turn on my flashlight so I could look around. I smell the stink of mildew starting to form somewhere. Either that or the nasty smell of water.*

" Pump-11 to Ladder 1 the basement water level appears to be down below knee level now, does Bruce need any help inside? "

' Good job guys on using the pumps, lets start moving them as close to the middle of the floor as possible, just lift them a little then swing, there is enough water still that it will not hurt them and the suction should let them land on the floor flat on the bottom. '

(Radio communications use a " not a ')
"Update on status please"

"Ladder 1 to COPA, we have the water situation controlled. We're pumping now and the electricity to the house has been shut off K? Do you copy?"
*I grasp my mic firmly in my hand and wait for COPA to come back.*

*I finish repositioning the pumps.*

All set lieutenant!

The water continues to drop, almost to knee level.

* I walk over to the family that lives in the home and start to double check that all heads are accounted for *

ME: Guys are all of you together, nobody is missing?
Man: No we are all here nobody is missing let me count 1,2,3,4,5 yes we are all good.
ME: Good just double checking.

" Pump 11 to ladder 1 all heads of home are double checked and accounted for, water level is below knee level now and all 3 pumps are still operational. please advise over. "

*I walk over to Floan looking side to side trying to be alert as possible but incospicuous too.*
'You guys have any more pumps? We don't have any.'

'pfft Hmm and to think you were MY Lt. lol J/K yes we have 1 more, its actually taking up space that we dont need anymore. its a Gas Powered 56gpm pump, would U like it john lol. '

* I walk over to the compartment where the pumps are kept and pull it out and watch John's eyes light up *

'That's pretty nice heh. Yeah, but lets wait until we get to the station so I could put that in our rig. I want you to go to the back of the house and set it up through the window back there. I'll open it for you.'
*I make sure my gear is all well and ready to go and I make sure that my boots are on tight so I can walk in and do my task.*

' u got it, it takes 2 men to carry though with all the hoses and stuff. '

* Hannahan and I take the pump and hose lines and walk around to the back of the house *

' alright i got it, why dont u go get geared up '

* I hook the pump line to the pump then jump down into the Egress window and toss the line inside, then I climb back up and hook the drain line to the other side of the pump and run it off into the street, then I go back and start pulling on the chain to start the pump, after a few pulls it roars to life and I rev the motor up. *

" Pump-11 to Ladder 1 COmmand, Pump is up and running, your task is a go. BREAK, Pump-11 Command to Pump-11 Hennessey, can you get out a couple dry blankets from the engine and meet me at the back of the house. "

'I'll be back.'
*I go inside the house and make sure the hose is in place. I then run back outside and shake my foot to get the water off.*
'Alright, its in place.'
"Ladder 1 to COPA, we have the water down to knee level now. Cancel ALS-1." BREAK
"Ladder 1 command to Beard,hows it looking down there? Is the valve shut down yet?"

what else needs to be done around here?

" Pump-11 Command to Pump-11 Van Der Water Check the Level of the water, it was below the knee, if its at Ankle level then we can pull the 3 Submersible pumps. "

"Yeah, it's about ankle level, lieutenant."

*I walk back over to Chris Tufts near the ladder*
'I want you to help Pumper 11 guys with removing the pumps and hose. You too Mike.'
*I say as I see people actually getting closer and trying to ask us questions.*

* I walk over to Van Der Water and Notice the water level is almost non existant now, just around ankle level. *

' Alright then lets pull the pumps and roll the hoses then. '

* I grab a hose and start laying it out to be rolled, then start a small, tight roll until eventually its a nice medium roll. I walk over and put the hose into the truck. *

' Whew, 1 down 2 more to go lol. '

* I see Hennessey and Galligano walking over to the Engine, both with pumps in their hands and they put them in their places. *

' Alright guys lets start wrapping things up, make sure we police the area for all blankets, hoses, connections and any loose equipment. Im gonna run around back and take down the 2 man pump and hoses. '

* I walk around to the back of the house and shut downt he pump then start Disconnecting the hoses and roll them up nice and Tight. *

" Pump-11 to Ladder 1 Command, can I get a hand in the back of the house carrying the gas pump and hoses back. "

*I start to roll hose. when I'm done with the first roll, I put it in the truck, go back and start the second roll. I finish.*

"rolled, the hose has been!" I say imatating yoda. I laugh.

*i get out of my wet suit and put my bunkers back on for warmth*

* I walk over to my side of the truck, take my turnout coat off and put it on the floor of the truck, and take my cover off and put it on the dash. then Walk over to Van Der Water, Galligano and Hennessey *

' Guys good job on this call, can you all help Ladder 1 Police up their stuff and we can get outta here after that i think. '

" Pump-11 to Ladder 1 thx for the assistance with packing our gear, we are on our way over to you to do the same. "

*Bruce comes back upstairs.*
'Good job Bruce. Get changed and we could finish up.'
*As I finish talking, one of the TEC trucks pull up and an engineer comes out.*
'Hey.'
Hey.
*He goes inside and does his job. I then walk over to John and I start my to helping him out with the gas pumps.*

* Hannahan and I load the pumps onto the Engine and close all the compartments on both of our trucks. *

' Well what else u wanna do on this one? lol '

'Have one of your guys pick up the cones and what I do is go over all of our tools if you don't mind.'
*I smile then grab my mic.*
"Ladder 1 to COPA, we're done here. Can we clear?"
*I put my mic back on the shoulder clip and grab my clipboard moving around checking off equipment in the compartments.*

' got it '

* I walk over and pick up the cones and store them on the back of the truck. *

' Alright, My guys lets load up i think we are done but wait for me to clear before we pull out pls '

" Pump-11 to Ladder 1 are we Clear? "

* I climb up into my seat and put my headset on *

"Units clear"

"Ladder 1 copies. Show us in service and en route to station. COPA, does Squad 1 require any assistance?"
*I hop into the truck, put on my headset and seatbelt and sit back going back to the station.*

* I look around and make sure everybody is in and set *
' Alright Casey take us back '
" COPA, Pumper-11 is clear and returning to station. "

*I switch the engine out of park into drive. as we're pulling out, A group of kids gather on the corner to watch us leave. They wave. I put the lights on for a second and give the air horn a tap. they jump and laugh. We take off back to the station.*

'you ready Hannahan?'

'Yeah.'

*i put the ladder in drive and shut off the emergency lights and head back to the station*
