Crane Entrapment

Squad 1
ALS-1

Please request other units from COPA if needed. Should be able to handle this call with given resources

*I pull up, and put on the parking brake*
"Squad 1 at scene"
*Jumps out, runs up, runs back, and picks up the mic*
"Victim looks un-con-chis" ((Don't know how to spell that))

"Botfish get the stokes and the jumpbag, Florian and I will go up as soon as we have harnesses ready. Davis, scout the 4th floor see if we can get a grapaling hook across. ALS-1 Stand by next to the crane base."

*I run over and get the stokes and jumpbag and set them up near the crane*
'Ok Raven good to go!'

I pull up get out the ambulance and grab the jump bag with the c-collar and backboard. I wait as on stand by. " Raven be sure to c-collar him before extricating him." I don't move from my spot and stay on standby.

'Copy that, Raven. Should I check inside the building? From the outside, it looks like you can fit a hook on that piece of steel rebar next to the crane there.'

*I point to the piece if rebar, about 6 feet away from the crane.*

Go up there and make sure we don't have another vic. Florian let's climb" I say and grab 100 feet of rope and get into my harness.

'OK.'

*I open the door, walk into the building, and up the stairs. I find a bunch of rubble and begin to search and call out.*

'Hello? This is the ERTFD, is anyone there?'

*I here no response, but keep searching anyway.*

I put on my harness and walk toward the crane and look up 'That's a long way up, what are the wind speeds?' I say as I secure myself to the crane and start climbing up the crane's ladder. 'I hope we get to him on time'

'CAREFULL JANSEN!' *I step away from the crane*

'I will Botfish!!' I continue climbing, with the Lt. following me.

As we reach the top of the 1st ladder I pause, and look up.
"COPA be advised, crane had dropped it's load."
"Florian, I'm going to have to free climb to unlock the hatch leading to the top. Wait here.

'Got it, whatch out! The wind is picking up!' I stay in my place as Lt. Raven is trying to unlock the hatch

'Raven, do you need me to do anything?'

*I run to the fallen crane from the upstairs. I see Raven climbing up.*

'Hey, I can't reach him from here. No more victims, just the one in the crane. Do you need some help?'

I notice Davis and grab my radio "Chuck, can you see if he has any injuries?"

'Let me see...'

*I try to look into the crane, but the window is full of dust.*

'I can barely see, the window is dusty. I'll just wait for Raven to open the door.'

"10-4 Chuck" I wait for Lt. Ewan to open the door

'I head down and get some equipment ready.'

*I run down the stairs.*

'Davis, you need any help?'

'Sure, grab a backboard and lay it out and egt it ready. Get out a harness for yourself, just incase Raven needs help.'

*I get out an EMT bag and a harness for myself. I put the bag by the backboard and the harness...just on the ground.*

'Roger'
*I grab a back board and a harness, then put on the harness*
'Ready for action.'

'OK, now we just need to wait for Raven to open the door.'

((My bad I had stuff to do yesterday))
I free climb the crane and reach the top. I see the door is locked, but it's frozen. "Botfish grap the tool kit off the rig." I say and then tie off the rope and throw it down.

I move a bit a side so the rope doesn't hit me. 'Its down, you have a visual on the vic?'

'Ok'
*I run to the truck, grab the tool kit, run over to the rope, hook up, and start climbing*
'Here I come!'
*I reach the top and hand Raven the tool kit, then I step aside and let Raven do his thing*
'If you need any help getting him out let me know.'

'I'm down hear if you need any help. Just ask, I'll get the medical stuff ready.'

*I pace around in case the guys need me to help.*

I hoist up the tools and open the kit, grab the wrench and start to take off the door. as soon as it's off I help Florian up into the top.

Ewan help me op to the top and I climb further to the cab, I open the door of the cab and see the vic.

'Fire Department! Can you hear me?!'
'hmm, what?'
'Fire Department sir! You have been in an accident operating a crane!.'
'Damn, that explains the pain in my neck and my upper leg'
'We'll get you out of here, which leg hurts?'
'The left one'
'Okay, I'm gonna put a C-Collar around your neck'
'Sure.'

'Lt. can you hand me the C-Collar?'
"Jansen to BLS1, vic is concious and has neck pains. also a possible femur break"

I wait for the Lt. to give me the collar.

"Thanks Jansen" I say and put the C collar on and tigten it. "Raven to ground we'll have to use a pully system to get this guy down." I say. Jansen, let's rig up this rope system.

'Hey, do you need my help now? Do you need some pulleys?'

'Got it' I get the harness and talk to the man.
'We're gonna put a harness on you and hoist ya down, your're not scared of height I suppose?'
'Nope'
'Good, lets go then'

"Jansen to Davis, I've got pulleys with me, be ready to secure me, when I come down"

I rig the rope system and put the man in the harness.
'You ready?'
'Yeah'
'Okay, here we go'

I go down with the man while the ground crews secures us
"Jansen to ground, make sure to have a backboard and trauma bag ready, we need to take vitals and splint his left upper leg"

'OK, copy, I've got the backboard and bag ready.'

*I pick up the backboard and trauma bag and run over to the bottom of the rope, where Jansen is.*

*I climb down, watching out for the vic. I get out a splint and wait for Jansen to help me*

As soon as the man is down on the ground I untie the ropes and pullies and let them down with the tools as soon as the vic is clear. "Davis start first aid, we'll be down soon. Ready to climb Jansen?"

I walk into COPA for my first day back at COPA after my crash. "Hey Guys, I'm back. Did you miss me?" I say laughing, as Burke walks up to me. "Hey Mate. I'm back" I say shaking his hand. "Alright Mitch, No time for talking....." He continues and tells me about an agency issue that need to be taken care of."

'OK, I'm on it.'

*I open the trauma back.*

'Hi, I'm EMT Davis. Will you ba able to get onto this board for me?'
'Sure, I'll try.'
*I help him onto the backboard. He keeps his left leg up. Then I lay him down.*
'Alright, so what hurts?'
'Right here.'
*He points to his upper left leg.*
'OK, I'll fix that up for now. Then we'll get you to the hospital.'
*I grab a splint and attach it to his left leg. He begins to moan as I put it on.*
'This will prevent further damage to your leg for now.'
"Raven, the victim is on the backboard. Should I strap him down? His leg has been splinted, but he's still feeling pain. He's not complaining about anything else."

((We need to wait for ridgeback, he's the guy that you should be talking to, not someone who's on a tower crane ))

"Raven is the crane scene safe for me to get in there and treat the victim or should you guys move him to the ambulance?"

((Haha, yeah Raven, I was gonna talk to him but he wasn't there!))

"That's a negative, the crane is high up, and you aren't SAR trained. Your best bet is to wait for them to bring him to you"

((vic is down already))

'I'm ready Lt. what's left to do?'

*I walk up to the backboard*
'Do you guys need my help to move him to the ambulance?'

I get down and secure the man to the back board and check vitals, everything is normal. "Ridgback, let's get this guy to the hospital. Botfish put do not cross tape around the crane entrance. Davis you can come down."

I put off my harness and put it in the compartment. 'Lets get this guy in the ambo'

'OK, I'm on my way.'

*I climb down the rope and land on the ground. Then I walk over to the squad, take off and put away my harness, and head over to the victim.*

'Alright, is he ready for transport?'

*I walk over to the truck, put away my harness, grab the tape, and walk over to the crane. I start unwarapping it and put around the crane, walk back over to the truck, and put it away.*
'If you need anything i'll be right here!'

'Yeah, we need to get the vic into the ambulance. Ewan and Jansen, take the right side of the backboard, Botfish and I will take the left.'

*Everyone grabs on to the backboard.*

'On 3, 1...2...3!'

*Eveyone picks up the backboard and we carry it into the ambulance.*

We put the vic in the ambo and I walk back to the squad. 'Okay guys, let's get to the station and take our well deserved christmas break haha'

"Thanks" I say. I have my partner get in the front of the ambulance and drive us to the hospital... "ALS 1 at the hospital awaiting to be cleared"
